The Better Beauty Box March 2018 Review

Instead of including a stand-alone info sheet, the information about the products in the box are on a sticker that’s placed on the lid of the box.

Honeybee Gardens Effortless Eye Liner in Smoking Gun

Honeybee Gardens Effortless Eye Liner in Smoking Gun, Full Size! - Retail Value $8.99

This was a creamy charcoal eyeliner with a hint of sparkle. I remember when I was allowed to play with makeup, I would buy the 99 cent eyeliners at the drug store that were hard as rocks. This is a much better alternative to those painful eyeliner days, as it is super soft and easy to apply. While this is still a dark eyeliner shade, it isn't pure black. I know my Mom hated when I wore thick black eyeliner when I was a teenager, and I am sure she would have been much happier with this softer shade.

Sorme Mini Blending Sponges, a pack of 4 sponges

Sorme Mini Blending Sponges, a pack of 4 sponges - Estimated Value $7, Listed Value $13 (buy a similar set here).

Sorme is a makeup brand I have seen when I was shopping at TJMaxx or Marshalls. I couldn't find this brush set from any reliable website, so I looked for a comparable set. I found a four pack of mini sponges from Real Techniques for sale at Ulta for $7.99, so I was surprised to see that the listed value for this set was $13 when the quality isn't as good as Real Techniques. Also, these sponges are marketed as a different sponge for each color corrector you use, and as a young teen, the only color correcting I was doing was using the Clinique Redness Relief skincare line my mom bought me because my rosacea was so bad. To The Better Beauty Box’s credit, however, they suggest using these sponges for covering blemishes instead of color correcting. These do get the job done for blending concealer, and it is good to have multiples when covering acne marks because you don't want the sponge to transfer the bacteria to other parts of your face.

Mother Dirt Face and Body Cleanser, 3.4 fl oz

Mother Dirt Face and Body Cleanser, 3.4 fl oz - Retail Value $15

Mother Dirt is a company that wants to leave the good bacteria on your skin when you wash your face. I can get behind that, because I know if I use a harsh cleanser or wash my face too often my skin gets angry, inflamed, and pimply. This is a gentle cleanser that is preservative free and plant-based. My skin doesn't feel stripped after I use it and I am excited to see how my skin reacts after a few weeks of consistent use. I think this is an awesome product to include in a box marketed to tweens and teens. When the hormones start, the skin goes crazy and it can be hard to not over treat the new blemishes and oily production that shows up.

Deep Steep Body Spray in Grapefruit Bergamot, 4 oz

Deep Steep Body Spray in Grapefruit Bergamot, 4 oz - Retail Value $7.95

This alcohol-free spray is made with aloe and green tea and is designed to hydrate your skin in a refreshing scent. I didn't really notice a moisturizing benefit from this spray, but I enjoyed the light scent that was very refreshing. One thing I especially like about this spray is that it isn't too powerful. I know when I was younger I was guilty of over-applying body sprays, and the people I was around had to suffer. This spray is perfect for smelling nice without assaulting the noses of the people in your life— even if you do a spray or more than you should.

Eco-Dent Dental Samples

Eco-Dent Dental Samples

I’ll be honest, its kind of a buzzkill to be sent dental products in a beauty subscription box. That being said, Eco-Dent focuses on more natural dental hygiene items compared to the mainstream brand, which definitely fits what The Better Beauty Box is trying to promote. I didn't really notice a difference between these samples and my usual toothpaste, but the mouthwash wasn't as intense as my Listerine can be so I appreciate that.

The Verdict: I thought this was another good box from The Better Beauty Box. I really liked the face wash and body spray, and the eyeliner and makeup sponges will be used. One thing I like is that the brands usually featured in this box isn't crazy pricey, so if you really like something and want to purchase it again you're not stuck with a high price tag (I know my mom wasn't going to spend a lot on beauty products when I was younger and still experimenting and learning). I calculated a value of $38.94, which is more than the cost of the box. Considering this is an ingredient conscious box, that is even more impressive. I believe a lot of thought is put into the items included in that box, which is reassuring if you are an adult buying it for a tween or teenager in your life.

The Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? If you sign up today your first box will be the March box.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $24 with free shipping, and I calculated a value of $38.94. That means you’re paying approximately the following for each item:

  • Honeybee Gardens Eyeliner: $5.54
  • Sorme Sponges: $4.31
  • Mother Dirt Cleanser: $9.24
  • Deep Steep Body Spray: $4.90
  • Eco-Dent Samples: N/A

Great review, Jessica. This looks like it might be a good box for me (an adult with easily irritated, sensitive skin).

I would love to see some reviews of both of The Better Beauty Box, together. To see what exactly comes in each box (to know what to expect.)

Or at least a list of the items from the non-makeup box option, if possible.

I’d love to swap for the deep steep body spray!

I remember getting Deep Steep a few years ago, I think in Eco Emi (?) — I remember liking their hand cream. Cool to see them in a box again.
