Whiskerbox April 2018 Review

One thing that’s great about Whiskerbox is the items are usually off the beaten path when it comes to cat subscriptions – you don’t see these anywhere else! Let’s see what was in store this month:

There was an information card in the box listing the items. It also had my cats’ names – Angus!

Please note: Whiskerbox recently changed their information cards a bit. There are some box variations and everything you could possibly receive is listed, though you won’t necessarily get every item on the card. (You will still receive, in the case of the “Meow” version, 4-6 items, including apparel, for a total value of $76 or greater. For what it’s worth, I think the $76 is Canadian; I am pretty sure Whiskerbox is based out of Canada somewhere, although I can’t find an address to confirm this.)

Microfiber Pet Towel from Happy Paws

Microfiber Pet Towel from Happy Paws – Listed Value $8

“Happy Paws” is a little bit too generic of a brand name to find in an online search (that is, I get lots of hits, but none seem to be the *right* Happy Paws). Anyway. This is described as a microfiber pet towel but it is way softer than most of the microfiber towels I have. I rarely give my pets full baths but we do have to go to the vet often and I like to line the pet carrier with a towel and this one is way nicer (and cuter) than the ones I’d been using, so this is my new cat carrier towel.

CatIt Magic Blue Cartridge Set

CatIt Magic Blue Cartridge Set – Retail Value $5.99

It’s that time of year when the air conditioning doesn’t always come on, and neither does the furnace, and sometimes the air in the house doesn’t circulate, and it ends up smelling like litterbox all over the second floor. Well. I have put this little thing together and stuck it next to the worst offender. I’d just completely cleaned the litter boxes before this arrived, so we have yet to see how well it works, but if it is good, I will be ordering a boatload of them. This is an item I didn’t even know existed prior to receiving it in this box.

Patchcat Bathtime Set – Listed Value $10

I think this is a new product line because it is on the Patchwork Pet website (but they don’t do e-commerce) but not yet at any of the usual retailers. At any rate, these are smallish catnip toys with a soft, feltlike outer texture. My cats are usually pretty big fans of these toys, especially Angus. They were sleepy when I took photos but I have already seen these in different places in the bedroom lately so I know they are getting played with.

Personalized Cat Apparel from Cat Couture – Listed Value $45

Whiskerbox seems to have a rotation where you’ll get a collar and bowtie one month, then a hat the next month, then a full costume. This month, it was time for a full costume. I find this one hilarious (as I usually do). Mr. Kitty was in a foul, foul mood when I tried to put this on him so I had to give up after 3 of his legs were in it. I did get it on Monkey, though. We get the XL box because my cats are rather large, though this was a bit small for Monkey. (He is skinny but he is loooooong.)

Of course, you came here for the cat pictures:

Angus likes these toys.

Madison with the little duck toy.

Sneaky says, “this is not food.”

I woke Mr. Kitty up to take this photo.

I got this like ¾ of the way on him and he was SO ANGRY I stopped. I was seriously afraid of getting (badly) bitten.

I was able to get Monkey in the costume. It was a little small for him. I love how his belly fur all sticks out.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $68.99 for the April 2018 Whiskerbox. Take that with a grain of salt as I think some of the prices may be in Canadian dollars (I found US sources when I could). That is more than $20 over the cost of the subscription, which is great. There were two useful items (deodorizer, towel), the toys were a hit, and I got a laugh (and narrowly avoided being bitten) putting the costume on Mr. Kitty and Monkey.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Whiskerbox ships on the 15th of the month so if you sign up before then (assuming they haven’t sold out), you would get May's box as your first box.

I couldn’t help but laugh at the cat photos of them in the costume. I’ve only ever gotten one on my cats in the past. My younger one seems to not notice/care, while my older one becomes paralyzed.

Who knew Burbury made for cats? Please let us know if that deodorizer thing works: if it does, I’ll buy company stock. In mass quantities.

Well Angus knocked it down from where I had it and the sticker doesn’t work anymore. (Then he played with it until it came all the way downstairs to the first floor of the house.) I am going to have to figure out a new way to attach it and then we will see.
