FitSnack Box March 2018 Review

This box usually contains some ready-to-eat snacks and a few pantry items:

On one side of the information card were details about this month’s items, and the other side included a workout.

Just the Cheese Classic White Cheddar (0.5 oz)

Just the Cheese Classic White Cheddar (0.5 oz) – Buy 16 Bags for $18.24

This is dried cheese. It is baked, not fried, and it is VERY salty. Like, so much so that I could only eat half the bag on my own. (Normally I love salty foods.) If you have ever had those Parmesan crisps at Whole Foods, there are a lot of similarities in terms of flavor and texture.

Go Girl Energy Drink Peach Tea (11.5 fl oz) – Buy 48 Cans for $93.98 (found here for $69.99)

This does have some calories (from added sugar, nonetheless) but I was actually a fan. (Normally I do not care for sugary drinks.) The peach flavor was pleasant and I didn’t even miss carbonation here (this is non-carbonated). This is supposed to help boost energy with yerba mate (which is a source of caffeine), but I didn’t necessarily notice a change. Oh well.

Shout out to FitSnack Box for the packaging of this item (which I really should have photographed, but I didn’t understand what was going on at the time). There was a piece of thick yarn inserted through two holes in the bottom of the box, and the yarn tied this can in place on the bottom. So when the box moved around during shipping, the can couldn’t crush anything smaller or more fragile. This was a really good idea and more food subscriptions should do the same thing.

Crunch Dried Roasted Edamame (0.65 oz)

Crunch Dried Roasted Edamame (0.65 oz) – Buy 48 Bags for $76.32

I’m familiar with this product from other subscription boxes. It is pretty plain with just a hint of salt. The edamame does not get too hard, which is important for a roasted or freeze-dried snack of this nature. There’s not much to say about the flavor as it is not particularly distinctive.

Numa Milk Chews, Original with Peanuts and Dried Cranberries (3.7 oz)

Numa Milk Chews, Original with Peanuts and Dried Cranberries (3.7 oz) – Retail Value $4.99

These are new to the market and you can only pre-order them. This is one thing I like about subscription boxes – the ability to try things before you are even able to buy them. This is also a generously-sized package. These are unusual (and, for what it’s worth, most definitely not vegan as they contain both dairy and egg ingredients). They’re pretty chewy on their own (not in a way that’ll remove dental work) but if you heat them in the microwave for 5 seconds, they soften up.

Sahale Snacks Pomegranate Vanilla Flavored Cashews (1.5 oz)

Sahale Snacks Pomegranate Vanilla Flavored Cashews (1.5 oz) – Buy 18 Bags for $28

These are basically coated cashews with a hint of sweetness. I don’t think the fruit is distinguishable *as* pomegranate, as it is pretty mild. But, this flavor goes well with cashews and my husband and I were both fans of this snack. I know this brand makes a lot of products and I’d be happy to see more of them in future boxes.

Pop Zero (1.3 oz) – Buy 12 Bags for $17.99

The “healthy” thing here is that this is cooked with monounsaturated fats. Mostly, though, what I enjoyed about this was that you could eat a lot of it without getting a ton of calories, and even though 1.3 ounces sounds small, it felt like a lot of popcorn. (I am totally one of those people who fills up on fiber). Flavor-wise, this is pretty similar to a lot of other packaged popcorn products.

Skratch Labs Sport Hydration Drink Mix in Lemon Lime (0.8 oz)

Skratch Labs Sport Hydration Drink Mix in Lemon Lime (0.8 oz) – Retail Value $1.95

This is vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO, and kosher. I have received a very similar product before but I guess it has been reformulated to add more sodium. (This is a good thing if you are sweating a lot.) However, one serving has 19 grams of added sugars and my digestive system will just not tolerate that! If you are looking for a natural alternative to Gatorade, it might be worth looking at, but if you prefer your beverages to be calorie free, this is probably not for you.

Vadham Organic Green Tea (10g) – Retail Value $3

This is an earthy green tea (not a blend) that I found quite appealing (I like bitter and Asian-style teas, though). Unlike a lot of teas, this one is grown in the Himalayas (many others come from China). I’ve had this on my desk for a few days at work and I have almost run out of it. (I guess I am a fan…)

Vadham Detox Green Tea (10g) – Retail Value $2.50

I was not as much of a fan of this one, mostly because I don’t care for the taste of stevia and don’t ever sweeten my tea. This also has some Indian herbs like cardamom and turmeric. This allegedly helps you “detox,” but detox as a concept is pseudoscience. Drink it if you like the flavor, but don’t expect a miracle cure.

Verdict: The March FitSnack Box had 9 items, which makes the average cost per item about $2.87 (figuring a $25.90 cost for the box and shipping). Many of the individual item prices were above this. Plus, the packaging was top-notch and I enjoyed getting to try new snacks before they come to market.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No. Boxes ship out around the 20th of the month so it is you will receive the April box.

Those milk chews look like a baby big hunk!

I had never seen a Big Hunk bar before so I looked it up. I agree, the appearance is similar, but the ingredients are fairly different. It appears there is no dairy in a Big Hunk bar. So I wouldn’t necessarily assume that you will or won’t like one based on the similar appearance to the other!
