Ellie March 2018 Review

ellie invoice

Ellie moved to a new system that’s a lot like Fabletics. Each month, you get to choose one of three fitness outfits that you’d like to receive. (You have until the 4th of the month to pick.) You can also skip the month and not be billed. And in the meantime, your membership will grant you access to their catalog of discounted fitness wear and gear.

I didn’t choose in time, so Ellie chose my outfit for me. This is the “In the Zone” look for March 2018.

I’m loving the icy look!

white tank

Balance Collection White Tank, Size Medium

Maybe it’s boring, but I really love me a basic, neutral-colored tank. When I’m packing for the gym or the yoga studio, it’s usually in a rush (usually before or right after work), so I like being able to easily grab a few things from my workout drawer, throw ’em in my bag, and not have to worry that I’m going to show up with a totally mismatched look. This poly/rayon, jersey-like top is a great match for me. Plus the mesh on the shoulders is there to keep it from feeling too plain. The tank is a little bit sheer, but that means it’s also super airy and easy to wear. I foresee this top being in regular rotation this summer!

navy sports bra

Marika Medium Impact Sports Bra in Peacoat, Size Medium

I have so many black sports bras (again, I love my neutrals), but not very many navy ones. Navy feels like enough of a shake-up from my usual black/gray palette while still being easy to match with other pieces. This bra is also just super comfortable. I loooove the back—it’s a perfect mid-point between really intricate, almost romantic lacy details and sporty racerback styles. It feels pretty, but not super bohemian to me. The bra is made of polyester and elastane, features removable cups, and is wicking, so it should keep me from feeling too drippy if I go on a long run in the warm weather.

blue leggings

blue patterned leggings

Marika Power Tek Capris, Size Large

I am digging this pattern! We’re experiencing what folks are calling our “second winter” here in Pittsburgh, and so this marbled, icy pattern feels (sadly) appropriate for the weather. The leggings are polyester and spandex, plus something called Coolmax polyester. The white panels on the sides of each calf are opaque, but the ones swirling up the thighs are a very tight mesh. The waistband is wide, which is really comfortable for me. Also, I’m 5′ 3″, so these leggings look a bit longer than intended on me—they’re actually supposed to be capris, but they fit me like a 7/8 style legging.

Marika Fitness Bands

I’ve been getting super into fitness bands lately. Every now and then I do little YouTube video workouts on my living room floor, and resistance bands are such an easy way to take those moves to the next level. Ellie sent some Bally brand resistance bands in January, but what I like about these fitness bands is that they’re a little wider than the Bally ones. Thinner resistance bands tend to shimmy down my legs (where I use them most), but these broader ones seem like they’re more willing to sit still. There are three levels of resistance here—I like to use different resistances on different muscle groups. I also just like the colors, to be honest, hehe! Marika gear features that jade color a lot, and I juuuust love it!

core discs by bally

Bally Gliding Core Discs

I got these core discs once before, wayyy back in August of last year. I like ’em and don’t mind having a spare set—the last pair are a little scratched up from me using them on a wood floor. The idea with these, if you’ve never used them before, is that you can pop them under your legs or hands to slide more easily over the floor. They’re great for using during mountain-climber-type exercises or curtsy squats, by which I mean they make those exercises sooo much more challenging!

exercise instructions

Not sure where to start? They include a page of exercises!

Verdict: This month’s outfit is super cool. I like that the leggings are bold, but that the other pieces should be easy to mix-and-match with other looks. As usual, I’m really happy with the fit, and the quality of the pieces seems top notch. I’m a little… eh… not bummed but also not wild about the fact that I’m getting repeat gear. That said, I have been subscribed for a while—if you’re a newer subscriber, you probably won’t bump up against these duplicates. I will say that the outfit alone seems worth the price to me. So many nicer leggings start around $40.00, but here, you get leggings, a top, a bra, and gear for around that same cost.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! Shop while it lasts.

Value Breakdown: The five-item box costs $49.95 (with free shipping, as I’m in the continental US). That means the average cost of each item is just $9.99.

  1. Yes, I also skipped and had a package ship. I spoke to Customer Service and it was a bug with Google Chrome users. They have since fixed the bug and Customer Service took care of me really well. Stuff happens, but I was happy with the resolution and fix. Looking forward to my April box!

  2. The quality is not as great as Fabletics but for the price, it is a good deal. I have had them send me items that were not what I picked. I had rotten costumer service. My husband wanted to buy me a membership for Christmas but the company never returned any of his many many messages. I have also emailed the company every day for 10 days and never got a response. You can get the same quality and brand name items at TJ Maxx for a little higher price but you get to pick exactly what you want. I don’t always like the sports bras because I haven’t gotten one that has a lot of support yet. I wish I could pick 2 tops instead of the sports bra.

  3. I had a problem switching also. This month, March, I had no problem. I skipped February- so far so good. They have definitely worked out the alternative choices- buttons now and it works. Love this company. The last sale, I loaded up with cool weather/ cold weather items- all have worked out beautifully. I love, love, love, this company. I only skipped February due to the fact that I had shopped the sale.

  4. As always: great review! Thank you. I loved my Ellie subscription, but I finally cancelled after this delivery. They have had consistent problems with their website, I could never switch to a different collection and while they fixed it every time and were REALLY nice about it, last month I selected “skip month”, got a confirmation that I was skipped and then was charged anyway. Tried to contact CS to ask them why and never got an answer, so I cancelled. The guy on the phone was very nice and helpful and I do love their gear, but I’m out of town a lot and I can’t keep having to deal with glitches like that and packages piling up when I’m not there. Will come back though if you guys tell me that their website problems are history 🙂

    • Wow, did they’re ever give you reason why? I’ve chosen a different collection and skipped months and never had a problem. Very strange.

    • Ugh, that’s SUCH a bummer, Lavinia! Thanks for sharing your experience. Hopefully they get those glitches under control!
