Kawaii Box March 2018 Review

This box always includes a card detailing the items and also reveals the theme for the month. I think I could’ve deduced the theme even without any paperwork, though - it’s Kawaii Easter!

Heart Sweet Jewelry DIY Gummy

Heart Sweet Jewelry DIY Gummy - Retail Value $3.80 (found here for $2.66)

Every Kawaii Box has candy in it, and I loved that there was a DIY aspect for this month’s treat. There are powders inside of this kit that create gummy candies when combined with water and microwaved in these molds, and it sort of reminded me of the kits that made candy from childhood. Sadly, though, this kit was much harder to complete! The directions were, of course, in Japanese, so I turned to YouTube for further insight on how to do this. While I found a really straightforward video tutorial, my results were not the same! I tried so hard, but I don’t think I’m destined for gummy-making greatness. I found that the powder, when combined with water and microwaved, became solid more quickly than in the video I found, making my candies kind of..lumpy? I also had a hard time with the pink and teal colors to make the “gems” of the rings; the colors clumped together in a jumbled mess of near-black when they combined. Lastly, I had trouble un-molding them, and they came out ragged. Womp, womp!  I don’t think it was the kit’s fault, truthfully; I’m wondering if my microwave was too hot, and I didn’t have any additional tools to help me carefully separate the colors out. It was still fun to try my hand at this, though!

Gudetama Easter Plush Charm

Gudetama Easter Plush Charm - Retail Value $3.90 (found here for $2.73)

The strongest element of the theme of this box was this awesome Gudetama keychain! Perched in a pastel egg and topped with little felt bunny ears, this was such a cheery sight in the box this month.

Sanrio Characters Ruler

Sanrio Characters Ruler - Retail Value $1.90 (found here $1.33)

Two tools in one! I actually really like this ruler, even though it’s a little on the younger side, stylistically. I have some huge metal rulers leftover from my art major days, but I love that this is so small and handy - it can easily but put into pencil case or stowed in a bag. I also love the shapes on the secondary layer of this ruler - they’d be so fun for a quick stencil on a note or card.

Kawaii Pattern Envelope Set

Kawaii Pattern Envelope Set - Retail Value $1.60 (found here for $1.12)

This is a really different type of item, and I love it! My mom is the queen of the art of sending cards; she’s so thoughtful and always remembers every last person’s birthday, anniversary, and milestone. When I was in elementary school, she made her own envelopes from pretty scraps of wallpaper. This kit reminds me a lot of her process; the bright colors and eye-catching pattern to make a pretty enclosure. I can’t wait to send something cool to her in one of these!

Cute Earplugs Kit

Cute Earplugs Kit - Retail Value $1.50

Call me old, but I find that life these days calls for earplugs occasionally, and when they’re this cute, I don’t even feel guilty about using ‘em! I love using earplugs for sleeping when I’m spending a night in a hotel, and I also think these would be great for an airplane ride. They’re so easy to pack, they’re perfect for travel!

Wide Eyed Neko Ball Point Pen

Wide Eyed Neko Ball Point Pen - Retail Value $1.90 (found here for $1.33)

I look forward to the pen inclusion in this box every single month because it never disappoints! This variety is super-cute, and I love that it’s a click pen with an ultra-fine-line. My absolute favorite part of these pens is that they’re usually a professional color, like black or blue, so I can do bills or write checks and still enjoy the process a tiny bit!

Just Eat It Mini Backpack Purse

Just Eat It Mini Backpack Purse - Retail Value $4.50 (found here for $3.15)

There is nothing else to say besides how cute this charm is! I love these little container keychains that you can stash useful items inside, like parking change or lozenges; though for me personally, this sweet backpack might actually corral the lip gloss collection I typically carry in my purse. The light pastel color is also a really nice nod to this month’s theme!

San-X Jinbesan Stickers

San-X Jinbesan Stickers - Retail Value $1.90 (found here for $1.33)

I wasn’t familiar with the character on these stickers, but I am totally in love! I adore the variety here on the sheet; there are so many different kinds of plant and sea life in these tiny stickers, and the rendering style is so sweet. The light touch of gold foil on each of these stickers is the perfect final touch!

Kawaii Animals Eraser -

Kawaii Animals Eraser - Retail Value $1.70 (found here for $0.85)

The last item was also a nice surprise! I love the sweet yellow little alpaca I received; its face is so cute! It’s nice and long so I can tell it’ll last a long time - I don’t use pencils a lot, but I do like to draw, and this eraser actually cuts through the pencil - it doesn’t smear it like some erasers can.

Verdict: Another perfectly adorable box! I really liked the theme this month, and I thought that the items really fit the overall aesthetic of Easter really well. I always love the desk supplies that are included with these, and the earplugs and backpack charm were really nice surprises. This month's value totals $22.70 (less with sale prices), which is a few dollars higher than the $19.90 a month box.
