KoKoStyle is a monthly K-Beauty subscription box from KoKoBox. Each box comes with 2-3 full-size products and also includes a variety of samples/goodies to give you a taste of what’s popular in Korea right now. They cover a wide range of different beauty products, including makeup, skincare, haircare and body care.

In addition to KokoStyle and one-time beauty boxes, KoKoBox also offers KoKoBites, a Korean snack box.

Good to Know: This box will occasionally include skin tone specific makeup like BB creams and foundation, so when you subscribe you choose between light beige and dark beige. However, KoKoStyle acknowledges that doesn't work for everyone:

“Korean makeup can be quite limited for darker skin tones. If you use a darker foundation, please send us a message and we will put an alternative item of the same value in your box.”

KoKoStyle April 2018 Review

KoKoBox April 2018 info sheet

This box comes with an info sheet with instructions (in English!) on how to use the products.

KoKoBox April 2018 rice

The Face Shop Real Nature Rice Mask - Retail Value $2.34 (CAD $3)

Since I have started reviewing K-Beauty boxes I have had a few masks from The Face Shop, but the rice mask is a new one for me. I had no idea, but apparently, rice extract is known for its brightening properties. This mask also has grapefruit in it, which I do know is known for brightening, however, this mask also has denatured alcohol on its ingredient list. It had a rather strong fragrance for sheet mask, but my skin did look a touch brighter after wearing. Because of the alcohol and fragrance, I don't know if I would recommend this for sensitive skin, but I would wear it again.

Skin79 Wonder Fix Waterproof Pencil Eyeliner, .5 g - Estimated Value $10

I couldn't find this for sale from a reputable site, so I estimated the value based on what I would reasonably pay for a K-Beauty eyeliner. I had never heard of Skin79 before, but according to Birchbox, it is one of Korea’s best-selling beauty brands. I was happy to get a brown eyeliner rather than the usual black, and the point of this is extremely small— perfect for lining your waterline for some added definition. You can see it swatched below.

Hanskin Bio Origin The Eye Cream, 1 oz - Retail Value $58

Woah! Since the info sheet doesn't give you listed values of the products you receive, I was surprised to find this eye cream is so expensive! This eye cream is very rich, and each time I have used it I have grabbed too much product and ended up using it as an all-over moisturizer. Really, the tiniest of dabs is enough for both eyes (I am still working to figure out how tiny of a dab). On the bright side, that means this eye cream will last a while! I was actually thinking before this box came that I wanted to be better at applying eye cream as a preventative measure to fine lines and dark circles, so getting one in this box worked out perfectly.

MemeBox Pony Blossom Lipstick in Orange Dahlia, 4.5 g - Estimated Value $12

I just tried my very first MemeBox product right before I got this box (has anyone else tried the amazing holographic Sugar Kitten mask?), so I was excited to try this lipstick. I love the holographic label on the lipstick, and this lipstick was extremely hydrating and glossy. I don't know if Orange Dahlia is the best color for my skin tone, but it was a fun spring color to try.

Here it is swatched on my arm.

And here I am wearing the lipstick and the eye pencil on my brows. I found since the tip of the pencil is so fine it was also really good at penciling in my brows. Yay for multi-use products!

KoKoBox April 2018 cotton

AHC Premium Cotton Nourishing Mask, Estimated Value $2

This mask wasn't on the info sheet so it may be a bonus, but last month I also got a second sheet mask that wasn't described on the info sheet, so I am including it as part of the box. I was impressed with how wide this mask was— I have a big face, and this sheet mask reached fully to my jawline and hairline. The cotton was a bit thicker than your regular sheet mask, and it was super hydrating without dripping down my neck.

KoKoBox April 2018 G9 1 KoKoBox April 2018 G9 2 KoKoBox April 2018 G9 3

Bonus! G9Skin White In Whipping Cream, 50 g - Retail Value $27

KoKoStyle will send a free gift to the best photo posted on social media using the hashtag #kokoboxkorea. Full Disclosure: I am the only person on Instagram who posted a photo using that hashtag during the month of March (that wasn't KoKoStyle), so I think I was the winner by default rather than them choosing me because I am a reviewer. That being said, I was excited to try this out. The words “whitening” kind of scares me, but based on this helpful article I believe that when mainstream Korean skincare products claim they are “whitening,” they are actually just talking about improving the overall texture and health of your skin, and potentially helping hyperpigmentation from sun damage. Since the ingredients in this product include Niacinamide (which my skin loves), pineapple extract, and rose water I think a better translation of what this aims to do is to “brighten” your skin. I love the packaging it came in— the milk carton is too cute! The texture of this cream really reminds me of whipped cream, which is kind of amazing. A little of this goes a long way, and I have been dabbing a tiny bit on my cheeks where most of my sun damage is. I haven't seen results yet, but it doesn't irritate my skin and I will continue to use it.

Verdict: Wow! This box stepped it up a notch. I enjoyed last months box but considering one product in the box costs almost double the entire box cost, I am impressed. I am really happy with the eye cream, and while I am not including the bonus in the total value I am really happy with that too. Plus, I was excited to try a new product from MemeBox! I calculated an estimated total value of $85, which is great for a box that costs $29.99.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? No, the next box you will receive is May's.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $29.99 and I estimated a value of $85 (not including my bonus prize). That means you are paying approximately the following for each item:

  • The Face Shop Mask: $1.06
  • Skin79 Pencil: $3.53
  • Hanskin Eye Cream: $20.46
  • Memebox Lipstick: $4.23
  • AHC Mask: $0.71

I am new to Korean skincare products and am definitely tempted by this box! I really would like to get my hands on the G9Skin White In Whipping Cream.

I would have been impressed with just the sheet masks and Hanskin! You really get quite a bit for your money with this one (which is, of course, terrible for my bank account).

I love Skin79.. I use the hot pink B.B. cream.. it’s as full coverage as my Nars Foundation..and it matches me perfectly. It’s hard to find a foundation for someone with yellow tinge. This subscription box is tempting although 2 masks is a lot

I agree about Miss Tutii (but I have loved the Bomi boxes I’ve received). Earlier this year I signed up for a 6-month subscription, because I was always a fan of their regular box (before they cancelled it), but each bag feels like it’s missing something, and while the monetary value may be there, I feel my personal value isn’t as I’m left feeling like I’m not really getting enough for what I’m paying for. I’ll still keep an eye on it through Ragan’s reviews, but I’ll also be watching this one too!

Mishibox is really awesome too! My friend bought me a gift sub. I really like it!

I would reccomend it! I really enjoy my boxes, and it shouldn’t be hard to win the Instagram contest for an extra item 😉
