Cat Claws Club April 2018 Review
This subscription is pretty heavy on the toys and is often, but not always, holiday-themed. This is also one of the only cat subscriptions where you get scratch pads regularly. Let’s see what was in the box this month:

Feathered Mouse Toy in Wire Ball – Buy 12 for $28.42 (wholesale price)
I could find these at a lot of wholesale sites but not for sale on their own. This is pretty lightweight and it rolls, which my cats do like quite a bit. They are also fond of the feather tail, of course.
Yarnimal – Buy 4 for $9.95
Easter/spring yarnimals don’t seem to be available on the CatClaws site anymore but they have other ones so I’ve linked to those. Especially since the cat really can’t tell whether it’s a tree or a giraffe or a duck! Anyway, these have catnip-filled bellies and my cats (especially Madison) think they’re awesome.
Yarnimal – Buy 4 for $9.95
I have basically the same things to say about this one as about the one above. I should point out, subscribers received randomly chosen yarnimals and the ones included in various boxes might be different.
Oat Garden Kit – Retail Value $21.95
Oat grass is something Mr. Kitty and Monkey really like so I will be using this. I do like the wooden planter with cat-shaped carved ends. However, I think the folks at Cat Claws need to rethink the packaging here. If you have been thinking some of the items in the box looked dirty, you would be correct. These little white tubs contained potting soil but they were not very well closed, and when the box arrived, one had dumped its contents all over the inside:
So, I contacted customer service and they got back to me by the next morning and sent out another box. Unfortunately, the mail carrier handed it to me like this and said, “It was leaking.”
Oh boy.
As it turns out, both the tubs of potting soil had dumped out in the bottom of that box, and it had gotten wet somewhere along the way.
I didn’t bother contacting them again. I washed off the toys and my cats played with them. I have half a bag of Miracle-Gro potting soil at home so I can still grow the cat grass (the oat seeds were in separate, intact baggies). I did have a little bit of a mess to clean up, though.
For the people at Cat Claws, I’d really suggest taping the tubs of potting soil shut in these kits before sending them out.

For the record, these toys are actually pretty popular with my cats, I just happened to take these pictures when everyone was pretty sleepy.
Verdict: I couldn’t calculate a value for Cat Claws Club this month since the toys aren’t easy to find for sale or aren’t available individually. The cat grass planter sells for $21.95, which leaves a value of $11.95 left over (this box is $33.90 with shipping). I’m estimating the Yarnimals at $2.50 each, which leaves about $6 or $7 for the other toy. That seems a little high (remember the price above for the wire toy is wholesale) but within a few dollars of the cost of the box. This is not always the highest value cat subscription, but it contains items you don’t see elsewhere and that kind of makes up for the value. Customer service is also responsive.

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, Cat Claws Club ships once every other month. Your first box would be June's box if you signed up now. (But, a fair number of the items are available for individual purchase from CatClaws.com.)
Value Breakdown: At $33.90 for the subscription plus shipping, with the oat grass costing $21.95, that leaves $11.95 to be split among the three toys.
