KitNipBox April 2018 Review

KitNipBox has monthly themes. Around holidays, they are holiday themes, but you can never predict what it’ll be at other times:

The information card included a list of items in the box. They included values and I have used a lot of these below because KitNipBox toys can be hard to find for sale online. This month had a rainy weather theme.

Leap Cloud Wand

Leap Cloud Wand – Listed Value $6

Several of the cats enjoyed this. Even Monkey played with it a little. Most months you’ll get a wand toy with KitNipBox; I’m happy with this since I have several cats who are fans of these types of toys.

All for Paws Umbrella Dangler – Listed Value $7

Not a wand, but still involves dangly things, so I figured this would be a hit. Angus also liked playing with the “wrong” end. Several of the cats enjoyed this, as well.

Purebites Freeze Dried Minnows

Purebites Freeze Dried Minnows – Listed Value $4 (buy 1.09 oz for $5.29 here)

These were weird. In a not-good way. It seems like they just chopped the fish right through into almost jumbo-marshmallow-sized chunks, removed the vertebral column, and freeze-dried. The cats all liked the smell, but Sneaky was the only cat to attempt to eat one. And she did manage it, but not without it getting stuck on her bottom teeth and causing some distress first.

All for Paws Rain Drop Mouse – Listed Value $4

This one has more of a knitted texture. Madison loves knitted toys (I just have to watch him so he doesn’t unravel and eat the yarn). This is a lightweight catnip plush and I’d probably recommend supervising your cat during play with this one until you are sure he or she won’t destroy it.

Best Pet Cloud Mouse

Best PetCloud Mouse – Listed Value $3

KitNipBox is usually pretty good about sending toys with different textures. I’m happy about this since my cats really seem to be interested in different textures. This one was kind of fuzzy/wooly and is also a lightweight catnip plush. I think Angus is the biggest fan at the moment, but of course, that could change at any time.

Safemade Designer Catnip Mouse – Listed Value $5

This is a little bigger than the other mice, but it has a canvas outer fabric that my cats really like (especially Monkey, but also Mr. Kitty a little bit). This is also a catnip plush, of course.

Paws ‘n Purrs Emoji Cat Pillow – Listed Value $6

Until I got Angus, my cats never played with big toys. But Angus doesn’t even seem to acknowledge that there’s a difference between large and small toys. He will play with whatever is nearest. He’s already tossed this around a little bit.

Here are some kitty pictures for you!

Angus liked both ends of the umbrella dangler.

He was also into the tail on this toy.

Here’s Madison with some of the mouse toys. His face didn’t show up much this time. That’s how it goes with black cats, I guess.

Here’s Monkey with some of this month’s toys. He’s been kind of a stick in the mud lately, so I’m surprised I got him to play with the wand toy. (He never wants to leave that little car scratcher. He even sleeps on it sometimes.)

Sneaky is the only cat who would eat these treats. You can see it was difficult for her in the second photo. Took her like 5 minutes to finish one of them.

Sneaky also liked both of the dangly toys.

I let Mr. Kitty sniff the treats. Even if he was allowed to have minnow (he can’t because of his IBD), there’s no way he could eat these with the terrible teeth he has.

I’m not sure whether he could see this or not, but I like to pretend that he could.

I’m pretty sure he has no idea what was going on when I took this photo. Poor guy. At least his eye socket has healed now.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $35 for the April KitNipBox. I’d say that was standard and also note that it is above the month-to-month cost of the box. I definitely appreciated getting two dangly toys and that there were a variety of textures represented among the smaller toys. The treats were not such a big hit, though. My cats are just not into freeze-dried meat, and we seem to get it often. (I know freeze-dried meat is great from a low-processing, no additives perspective, but if the cats won’t eat it, it doesn’t really matter how good for them it is!)
