Ellebox February 2018 Review

This is my first Ellebox, and I already appreciate the ADORABLE Clueless-themed Valentine! It is rather appropriate since this movie taught me at a young age the term “surfing the crimson wave.”

Also included in this month’s box is a listing of the items sent this month and their websites as well as a profile paragraph on February’s Inspirational Woman, Rebecca Lee Funk.

20 Organic Tampons - Brand & Retail Value Unavailable

I don’t use tampons, excluding if I am going swimming or if I am out of pads, but I was excited to get an organic option that has no harmful bleaches and dyes for when I actually do use them! Having a far more environment-friendly alternative is great as well!

Midnight Paloma Detox Mask, 2oz jar - Retail Value $22

I am quite the fan of charcoal products like Dark Angel face wash/scrub by LUSH and Origins Charcoal mask, so I was excited to try out more charcoal skin products. Charcoal is amazing at detoxifying and drawing out dirt from the pores. This mask comes as a powder that also has oats and rose in it. I simply mixed a bit of the charcoal mask with water, but they also suggest honey and plain yogurt. I rinsed the mask off after roughly five minutes and my skin was rather soft. This is a fantastic option during your period to calm down your skin; I know my face is a HOT MESS during my time of the month!

Midnight Paloma Trial Trio—Retail Value $30

I am loving this charcoal theme with the Midnight Paloma items! This trial trio set includes a Charcoal + Blood Orange body wash, Charcoal + Aloe Body Lotion, and Charcoal + Grapefruit Fizzy Bath Soak. I was most excited about the bath soak, but I was underwhelmed with the lack of fizz. I like my drinks and baths fizzy, what can I say? I did, however, like the soft citrus scent of this bath soak. The lotion was my favorite of the three because of the lovely scent and how it made my skin feel smooth, but not greasy. The blood orange body wash was delightfully fragrant but didn’t produce much of a lather, sadly.

Truffle Pig Chocolate Bar — Retail Value $2.71 USD ($3.50 CAD)

I love chocolate, but this chocolate was rather bittersweet due to it being 70% Cacao. I am a bigger fan of milk chocolate, but I do like darker chocolates so that I can get my cocoa fix with less sugar. This almond cacao bar is a great treat for when Aunt Flo is about to visit or anytime!

Peach Passion by Tea Sparrow — Retail Value Unavailable

It appears that the Peach Passion tea was a limited edition of sorts because I could not find it on the Tea Sparrow site, sadly! I prefer my drinks ice cold, but I do occasionally like a hot mug of tea. This tea was had a fantastic aroma with bits of peach in it. The tea was perfect for these bitter cold Tundra nights! Tea Sparrow offers a monthly subscription service too.

Verdict: My period isn’t something I am always ecstatic to get, but receiving this comfort box is a nice pick me up for such a draining week each month. Even though I do not use tampons, I was happy to receive them to have for guests and for myself on occasion. A service like this is convenient too because there is no emergency rush to the drug store for pads or tampons with Ellebox. Each month, the box is there like clockwork with ammo to battle period ennui!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but sign up now to receive the next month’s box!

Value Breakdown: With shipping, the box cost $34.99. I couldn’t find precise values for every item, but the prices I could find added up to $54.71! That is $14.72 higher than the box cost and not even accounting for the cost of the Peach Passion tea or tampons! What a deal!

Nicole, I just wanted to say that I love reading your reviews! Thanks for the shout out for “surfing the crimson wave”! That movie never gets old.

I love the idea of this box, but it seems like the tampons that are sent just aren’t the best quality. I really wanted to like the Lola box, for example, but the tampons they sent were about half as effective as the brand I normally used. Not only that, but so many of the others out there only send tampons with plastic applicators. Now that I’ve started using a Diva cup instead, I haven’t looked back! I no longer have to stock up on period supplies like I used to. But it would still be great to find a box with organic non-applicator tampons.

Thanks Katherine for checking out my review!

I have heard so many great things about Diva Cups. I have never tried them since I have a pretty heavy flow, but I have been tempted to. A few other people said they wished there were organic non-applicator tampons in the box, maybe that will be an option at some point. You never know.

I got different items too! I bought the limited edition and now regretting it because items and the retail values of some products keep changing (one item was listed for $80 and now they have it listed at $25) I don’t like it when boxes get shady in product offerings and prices.

Marissa

Does anyone know if one of these boxes offer the tampons without the applicator? Like OB tampons? I will never be able to use an applicator tampon since I started using ob brand in 6th grade (competitive swimmer, not using tampons was not an option).

Marissa, I am not sure, but I can try to investigate for you!

I am also a bigger fan of milk chocolate than dark (though I will eat both).

Since my hysterectomy, I no longer need a box like this, but I still have my ovaries and I no longer have any idea when I am really having a PMS-like hormone surge and when I am just looking for an excuse to eat more chocolate. Based on the frequency of such cravings, I am guessing it is usually the second of those two possibilities.

Chocolate is good all the time. I typically don’t need an excuse. Especially with the Easter candy that is out now. I have been really good about not going too crazy on those Cadburry eggs that have the candy shell. THOSE ARE SO ADDICTIVE!!!!

But I hear you on that. I feel like sometimes you gotta listen to your body either way, man!

Katherine

Wait — you’re supposed to have an excuse before you eat more chocolate? Uh-oh. I think I’ve been doing it wrong.

Katherine, trust and believe I inhaled that chocolate and I had finished my period a few days before. Someone’s getting their period somewhere! Hahahaha.

I am like a Cathy cartoon when it comes to chocolate! Speaking of which… I want some now. Haha
