Beauteque Mask Maven February 2018 Review
The number of sheet masks out there for sale must be incredibly large. Mask Maven almost never sends repeat items, and I discover something new every month:

Entia After Test Vitamin Water Pack Vitamin C – Retail Value $3.99
This is a new brand for me. If you subscribe and have not used this one yet, I’d suggest rolling up or pressing on the unopened package because the serum had settled down to the bottom of mine and didn’t coat the mask evenly. The main ingredient here is, of course, Vitamin C, which is an antioxidant that should help fight free radical damage (of course you should also use a good sunscreen). This also has Centella Asiatica (Gotu Kola), which may help fight acne inflammation and which can promote collagen production.
Annie’s Way Ginkgo + Seaweed Anti-Wrinkle Eye Mask – Retail Value $2.99
This was basically the top half of a sheet mask. It was supersaturated with serum and my skin took a long time to dry out after using this (on the flip side, if you need moisture in the eye area, you should definitely check this out). I actually found this pretty soothing; I had some eye irritation from my contact lens the day before I used this and I guess that made me squint a lot, plus I had a headache, and I felt better after using this. This has ginkgo, which is high in quercetin, an antioxidant (also found in apple peels, red onions, etc.) and seaweed extract, which has a lot of minerals and various other benefits, depending on which kind of seaweed as well as the extraction process.
It’s Skin: The Fresh Mask Rose – Retail Value $1.99
I’m familiar with this brand, although this particular product was new to me. For reference, it did not have a strong scent. This does have rose extract, as well as a handful of other moisturizing ingredients and antioxidant-containing ingredients (e.g., green tea leaf extract). This one didn’t really stand out from the group in any particular way but was a fine mask to use on a random weekday.
Merbliss Wedding Dress Intense Hydration Coating Nude Seal Mask – Retail Value $3.99
I think the name of this one contains more word salad than usual for a K-beauty item. I don’t really get the wedding dress reference but it was a nice mask. Although this did have a lot of the standard sheet mask ingredients (grapefruit seed extract, green tea extract, licorice root extract), it was also pretty moisturizing (it contains sodium hyaluronate, which holds on to water molecules near the surface of the skin) and I like to think I saw a little soothing of roughness from the allantoin. There’d probably be more brightening and/or evening of skin tone over time, with repeated uses.
Candy O’Lady Mellow Cotton Mask – Retail Value $2.25
This is another new brand for me. We received several masks from this same product line. They do not smell like the confections pictured on the packaging, for what it’s worth. One thing that I liked at the outset was the small package. I have often felt that sheet mask envelopes used wasteful amounts of packaging material when the sheet masks will easily fold up into a small size. There is much less packaging waste here. I don’t understand everything from the description (“Superior moisture attachment gives softening while the color make-up”) but this one seems like it is supposed to be moisturizing (has trehalose, aloe extract, and ceramide) as well as soothing lavender. There are also some antioxidants and maybe a little acne-fighting power from tea tree extract, as well.
Candy O’Lady Cake Pop Candy Mask – Retail Value $2.25
I actually found this one to be very similar to the previous one. The ingredients are very similar, as well. This one is supposed to be brightening and it has allantoin (but so does the other one). At any rate, a good sheet mask for daily use.
Candy O’Lady Mystic Potion Mask – Retail Value $2.25
This is our third mask from this brand. I do get cotton candy and cake pops, though I’m not sure what a “mystic potion” is. This one has virtually the same ingredients as the other two. I couldn’t really tell them apart, to be honest. However, that’s not a bad thing since I liked the masks.
Berrisom Face Wrapping Mask (Hyaluronic) – Retail Value $3.50
This one came in two pieces and it had this silver-colored coating on the outside. Whenever I get a coating like that, I know that it will be super moisturizing, because it acts as a moisture barrier, keeping the serum on the skin and preventing evaporation. If you are using this in the morning before makeup, give yourself some extra time for the serum to dry after mask removal. This has niacinamide, which is supposed to help even the skin tone. It also has a black tea ferment, which should have some antioxidants. The main draw here, though, is the high amount of hyaluronic acid, which is a carbohydrate polymer that holds on to a lot of water molecules, so you may see some decrease in the appearance of fine lines.
Nohj Botanical Cotton Sheet Mask (Revitalizing) – Retail Value $2.99
Nohj shows up frequently in mask subscription boxes, but they make quality products. This one is supposed to help care for the pores. I didn’t notice an immediate effect as I do when there is charcoal in a product, but this does have a lot of ingredients I recognize as generally being soothing (goat milk extract, lavender extract, allantoin) as well as acne-fighting ingredients (tomato extract). This one also has snail secretion filtrate, aloe, and sodium hyaluronate, so it is super moisturizing. This is a good time to note that you should not expect K-beauty products to be vegan; they often contain honey, milk extracts, animal fats, snail secretion filtrate, or hyaluronic acid and/or collagen from animal sources.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $26.20 for the February 2018 Beauteque Mask Maven. That’s higher than the month-to-month cost of the subscription by more than usual. All of the masks (and some of the brands) were new to me, and all of them were available in the Beauteque shop (which means these items are current stock as opposed to being closeouts). We’ve had a cold snap again where I live and my skin is so dry and this box came at just the right time; everything was super moisturizing.
