FittedTot is a monthly shop at home style subscription box containing 5-8 items handpicked for your child by a Tot Stylist. They can accommodate children in sizes 3m – 5T. When you initially sign up, you fill out a short survey indicating your preferences. This helps the stylist curate the box specifically for your little one.

Here is an example of the style choices that I selected for my son’s profile:

For each box, you are charged a $20 styling fee that is applied to your purchase of 2 or more items. If you keep all items, you get a 15% discount applied to the entire box. Boxes arrive monthly, and there is not an ability at this time to alter your frequency.

FittedTot is a small, family-run, veteran-owned business that firmly believes in promoting kindness, encouraging creativity, and helping children become confident through expressive style. I can firmly get behind their “be kind, be confident, be you!” campaign. You can see this around the parameter of the box. Super cute!

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

FittedTot March 2018 Review

FittedTot March 2018 box open showing invoice

This month’s box featured 6 items – 3 pants and 3 shirts. I was pleased to see that there were top and bottom pieces from each brand, and the brands that I received were ones that I expected based on their website.

There was a packing slip on top of the clothing explaining how this process would work and detailing the price that I would be charged for each item that I decided to keep.

Here’s a closer view of the packing slip and instruction sheet included with the box. Unlike other styling services, there were no instructions on how to pair the items or styling recommendations. This is my first box from FittedTot so I’m excited to get started!

Tea "Bear With Me" Graphic Tee – MSRP $29.50. My Cost to Keep $26.55 (or $22.57 if I keep the whole box. I decided to return.)

Size: 3, Materials: 100% cotton

I love the tea brand and think that their clothing is of very good quality. I often see this brand while shopping at Nordstrom, and saw that this shirt is sold out on their website. While this shirt retails at $29.50 full price, it is already clearance on the tea website and available for $15.95 (not including any shipping charges).

While I love the colors in this shirt, and I love the faux double layered look – I think this bear is a bit scary or a 2 year old to wear. At first I thought it was something from Starwars, but to be honest, it’s just not my preference.

Tea "Harris Cuffed" Cargo Pants – MSRP $35.50. My Cost to Keep $35.50 (or $30.18 if I keep the whole box. I decided to keep.)

Size: 3T, Materials: 100% French terry cotton

There are so many things that I love about these pants. First, I love that the bottoms are cuffed – so even though they’re a little long, they’re still wearable and my son won’t trip on them. I think the 2 large side functional pockets are super cute and my son loves having pockets right now. I love the multiple shades of blue including the brighter blue pinstripe in the herringbone design. I know these pants will match everything and he’ll get a ton of wear out of them. These pants have a comfortable elastic waistband enabling self-dressing (also a plus for potty training!)

These pants are sold out online but did also go to clearance for $24.95 recently (not include Tea shipping). Regardless, I love them and will definitely keep them.

Here’s the Tea brand outfit together:

What do you think? Do you like the bear shirt on or do you think it’s scary? My son didn’t seem to mind it!

Now onto Kapital K…

Kapital K "Crimson Heather Hooded T with Stripe Sleeves" – MSRP $32.95. My Cost to Keep $30.00 (or $25.50 if I keep the whole box. I decided to keep.)

Size: 3, Materials: 50% cotton / 50% polyester

Kapital K is a boutique brand that I find to be adorable and well made. This hoody is no exception! I love the double layered look and the material. This shirt is super soft and I love the striped sleeves as a contrast to the red. I think it’s functional yet chic at the same time. The hood is also a welcome feature for me, it’s impossible to keep a hat on my son, so having a hood option for spring will suit us well!

Kapital K "Blue Shadow French Terry Joggers" – Estimated Value $20. My Cost to Keep $27.00 (or $22.95 if I keep the whole box. I decided to keep.)

Size: 3, Materials: 50% cotton / 50% polyester

The item linked is for a baby version of these pants – but the pair I received are identical to those but obviously a bit larger! These pants are a great alternative to jeans and have the flared jogger leg that’s super in right now. Again, I loved the cuffed bottoms and the elastic waistband for toddler comfort. These functional pockets feature zippers, and there is a band of cute diamond stitching detail on the leg. My kiddo loved these pants and I loved him in them!

My only complaint here is that I don’t know that these 2 pieces go together. I wouldn’t typically pair blue joggers with a red/black/white hoody. What do you think? I’d love your comments on if these separates work together!

And finally… Appaman!

Appaman "Dark Plum Peace Long Sleeve T" – MSRP $38.00. My Cost to Keep $37.40 (or $31.79 if I keep the whole box. I decided to keep.)

Size: 3T, Materials: 100% Cotton

Now, this is what I’m talking about! This is a “cool” kid T – and made of the most comfortable cotton! The print is cute, and I love the color scheme for this time of year. I’m not familiar with the Appaman brand, but I might be their new biggest fan after discovering them in this box!

Appaman "Cedar Green York Pants" – MSRP $53.00. My Cost to Keep $52.80 (or $44.88 if I keep the whole box. I decided to return.)

Size: 3T, Materials: 98% cotton / 2% spandex.

These pants are adorable and the features are amazing. The color is a distressed green, and while they’re softer than jeans they have that same kind of sturdy feel. You can dress them up or down – and they do have an adjustable waistband to help with the fit since it has a traditional zipper fly. Again, the bottoms are gathered (to prevent tripping or hemming!!) but also have a 4” zipper should you want to wear them with a boot. The pockets feature snaps, and my favorite is the little monkey appaman label on the back!

I love these pants – but can’t justify paying over $50 to keep them. My son goes through clothing very quickly and is more into play pants and joggers than structured pants like these. If they were a bit less expensive I’d keep them. I just don’t think I’d be able to get $50 worth of wear out of them before he moved to the next size!

Here’s the Appaman outfit together:

Can you tell my son was getting tired of having his photo taken at this point? I may or may not have bribed him with some candy...

The Verdict: A. D. O. R. A. B. L. E. Whoever said that it’s not fun to buy boy clothes has not tried out FittedTot! I love the selection that they sent me – and think that keeping 4 out of 6 items is pretty good for the first styling. These types of services typically get better as they see what you keep – so I’m very much looking forward to my next box and hope that they include some warmer weather wear as we begin to move into spring/summer.

Using my best, educated guess (based on MSRP) I received about $208.95 in clothing (not factoring in current promotions, shipping, or taxes). The cost to keep the whole box (including the 15% discount) is $177.86. This breaks down to around $29.64 per item.

I think that’s a pretty good value and holds true to the expectations set forth on their website (receiving 5-8 items, average price $30, and average box $200).

The Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You will receive your first box within two weeks of sign up. However, since it’s a personal styling service it is unlikely that you will receive the same items that I received in this box.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $20 with free shipping and returns. I am keeping 4 of the 6 items – and paying $129.90 (less the $20 styling fee) – so $109.90 will be charged to my card. This breaks down to $27.48 per item.

Baby Gap has similar pants that are never over $30 and you can always find a mom with a kid a year younger or so and sell things as he outgrows them.
I’m bad for buying way too many clothes for my son, he has two walk-in closets full of clothes and over 25 pairs of jeans that fit now.
I generally just give them to people that can use them now.

That’s awesome that you pay it forward! I try to do so as well. Thanks for reading!

Man, there is no way that I would spend that amount on 3 pairs of clothes for my kids. Not when you could get much more via Carter’s or Target (which also offer more fashionable non-traditional pieces as well) . I believe you could even do better with Gymboree (which offers a more unique feel and higher quality kids clothes).

As far as the bear… I don’t know. My little guy really didn’t start to develop fears until now (3). Also, some of his favorite pieces of clothes have roaring dinosaurs on them. I could see that the fangs could be seen as aggressive but it doesn’t feel scarier than many of the dinosaur, shark etc. shirts out there…

Ah, good point! We do have our share of Dino shirts! Thanks for reading.

Really cute stuff here! But I can’t spend that much per item on kids clothes. They grow out of them and wear them out way to quickly for this price point.

Yes, it’s definitely a “boutique” subscription. I personally think that if they offered a quarterly version it might be a hit – giving you a few special occasion outfits per season!

Super cute clothes! Unfortunately more than I would ever spend on kid clothes; but really cute if you can afford it!

Colette

Yes, definitely “special” outfits!

I think the glasses distract from the potential scare factor of the bear. If your son is OK with the shirt, it’s a keeper. Honestly, l just bought a few shirts and pants, through, at Target for my daughter at $6 each.

Target has certainly stepped up their kid’s clothing game! I buy quite a bit from there as well!
