About Bare Minerals 13-Piece Beauty Surprise

The Box: Bare Minerals 13-Piece Mystery Bundle

The Cost: $55 + Free shipping

The Products: “This big beauty bombshell features 13 pieces, including full-size favorites and bestsellers. Mascara, lipstick, bronzer, blush, finishing powder… this bundle has it all, including two versatile makeup brushes.”

Bare Minerals 13-Piece Beauty Surprise Review

This box comes with an invoice for the items included. When I was looking it over, I realized that I was only sent 10 items! Bare Minerals was aware of this (it may have been intentional), and the other three items were shipped and on their way to me before I even could reach out to ask about it (I got a second shipping email with the remaining three items listed)

Complexion Perfector Brush - Retail Value $26

Dual Finish Blush and Contour Brush - Retail Value $26

Bare Minerals always makes great brushes, so I was happy to get two new ones in this box! I used the complexion perfector brush to apply my foundation, and I was impressed with how this brush made a little foundation go a long way. I think I was accidentally trying to apply too much foundation, and I was getting a few brush marks. I was able to blend the marks out, and overall I am happy with how it made my skin look! The blush and contour brush, on the other hand, isn't for me. I prefer a more chiseled brush when applying bronzer, and this brush couldn't give me the precision I look for.

Statement Matte Liquid Lipstick in Shameless,

Statement Matte Liquid Lipstick in Shameless, Full-Size! - Retail Value $19

Oh, I absolutely love this color! It is so vibrant and perfect for summer, plus it is so comfortable to wear. My only complaint is I wish this had more staying power, but a color this lovely is worth reapplying throughout the day.

Gen Nude Radiant Lipstick in Crave,

Gen Nude Radiant Lipstick in Crave, Full-Size! - Retail Value $20 (found here for $18)

This is a creamy mauve-pink with a demi-shine finish, and this was another comfortable lipstick to wear. This has some good staying power for not being a liquid lipstick, and it should work for a variety of skin tones

Round The Clock Intense Cream-Glide Eyeliner in 4 PM, Full size! – Retail Value $17 (found here for $14)

This is my third bare minerals mystery box I’ve reviewed, and a different Round the Clock eyeliner has come in every box. This is the first time, however, that it came in a box with a pencil sharpener. The sharpener works great with the eyeliner and gave me a great point so I could get up close to my lash line, however, I wish this color looked a little more purple in real life. This is more like a brown with a hint of purple than a true purple eyeliner, which is a bummer considering the color of the box. The formula, however, is great and it applies so smoothly and stays put once on.

Flawless Definition Volumizing Mascara,

Flawless Definition Volumizing Mascara, Full-size! - Retail Value $19 (found here for $15)

This is the first mascara I’ve gotten in one of these boxes that wasn't Lash domination, and I definitely prefer this mascara over it. I like the big fluffy brush and I felt like it really enhanced my natural lashes with length and a bit of volume without being too over the top. This also dried relatively quickly, which was one of my biggest complaints with the lash domination line.

READY Pressed Powder Blush in The Natural High, Full Size! – Retail Value $24 (found here for $20)

This golden petal peach blush starts off sheer and can provide a lovely hint of color. When I applied this using the blush and contour brush it picked up too much color and I wasn't happy with the end result, so I would recommend using a fluffy blush brush for this.

5-In-1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in Rich Camel

5-In-1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in Rich Camel, Full Size! – Retail Value $19 (found here for $15)

I got this eyeshadow in the previous mystery box in a different color, and I really love it! I appreciate the SPF that it has in it and it works great as an eyeshadow base. When I use it, I dab it in the middle of my eyelid and blend it out to cover my entire crease. This made a really lovely combo with the bare skin eyeshadow that was also included in this box.

Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipstick in Icon,

Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipstick in Icon, Full-Size! – Retail Value $19

I haven’t really been a fan of any of the Gen Nude liquid lipsticks I have tried, and Icon didn't change my mind. This shade is too brown for my skin tone and it never fully dries down, which, while comfortable, leaves it prone to smudging wearing off quickly.

Statement Under Over Lip Liner in Kissathon, Full-Size! - Retail Value $16

I think Bare Minerals makes solid lip liners that are creamy, easy to use, and help my lipstick stay exactly where it needs to. I love the bubblegum pink of this color as well, as it'll work well with both nudes and pink lipsticks.

Mineral Veil Finishing Powder in Original,

Mineral Veil Finishing Powder in Original, Full size! - Retail Value $23

I got a full-size mineral veil in the January Mystery Box, but I am not disappointed to see it again. I think mineral veil is one of the best products that Bare Minerals has created, and I use this as a finishing powder every time I apply foundation. I also really appreciate that it has SPF 25 in it because I am not the best at using sunscreen in the mornings, even though I know how important it is.

All Over Face Color in Warmth, small - Buy the full-sized version here for $21

This is another January Mystery Box item, and this time I’m not as happy to see it. It is so hard to get color that is supposed to be used as a bronzer out of this small container, so I haven't even used my last one other than for trying it out for the review. However, it does blend well and is a good fit for my pale skin.

Eye Color in Bare Skin, small (Not available for purchase)

The last item in the box is also another January Mystery Box item. I thought this would just be a standard pale nude eyeshadow based on the name and how it looked in the packaging, but once I applied it I was pleased to see the pearlescent finish that made this eyeshadow a little more unique. This is obviously an old birthday gift from Bare Minerals, and I don't think it would have been too hard to get rid of the birthday packaging to make it less obvious.

Here are the swatches! From top to bottom we have Icon, Shameless, Crave, Kissathon, 4 pm, Rich Camel, Natural High, the all-over face color, and Bare Skin.

Here I am wearing my regular foundation that I applied using the complexion perfecter brush, the all-over face color, the blush, the mascara, the lipliner, and shameless. I also applied Rich Camel to my eyelids before applying Bare Skin all over, and I thought it made a really lovely eyeshadow color. I used 4 pm to line close to my upper and lower lash line for some added definition, and I finished everything off with the mineral veil.

The Verdict: It’s kind of boring to get three items that were featured 2 mystery boxes ago, but I will give Bare Minerals a pass because as a whole the box is pretty good. However, Bare Minerals promised a value of $249, and I calculated a value of $228 for everything not including the eyeshadow or the small face color. I have doubts that the value of those two items equals the extra $21, and that doesn't take into account the sale prices of some of the items either. I am happy to have a new great lipstick color in shameless, a new foundation brush, and a full-size mineral veil, however, so this box is definitely still worth it to me.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this box is sold out.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $55 with free shipping, which means that each of the 13 items in the box has an average cost of $4.23.

I always miss these boxes! Any chance MSA could send out email notifications like you do with Target when these become available?

I really like all of the products in this mystery box and I’m glad I purchased it. I was happy with the one from March as well. I found the same size (.57g/0.02oz) Loose Mineral Eye Color in Bare Skin on their website for $15. We received the small All Over Face Cover in Warmth (.57g/0.02oz). The full size is (.85g/0.03oz) for $21. There isn’t that much of a difference in the size. That would put the value of this box over $249. I like your review and agree that they should have gotten rid of the birthday packaging.

If I still used BE this is a great box. I’ve had some of this stuff and some just went in the trash/donation bin.

The value is definitely there because you aren’t taking into account having 3 items still on their way, so it hit the $249 and then some. I think you forgot about that when you said the box is lower than promised 😊

Hi B!
This review featured all thirteen items from the box. I waited until receiving the second package to do the review. In the box was the blush/contour brush, the mineral veil, and the lip liner.

If I had to choose one cosmetic item that I could not live without it would be the Mineral Veil.

Ditto! It’s the only thing that can really help me with shine. More so than any primer, etc. it’s the best!

Nice review, and I like how you swatch!

I used to get the BM mystery boxes often, till they raised the price. I got tired of the same type eyeliners and lip glosses in every box. That bronzer is really hard to use on light skin, even when I transferred it to a large container. Also, I notice they didn’t send a bag this time; they used to always include a nice makeup or travel bag.
