Candy Club April 2018 Review

The first thing you may be wondering is "Why does this month's Candy Club box look so much larger than usual?".As you receive candy each month, you "Sweet Rewards" points that you can eventually use to get bonus candy for free. Well, I decided to cash in my points to receive an extra candy this time so we can all see what it's like! That means I got bumped up to this larger box to accommodate.

Look at all of that pink sizzle!

nutritional cards in vellum envelope

First, you'll receive a vellum envelope with info and nutritional facts on all of your candies this month. It's actually really rare that I receive ALL of the info cards. There are usually some missing. This time I got 3/4 and the 5th one has its own box with the nutritional info on it.

There is a short description of the candy on one side of the card.

Lemonheads nutritional information

And nutritional facts on the other. I personally never read these, but it's nice to have for those who wanna know!

Lemonheads

Ferrara Pan Lemonhead Candies, net weight 10.9 oz.

Here we have the mystery loose candy of the month, which is the one they just toss into the box that I don't have the power to choose. An upside to adding the extra candy with my points this month is that the larger box equals WAY more loose candy. We really hit the jackpot with this one. These were a huge hit at the office and everyone was pretty pumped.

Vidal Sour Strawberries, net weight 10.1 oz.

My first main candy is these sour strawberries which I must say are my least favorite of the entire box. They are pretty sour, but once you get all of that sour powder off of it, it just kinda tastes like plastic to me. Not really feeling these. They're on the harder side of gummies as well.

OMG's Peanut Butter Pretzel Clusters, net weight 7.4 oz.

Whoa, these are soooo good! My favorite Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream flavor is Chubby Hubby which is what made me hone in on these and choose them. Chocolate and peanut butter are a winning combo, but then you put a pretzel in the mix and it skyrockets! The peanut butter is smooth and creamy, the pretzels are salty and crunchy, and the chocolate sweetness the deal. Mmmmm, these are delicious!

Sweet's Lemonade Rings, net weight 8.3 oz.

These are probably my favorite of the month even though above the delicious pb/choco/pretzel numbers! First of all - I love the colors and I love lemonade. These taste just like flavored lemonade and are really soft and chewy! The dark and light pink ones are especially sour too! Ooh, I just love it! So tart and chewy! With the incredible softness does come the fact that these want to stick to your teeth. Be sure you aren't smiling at anyone you want to impress after these.

BONUS: Asher's Chocolate Co Potato Chip Clusters, net weight 6.6 oz.

That brings us to the final candy which is the BONUS candy that I cashed in points for. Since this one was a freebie, it isn't normally included in the price, just so you are aware. I love potato chips, so I thought these clusters would be great to try. In all honesty, they don't really do it for me. Don't get me wrong, they are good, but I think the chip part is just a little too fine perhaps. I can definitely taste them, but I think I now prefer to keep my sweets separate from my potato chips. At least I know now.

Verdict: Candy Club says that they send *up to* 3 lbs of candy in each $29.99 (+8.99 shipping) package, but the kicker is that they don't really send you the candy selection by weight, they send the usual three choices by volume. Due to some detail-oriented readers last month, it made me realize that I should be weighing each candy as it comes in instead of estimating or going by the 16 oz (by volume) containers they use. You'll notice I have a net weight of each candy after its name, which means I got a total of 43.3 oz. of candy OR 2.71 lbs, including my bonus candy (without it, I received 2.29 lbs). You may also want to consider that the larger box yielded more loose candy, further adding more to the usual weight. I really enjoy eating all of this candy each month, but even estimating the 3 lbs in the past, it was on the pricey side. Now that I see that I'm getting even less than that, this makes the value here even less.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You won't get this exact box since you can either choose your candy or have it chosen at random for you!

Coupon - Use this link to get $20 off your first order!

Value Breakdown: At $38.98 for this box on the month-to-month plan, we're paying about $14.38 per pound of candy. Excluding the bonus candy that I don't normally receive, it would be more like $17.02 per pound! Whoa.

$17 a pound for something like Lemonheads is so much no to me, waaay too expensive. The months I got this box, I usually picked things that I wasn’t sure if I’d like, like Chicken & Waffles taffy (soooo good and maple-y!) or Pink Gummi pigs (loved!) and then once I knew I loved them, I could the wildly huge bulk bags (like a kilo [2.2pounds] or 3 pounds or whatever) from Amazon much cheaper. Most candy stays fresh a couple months if you store it in airtight containers (NOT the Candy Club containers) or even ziplock baggies.

Has anyone received an email pertaining to a lawsuit filed against this company? I guess they were suid and settled out of court.

Cristina

I got one too. Do you know what they were actually sued for?

Me too.

I’m curious as to who can eat all that candy each month, perhaps a large family or this can be shared at the office.

I easily eat this much in a month, tho I do share a few pieces of each with a friend. The months I got six candies I shared more and some was saved.

Asher’s also has Chocolate Covered Potato Chips (a regular sized chip covered in chocolate). It is my favorite. I worked at a candy counter and even their prices weren’t this high. But then again, this is delivered to your door.
