Cuddle Crate is a monthly subscription box for pets. You can opt for a dog box (choose your dog size), a cat box, or a small animal box (select gerbil/hamster or rabbit/guinea pig). You can also combine pet types with higher tier subscriptions (i.e., get a combined cat/rabbit box) and opt for a bi-monthly box if monthly is too often for you.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This review is of the Bronze Level Cat subscription for $29.95 a month.

Cuddle Crate March 2018 Review

Cuddle Crate typically sends out a variety of toy types as well as (usually) one package of treats if you have the single pet type option selected. Let’s see what the cats got this month:

They’ve moved away from an information card listing the items in the box and instead are directing you to a URL where you can look up more information about the items.

By the way, though the box looks like it got run over by a car, the contents were fine!

Jackson Galaxy Motor Mouse – Retail Value $7.11 (found here for $4.98)

This is one of those toys where you pull the tail and let go, and the body vibrates. Not a single one of my cats will react to the vibration. I guess some cats are just not interested in that aspect of this toy. (In fairness, all of my cats except Angus are senior kitties.) The motorized parts make the body of this guy kind of heavy.

Petstages Dangle Bug

Petstages Dangle Bug – Retail Value $4.99

This is a small (read: tossable) toy with lots of interesting textures. These are the types of toys my cats like the best. Allegedly this is supposed to be good for nighttime play (read the item description at the link anyway), so I’ve put it near where Angus spends the night, as my other cats tend to do more sleeping than anything else at night.

Petstages Catnip Troll

Petstages Catnip Troll – Retail Value $5.99

Here is another small(ish) catnip plush.  I am happy about that, actually, though. My cats are not so much into playing as they get older and instead just like to explore different textures (by licking or rubbing their chins on stuff or sniffing or whatever). So the hair on this was quite a draw.

Emerald Pet Feline Dental Treats (salmon, 3 oz)

Emerald Pet Feline Dental Treats (salmon, 3 oz) – Retail Value $3.99

These are little fish-shaped crunchy treats. They’re grain free (which is important for cats) and they’re supposed to help clean your cats’ teeth. I don’t know about that, but several of my cats gladly eat these. I get at least one bag of these every month, I swear. They’re good for luring Sneaky into the bathroom before I give her her asthma inhaler, though.

Ourpets “Miles” – Retail Value $8.54

This is a catnip toy with a canvas texture on the outside. (Monkey LOVES canvas toys.) The tongue, which is a satin-like cord, was very interesting to Madison and Angus. (Also this is “Amazon’s Choice” for “snake cat toy.”  I find that funny. What a weirdly specific category.) Anyway, several of my cats like this so I am happy.

Gratuitous cat photo time!

I take a lot of photos of Angus like this. Then he chews the treats into little pieces and drops them all over the carpet (he manages to consume some of them, as well).

Angus was fascinated with the tongue on this toy.

Madison’s head is really big.  This picture makes it look even bigger.

Madison was still licking his lips after the treat so here are a few more kitty tongue photos.

No, Monkey, the treat doesn’t go in your nose.

Monkey rubs his chin on the snake toy.

Those claws? They are digging into my hand.

Sneaky is not amused.

And yet, those sparkly dangler things are pretty cool…

Once again, Mr. Kitty has no idea what is going on. Poor guy.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $30.62 for the March Cuddle Crate for cats subscription box. That is right about the cost of the box. You can get a little better deal by signing up for a longer subscription, of course. But I was happy this month because the toys were all relatively small and had a lot of different textures to them and that is something my cats are really interested in, these days.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the April box. Also, there is some customization involved, especially for the multi-pet boxes, so there may be some variation even among March boxes.

Value Breakdown: At $29.95 for the box, you are paying approximately the following for each item:

  • Motorized mouse $6.95
  • Dangle bug toy $4.88
  • Troll toy $5.86
  • Treats $3.90
  • Snake toy $8.35
