Sew Sampler Butterfly Kisses January 2018 Review

Here's what you see when you open the box. The theme for January was Butterfly Kisses!

Each box includes a card about the items and a cute sticker.

Flitter Quilt Pattern – Listed Value $9.98

This pattern is exclusive to Sew Sampler and isn't available on the Fat Quarter Shop website. I love butterflies, so I was happy to try out this pattern.

Petite Butterflies & Berries 10" Stacker – Retail Value $19.98 (found here for $17.98)

All the fabrics in this bundle are really cute. The big strawberry pattern was my favorite!

Needle CarryCard by Emma Creation

Needle CarryCard by Emma Creation – Retail Value $8 (found here for $7.48)

I love this needle holder – it's probably my favorite thing in the box. It's perfect for holding larger embroidery needles. I like it because you don't have to pour the needles out and sort through them as you do with most holders. This item comes in several color variations: purple, blue, red and green. Green is my favorite color, so I'm glad I got this one! It stands out in my sewing basket, making needles easy to find.

Bee in my Bonnet Bandages

Bee in my Bonnet Bandages – Retail Value $6.95 (found here for $6.48)

I cut my finger shortly after receiving this box, and I can say that these bandages work perfectly and look adorable. I especially love the sewing machine design because it looks a lot like my own vintage machine.

Cute Cuts 1.5" x 6.5" Rectangular Ruler

Cute Cuts 1.5" x 6.5" Rectangular Ruler – Retail Value $4.90 (found here for $4.38)

The pink shading on this ruler is meant to help you identify 1/2" markings. It also has a textured surface on the back to keep it from slipping.

I like how this ruler grips fabric on the bottom, but I keep misreading it. The whole numbers are indicated in big numbers with a pink circle, but they're on a small line indicator. It's the quarter inch marks that have a longer line. It's easy if you read the numbers, but if you're used to just looking at the line indicators, it's easy to make a mistake.

Berry Sweet Just Pins – Retail Value $12 (found here for $10.98)

These pins are a Fat Quarter Shop exclusive! I'm not sure I'd pay $4 per pin, but they're cute and fit the theme well.

Basket Block #10 Recipe Card

Basket Block #10 Recipe Card – Listed Value $1.48

Each box always includes a monthly sew-along pattern by Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet.

I couldn't way to try out the butterfly quilt pattern! The first step was to cut out the fabric. There were a lot of little pieces this time.

Next, I sewed the pieces for the outer strips.

Then I sewed the small triangles to the larger pieces. It's starting to look like a butterfly!

Here's how it looked before adding the top and bottom pieces.

And here's the finished quilt square! If I were doing it again, I might pick a less busy pattern for the background pieces, but I think it's cute.

Verdict: I calculate a retail value around $63 (less with sale prices in Sew Sampler's shop). This box is always a great value, with a nice variety of sewing items. I thought the theme was really cute, and I especially loved the useful needle holder.

To Wrap Up:

Hi!
I was curious do you get enough material to make enough squares to finish the butterfly quilt project? (not including background material)

missy

If I remember right, I think it had enough of the layer cake to complete half of the included pattern, not including background. And I think it came with a % off coupon if you bought something from their site within the next few weeks, in case you wanted more of the bundle, or whatever – it wasn’t specific as to what to purchase.
