Mommy Mailbox March 2018 Review
Each box comes with a card detailing the month’s products and brands. The theme this month is “Lucky” and the box was curated by featured blogger, Marta Larissa.
Paddywax Library Candle in William Shakespeare, 2.5 oz - Retail Value $8.00
This candle is pretty small, about 4 inches long, but the tin fits perfectly on a shelf in my kitchen and actually packs a big punch. By just leaving the lid open, I can smell the scent whenever I walk in the room. I think this is a great little candle-the top notes for this scent are eucalyptus, lime and cardamom and the lime really tones down the eucalyptus. It’s a fresh, but not overwhelming scent. I like the Shakespeare quote on top and that it comes in a copper-tin that can easily be reused once the candle is gone.
Sailor Paper Company Luck Art Print, 5x7 - Estimated Value $10.00 (I based this on other prints available from Etsy since there were none for sale in this shop)
While I’m not always a fan of receiving art prints in boxes (I feel like they never get used!), I thought this was such a great print for the theme and the month of March. I like that it’s a small 5X7 which makes it easier to frame and display anywhere. It also has a great Tennessee Williams quote on it and has a handmade look. I think this would make a nice piece for a desktop or dresser.
Love & Toast Handcreme in Paper Flower by Margot Elena, Full Size-1.25 oz - Retail Value $9.00
This lotion is a perfect little size to keep in your purse or car. The creme itself feels very luxurious and I was afraid it would leave a bit of a residue at first, but it absorbed after just a few minutes leaving my hands feeling soft and not greasy at all. The scent is Paper Flower which has notes of water lily, rose, dewberry and ylang-ylang. The lotion has both aloe and shea butter that I can smell along with the floral notes. The scent is strong at first, but fades to a more subtle scent fairly quickly.
The top of this was sealed, which is good to know for swaps. I had to actually get out the scissors to puncture the tube. This made it feel a little fancier than your average plastic tube.
Adams & Brooks Fairtime Salt Water Taffy (approx.12 piece box) - Estimated value:$1.00 (Buy a case of 12 bags for $39.48- each bag is about 1 lb and the box I received was probably about 4 oz.)
I couldn’t find prices for smaller quantities on their site, unfortunately. The packaging for these was really cute- the green stripes and bow made it feel like a treat. The taffy itself is good- it’s just chewy enough and the flavors I’ve tried all seem to be some sort of fruit flavor. While taffy isn’t my go to sweet, it was nice to have something a little different! A serving size is 6 pieces, so there were about 2 servings in this box.
Vincent Longo Lip & Cheek Gel Stain in Baby Boo (Full Size-.25 oz) - Retail Value $24.00
I love that Mommy Mailbox has included a makeup item in the past two boxes. It’s definitely not something that I need, but I personally love to try new makeup so getting one item at a time is fun for me. This lip and cheek stain is gluten, oil and paraben free and water resistant. The color here is Baby Boo which is described as a rose pink. It’s very hard to tell in the pictures, but the tube is actually clear and the color is just that dark inside. The website shows it a bit better! It is very liquidy as you can see from the swatch below.
Also, you can see that immediately after wiping the swatch off, it stained my skin. This washed away easily, but since it was so watery and went on so quickly, I used some on my fingers to apply it to my cheeks. The color is a bit darker than I would normally use, but I love that this is a 2-in-1 so I can easily take it with me if I need both on the go. As for on my lips, again, it’s a bit darker than I normally wear, but I thought it was a very flattering color. I have chapstick on underneath, but it still really emphasizes the uneven color of my chapped lips at the moment (it kind of looks like my lips are bleeding- so ready for warmer weather!). I think that once summer rolls around and my complexion is a bit darker and my lips have a bit more moisture to them, this will be such a nice color to wear. Especially with the staying power it has- it will probably be great for beach days!
Also included this month was a little print with a coupon on the back for 25 square prints of your photos for free from Parabo Press. This is printed on a nice thick cardstock and is a cute 4 inch size. I was able to easily download the app and load up pictures from my phone. It seems that prints are always free, but shipping is not. The coupon took off the $8.00 for economy shipping which did indeed make my 25 prints free. Super easy to use and I’d consider this a little bonus in this box!
The last included insert was this coupon for a new box called My Zodiac Box.
Verdict: I really love that Mommy Mailbox always has some sort of theme to their boxes. I’m not sure everything here really represented the theme as directly as it could have, but I think that was nice. The Art print and the little touches of green in the candle and taffy box were just enough to make it feel “luck” themed. Again, I felt there was a pretty good variety of products- beauty, lifestyle and a sweet treat all just for me. The estimated value of this box is over $50 which doesn’t factor in the Square Prints coupon you could redeem worth $8. I was really satisfied with what I received in this $33.95 box.
