Sweet Sparkle February 2018 Review
Let’s see what's inside this month's box!
Each month, an info card is included with an intro to the theme and the product names, descriptions, and retail values. This month’s theme is “Holographic Magic.”
J. Cat Beauty Pris-metal Chrome Eye Mousse in Holography Types - Retail Value $5.99
Oo...ah! This is so pretty! I love eyeshadow topper because they make every eye-look look better. Alas, this is not actually holographic but it is iridescent with pink and purple shimmer. It is best to use a tiny bit at a time to prevent a chunky finish. Just dab it on the areas of your lid that you want to pop and build in thin layers. I’m impressed by the staying power and intensity for the price. I may need to try some of the other 16 colors.
Be a Bombshell The One Stick in You Glow Girl - Retail Value $9, Listed Value $7
This makeup stick is similar to the J. Cat mousse in that it has a white base that is perfect for making eyes pop. It doesn’t have that same level of shimmer and reflects no other colors. When applied directly from the stick, it is pretty white, but once blended in, it settles down to a shimmery cool sheen. I don’t think it is great for highlighting but it works well for the inner corners of the eye or under the brow bone. This isn’t really a stand out product in this shade, but it comes in 10 other shades that are much more colorful.
Glam21 Lip Sool Touched Magnetic Lipstick in Brown MI - Retail Value $23.50
This website is half English/half Korean so I’m not totally sure what is happening. But, I think this is a great matte lipstick. The packaging is so cool because it is magnetic and I don’t have to worry about the top popping off in my bag. The formula is creamy, but very matte, and has a nude-rose color.
Hikari Cosmetics HD Final Touch Setting Powder - Retail Value $17
What a great staple to include! I’m always searching for a good finishing powder since I typically use BB creams that leave a shiny finish. I like the size of this compact and the included mirror. The powder is velvety and does a great job of mattifying even during touchups.
Terre Mére Large Fluff Contour Brush - Retail Value $32
I’m surprised to see such an expensive brand included this month. This is a synthetic brush that can be used for blending contour or highlighting. The bristles are compact but soft and, bonus, it is pretty with its white handle and gold neck. It actually works really well with blending out the Be a Bombshell One Stick but is perfect for any type of highlighter (cream, powder, liquid).
Swatches of the makeup (left to right): J. Cat Eye Mousse, Glam21 Lipstick, Be a Bombshell Stick. To the far left (left of the eye mousse) I applied a swatch of the finishing powder but it isn’t visible which is exactly the point.
Here I’ve done my version of “Holographic Magic”. I started by setting my BB cream with the Hikari setting powder. The I highlighted my cheekbones with the Be a Bombshell One Stick which didn’t really show up. I patted the J. Cat eye mousse onto my lids over a little medium brown shadow in my crease and swiped on a layer of the Glam21 lipstick. This is a great everyday look for me. It’s easy and fast with little room for mess-ups.
Verdict: Sweet Sparkle’s “Holography Types” box has a value of $87.49 plus free shipping. The values have increased over the past couple of months and it’s been reflected in the product quality in terms of better formulas and brands. I really like the luxuriousness of the brush and the lipstick. All of the items, as always, are full-sized and coordinated to create an entire look. I like that Sweet Sparkle makes a point to provide subscribers with everything needed for the themed look and even give some inspiration on the info card. This month, Terre Mére (a new and impressive brand) was introduced. I tend to see the same brands repeated in this box and am also hopeful that new brands will be introduced.
