Nomadik "The Mountaineer Collection" February 2018 Review
Every month they include an info card detailing the items and their values. This month’s theme is The Mountaineer Collection.
This month’s challenge asks users to submit their best camping shots for a chance to win an exclusive Nomadik box valued at $60! There is also a list of packing tips for campers just getting into the game.
Baladeo Locker 18-function Multi Tool – Retail Value $42.97 USD (€34.90)
Up first this month is this heavy-duty multi-tool from Baladeo, a French outdoor equipment company. The value above is the current dollar/euro exchange, as Baladeo lists their value in Euros. The thing that sets this tool apart is the small magnetic socket tool with multiple attachments! I have never seen this on a multi-tool before. The sheath has a small pocket in the back to hold all the attachments so you won’t easily lose them all. The locking mechanism on this tool is different than any other I’ve seen before too. I love that the corkscrew comes from the outside of the handle rather than tucked away on the inside, making it much easier to use. It’s a little difficult to pull out though.
Munkees Keychain Compass with Thermometer – Retail Value $4.95 (found here for $3.85)
Next, this month is this handy compass/thermometer combo keychain from Munkees. We’ve seen some Munkees products in past Nomadik boxes, and the quality is pretty nice. This compass/thermometer is about the size of a standard car key fob and seems pretty accurate. Not the highest quality compass I’ve ever used, but having a localized thermometer could be handy while out in the wilderness.
NiteIze Doohickey Clipkey Tool – Retail Value $4.99
This little tool from NiteIze is aptly named - The Doohickey is a handy little tool that clips right on your keychain, a pack strap, etc. There is a flathead screwdriver tip, serrated cutting edge for cutting open all your subscription boxes, and a bottle opener. The serrated edge is pretty sharp - not as sharp as a knife blade but not far off. I popped this doodad, er, Doohickey on my keychain to give you a good sense of scale - it’s basically the same size as a standard key.
Huppybar Apple Cinnamon Raisin Bar – Retail Value $2.29
Oh, yeah. I just recently received this same flavor Huppybar in another subscription and I loved it. It’s soft and chewy and has a wonderful sweet apple cinnamon flavor. It’s got 5g of protein so, not a ton, but it would be great as a trail snack or as part of a camping meal.
Verdict: This month’s Nomadik was solid. Obviously, the multi-tool is the star of the show, and if you attach the keychain to the sheath you’ve got 20 tools in one. They promise “up to $50 worth” of items in each box, and this month’s retail value comes out to $55.20 - about 1.5x the initial cost.
