Sensory TheraPlay Box April 2018 Review
Each box includes an info card with pictures of each item and specific information, as well as a retail value and what kinds of therapeutic benefits each item can have.
Wikki Stix Activity Set – Retail Value $16.95 (found here for $15.93)
I remember these from when I was a kid! They’re basically wax-covered strings so they’re bendable but hold their shape. They’re great for making little figurines, letters, shapes, borders for using other toys – there’s really just about no limit. It comes with a booklet for ideas, too.
There are two different sizes of wikki stix and lots of colors, as well as some activity sheets and a thick cardboard board to use as a base for playing. These are great for attention, focus, quiet creative play or fidget tool.
Aloha Feet Sensory Tool – Retail Value $19.99
These are sensory tools for feet! Sensory stimulation of feet can help children self-regulate, or provide a sense of relief and comfort.
Although you can cut these to fit shoes (only for a short time – not to be worn for the day), they’re best for use when seated, especially when working on something else for some stimulation and focus.
Mochi Gummy Cat – Retail Value $2.33
This cat is just a little squishy toy that’s fun to feel or fidget with. It’s soft and wiggly and my son thought it was cute:
Mozi Arm Spinner – Retail Value $15.99
This thing is really cool – it slips on your arm and spins and rolls and the design makes a mesmerizing pattern to watch. It lays flat to store. This web page has a great video to see how it works – it’s hard to convey in text/photos!
This works best on bare arms/short sleeves, and the feeling of it spinning up and down your arm is very interesting – I can see why that would be a really cool sensory thing for children on top of providing cool visual input.
You just put your hand through the center and the flexible metal design moves with gravity when you lift your arm and move it around.
PlayVisions Spin Ball – Listed Value $8.95
(I could only find a light-up version of this for purchase online, so I linked to that, but am using the info card’s retail value.)
This ball has three different sets of colored pads to hold, that let you spin the gyroscopic mid-section of the ball with your free hand on three different axes.
It’s pretty lightweight and easy to spin. Also, it’s not too big for my toddler’s hands, too.
Verdict: This box is especially geared towards children on the Autism spectrum or with sensory issues, and also for “kiddos with emotional disturbance (e.g., hyperactivity, impulsivity, excessive anxiety, temper tantrums, poor coping skills).” But, honestly, I feel these things are fun and helpful for probably any child. My 2-year-old son has been responding well to the toys included in these boxes and it’s been fun to see what kinds of things are benefitted or developed while playing with them. The retail value is at $64.21 this month which is above the cost of the box ($39.95 plus $7.55 shipping). I’m happy!
