VetPet Box (Cat Version) March 2018 Review
Every month, VetPet Box sends toys, supplies, and wellness items. The wellness items this time around relate to the monthly theme of dental health:
Included was an information card with more information about the items in the box.
Ah, cat dental health. Mr. Kitty has notoriously bad teeth and has had several dental cleanings. In the most recent one (late 2012), he had SIX teeth removed. He has needed another one for some time but he is slow to heal due to his IBD and he has been through so much recently with the eye removal that instead, I am pureeing his wet food with water so he can slurp it (the vet does not recommend a dental cleaning for him at this time, due to his other issues). Madison also recently had a dental cleaning but he is doing fine afterwards. I am definitely interested in keeping my other cats’ teeth healthy, though!
Virbac CET Oral Hygiene Kit for Cats – Retail Value $11.21
We received a similar item in VetPet Box for Dogs this month, but this one is designed specifically for smaller kitty mouths (and palates – the toothpaste is seafood flavored). We haven’t done a full brushing on anyone yet, I am just getting Monkey accustomed to having this near his mouth. (He is the only cat who will let me get this near him at this point.)
Cat-It Dental Chew Toy – Retail Value $3.72
This is a small catnip plush. When your cat chews on it, the fabric netting is supposed to brush the teeth. This is a nice size for my cats to play with and Madison did do some chewing the first day I gave this to my kitties.
Cat-It Dental Chew Toy – Retail Value $10.04
This is another small catnip plush from the same product line and my cats had similar reactions to this one and the other one. I think the Amazon price is kind of expensive, but it could change tomorrow (you know how Amazon is). There are plenty of other shapes of this same type of toy at the above link that cost a little less, if you don’t care about the shape.
Petstages Dental Health Chews (2 pack) – Retail Value $6.99 (found here for $2.49)
These are also little catnip plushes (easily tossable by cats) with netted fabric. They are designed to work on the same principle as the Cat-It ones shown above. Angus liked these a little more than the others.
Yeowww! Chubby Catnip Mouse (x2) – Retail Value $8.98 (found here for $8.18, or $4.19 each)
I will never be sad to see Yeowww! toys in a cat subscription box. There is something about them that my cats – even the older ones – just love. Madison had an absolute ball with one of these (see below). Monkey licked one until it was wet. Even Mr. Kitty licked one. These were big hits.
Wellness Kittles in Tuna and Cranberries (2 oz) – Retail Value $3.99 (found here for $2.79)
We’ve gotten these in a ton of cat subscription boxes lately, but in different flavors. The tuna ones are new to my kitties. These are small, crunchy treats and Sneaky, Madison, and Angus all think they’re great.
Feline Greenies Dental Treats, Catnip Flavor (2.5 oz) – Retail Value $2.99 (found here for $2.49)
Monkey is not very food-motivated, but he is catnip motivated, and that won out here. Of course, Sneaky ate them as well. These are crunchy treats, with the idea being that the chewing action helps scrape away tartar. (These do also have chicken meal in them.)
My Little Lion Totally Tuna Treats (2.65 oz) – Retail Value $3.69
These were a bonus in my box this month, with a note that since the theme (dental health) treats contained some chicken, they were including a non-chicken treat since I have a protein sensitive cat. Unfortunately, Mr. Kitty also can’t have tuna (he has inflammatory bowel disease), but My Little Lion treats are my cats’ all-time favorite. Everyone but Mr. Kitty got to enjoy them (even Monkey ate one!).
Clenz-a-Dent Chlorhexidine Rinse from CEVA (8 fl oz) – Retail Value $17.75 (found here for $11.79)
Chlorhexidine is in a lot of oral health products for pets. It is antimicrobial. I would be interested in using this with Mr. Kitty, especially, but I have to investigate the “flavor” ingredient to see if it will be suitable for his IBD. In the meantime, Monkey at least let me put the dispenser part into his mouth (you have to start these things slowly with kitties…).

Mr. Kitty was pretty sleepy during this photo session. But if you look closely at the last picture, you will see that he is totally licking that toy.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $69.36 for March’s VetPet Box. That is a really good value for a $45 cat subscription box. Cats can be a bit fussy when it comes to oral hygiene, but with the number of cats I have, I am pretty sure I will be able to use those items on at least one cat (with Monkey being the most receptive so far). The toys were all appreciated, especially the Yeowww mice, and the treats were all popular as well.
