Ipsy March 2018 Review

This month’s bag features makeup, skincare, and hair products. Let’s see what I got!

The theme for this month is “Create”. The included info card encourages subscribers to get creative by stepping outside of their norm.

Each month, Ipsy subscribers get a makeup bag in addition to their 5 items.

This month, the bag is a black and white canvas print with a hot pink zipper and black satin lining. Two markers are included so you can color your bag. I love all of the different fabulous hair textures!

Benefit BADgal Bang Mascara

Benefit BADgal Bang Mascara – .1 oz Estimated Value $8 (Buy a .3 oz. tube for $24)

This is Benefit’s newest release mascara and I love it. It’s very black and lengthened my lashes without clumps. The bristles are really short and perfect for getting close to the lashline. This formula is very “wet” though, so you have to give it a minute to dry. Liz received this sample too.

Mellow Matte Lipstick in Nude

Mellow Matte Lipstick in Nude - FULL SIZE! Retail Value $13

I may have found the best way for me to wear matte lip color! This creamy dark mauve goes on opaque and smooth. It lasts a long time for traditional lipstick and doesn’t dry my lips out like liquid matte lipsticks do. The packaging is cute and simple too.

Skyn Iceland Pure Cloud Cream - 10ml

Skyn Iceland Pure Cloud Cream - 10ml Estimated Value $10.68 (Buy a 1.7 oz. jar for $55)

This is literally cloud cream! It’s fluffy and super light. It’s specifically formulated for very dry, sensitive skin, and my skin loves it. It leaves a buttery-soft finish and has a light, citrusy scent. I'm impressed with the sample size and I’m already planning on buying more!

Glossier Mint Balm Dotcom - 7ml

Glossier Mint Balm Dotcom - 7ml Estimated Value $5.60 (Buy a 15ml tube for $12)

This all-purpose balm is meant for dry lips, cuticles, or anywhere that needs some serious moisture. It’s petroleum based and feels similar to vaseline except it leaves no greasy feel. The mint is really tingly! The swatch on my wrist (below) was tingling within seconds. I think it is actually too minty for my lips but it will be perfect for my dry cuticles.

Royal & Langnickel Prismatic Ombre Fan Brush - Retail Value $5.99

Omg...I have a thing for pretty brushes and this one is mesmerizing. Besides its looks, the silky-bristled fan is perfect for dusting away shadow from under the eyes. Or, in my case, dusting loose dip powder away while doing my dip manicures.

Swatches of the Mellow lipstick and Balm Dotcom underneath. The balm is completely clear and has a natural finish (not glossy or matte).

Here I have on the Mellow lipstick and Benefit mascara.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $43.27. I think it’s a great way to try new products without much risk. I’m glad to have received a newly released product and a matte lipstick that I love. This is also the first time I have gotten a brush and no black eyeliner. I made sure to update my style quiz last month, so maybe that helped steer their product choices for me in a good direction.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, if you sign up in this month, you’ll get next month’s box as your first box. (Check out our Ipsy Spoilers to see what’s coming up next)

Good to know: Ipsy sends out variations. You may get a completely different bag than me.

Value Breakdown: At $10 for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Mascara - $1.85
  • Lipstick - $3.00
  • Cloud Cream - $2.47
  • Balm - $1.29
  • Fan Brush - $1.38
  • Bag – Not counted toward value

Dang my “also” looks crazy bc my previous comment didn’t post. …..
I’d have been stoked to get this bag- although I have a ton of mascara thx to sub boxes (got one this month, but not that brand), I’ve actually been curious about the one you received; balms aren’t exactly exciting, but they get used and that’s an awesome brand; the brush is beautiful; cloud cream is my jam; and the lipstick is perfect!!! Jello!!!

Awwwwwww mannnnnn!!!- I’d have been STOKED to get this line up! Balms aren’t exciting, but they’re a definitely-will-get-used item and that’s an awesome brand; I normally hate getting mascara in sub boxes (bc I have 4,768,795,332 of them from sub boxes), but I’ve actually been curious about this particular one (and received a different brand in bag, blah); the brush is soooooo pretty; LOVE me some cloud cream and that’s a legit skincare brand; and I’m most jealous of that perfect matte lipstick!!!!

Excellent review!

Absolutely love the cloud cream and the lip balm in coconut. I also received Aurora lip gloss in faerie which is surprisingly amazing.

It seems like ipsy has you pegged. With every review/application I think, “all of that looks perfect on her”. 🙂

I received the same exact variation! I mean even down to the balm flavor. I honestly love everything.

Ohhhh you pretty much got the bag I wish I got! I did get the Glossier balm in Coconut flavor which is the one I wanted though.

One of my samples was that TART EYELINER it’s to small. Reminds me of that Benefit brow pencil that I got in a Birchbox a year ago.

I got the Nude lipstick as well. Mine was lighter; I get a flat pink when I put it on.

Not really happy with this bag at all.

May hang in for April, but I’m reaching the point of no return.

Bag envy!

I got the fan brush, plain balm dot com and the mellow lipstick too! I LOVE the lipstick. It is so pretty and perfect for my skin tone. Super happy with it. I am jealous of the cloud cream. I got a loose eyeshadow I haven’t tried yet. I would have liked the mascara too but I got 2 night masks that I love so it’s okay. Ipsy did well this month!

Also I do dip manicures too but at the salon. I’m not brave enough to try and do it on my own!

P.s. what is a ‘dip manicure??” I have never heard of it and sounds like it could be fun to try.

Redwoods301

Yes, please! Is it the powder dip thing?

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

A dip manicure is powdered color placed over a base coat the layers are then topped with a top coat to set. It last longer than a traditional manicure.

Everything you wear looks absoulety pretty on you!!! I have never seen photos of anything that looks bad.
I still have not got my ipsy bag. I had to fight and fight to get the to reship it. I follow the tracking and it said dhl recieved it in the 6th and that’s it. No movement since the 5th. In the corner it says I need to contact company/person if I have not recieved it yet, and of course ipsy claims that’s “normal” and to wait another week or two.

I’m still upset at the 1,000 mess that “meteorite scrub” (which is a nicer way of saying it, because you added water and it instantly turned into a sticky tar substance that left my skin, face and neck with sores after using many oils and peanut butter trying to get it off my skin. It ruined my shower curtains and soaking and washing didn’t help, but the worst part is my bathtub. While I was trying to get the stain and tar off my skin, globs dried in my bathtub and it was sooooooo bad that when I FINALLY was able to get the brown stain off, the globs took chunks off the clear coat, paint and down to the steel of my bathtub is now showing to the point I need to get it resurfaced or replace it!!! Absolutely insane.

Yikes!! Take lots of photos and email Ipsy and the manufacturer that sells it, and post on influencer too maybe. That sounds like a horrible product!

Kim

What was that scrub, I want to make sure I do not use it!

BLAQ Meteor Scrub

It was a fiasco (putting it mildly) for many people.

Amy L

Wow that’s insane!!

Oh it is. I have never used or seen anything do that in my life!!! I know they always say “test out a spot before trying everywhere” I’ve never had too in 38 years lol….but that was just crazy. It’s going to cost me a lot of money just to repair the damage to the bathtub. But I sure don’t know what that stuff is (I saved what was left in my bag, just in case ipsy wanted it back to test, or check it) then 2 days AFTER I sent photos and my issue, they sent out a mass email about it having issues. Whom would have thought a “body scrub” could do THAT?!

Love the idea of including the Ipsy swap listings link right in the reviews! So handy when we want to swap for items we see in these! But just wanted to let you know the link is wrong. The link above is keyed to the keyword Ipsy, not listings from the Ipsy sub. I believe the link should be https://swap.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/ipsy/box_listings

Curious, what is a dip manicure?

Tiffany, I love that you squeezed little amounts out of the tubes! I’ve never seen that in a review before but it definitely helps. Also, after reading your thoughts on the Skyn Cloud Cream, I’m going to try to swap for some. I love the light, whipped feeling (like First Aid Beauty’s), and a light citrus scent is a scent I can handle!

Reply ButtonReply

Redwoods301

It’s so fluffy, I love the texture and it’s great for warm weather when you might not want anything heavy on your face!

Lisa

I got Glossier in plain kinda boring wish I got a flavor. I also got the fan brush which I love and use it for contour , and the Mellow lipstick but I got the chocolate color. It is not a good look. Very goth kinda a dark chocolate with hint of gray? The nude is really pretty . My other two products were priming face mask and DLS highlighter in prosecco. So except for scents and colors a pretty good month.

You got a great bag! I have been trying to swap for a Glossier balm, no luck so far.
