Bare Minerals 12-Piece Beauty Surprise Review

Lash Domination Volume Mascara

Lash Domination Volume Mascara, Full Size! - Retail Value $19

I was excited to see this full-size mascara when the description promised a mini version. This is good at defining each individual lash and lengthening them but doesn't really do much for volume or curling. This is a great mascara for a natural look, but the hard mascara brush can be a bit uncomfortable if you're used to soft brushes.

READY Pressed Powder Blush in The One

READY Pressed Powder Blush in The One, Full Size! - Retail Value $24 (found here for $20)

As I mentioned in my last review, I have always shied away from blushes. It feels weird to slather on concealer to cover my natural redness, only to add pink to my cheeks afterword. That being said, this nude-pink blush works very well for fair skin and can look quite natural. While it works well for me, I don't think this would work well for those with darker complexions— I don't think this would show up well even on those with an olive complexion.

Statement Matte Liquid Lipstick in Juicy

Statement Matte Liquid Lipstick in Juicy, Full Size! - Retail Value $19

This bright poppy-red lipstick is a great spring color. I am not the biggest fan of the liquid lipsticks from bare minerals because they don't last as long as I would prefer for a liquid lip. However, the comfort level of this lipstick is A+, and that's a trade I know many are willing to make!

Round The Clock Intense Cream-Glide Eyeliner in 5 am

Round The Clock Intense Cream-Glide Eyeliner in 5 am (metallic champagne), Full Size! - Retail Value $17

This gorgeous light gold eyeliner is very creamy and easy to apply. It is the perfect shade for my lower lash line to add some pop, and it lasts until I take it off. I’m a fan!

5-In-1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in Barely Nude

5-In-1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in Barely Nude, Full Size! - Estimated Value $19 (value based on a different shade)

This is definitely more of an eyeshadow primer than an eyeshadow for me— when I applied it the color blended seamlessly into my skin. That being said, I am totally fine using it as a primer, and I definitely need to work more SPF into my routine.

READY Bronzer in The Skinny Dip

READY Bronzer in The Skinny Dip, Full Size! - Retail Value $25.00

Considering the way shimmer and glitter has become very popular in today's makeup, I am happy to receive a matte bronzer. This is another great shade for my skin tone, which means this probably is too light for the majority of people. This blended easily and added a soft glow and definition, depending on where I applied it.

Statement Under Over Lip Liner in Genius

Statement Under Over Lip Liner in Genius, Full Size! - Retail Value $16

I can never have too many lipliners, and I am happy to have one that is creamy and soft. Bare Minerals describes this as a Neutral Pink, but in person, it is a lot more fuchsia than neutral. You can see me wear this below!

Statement Luxe-Shine Lipstick in Rebound

Statement Luxe-Shine Lipstick in Rebound, Full Size! - Retail Value $20

This color, on the other hand, is described as a medium neutral pink and that fits the bill perfectly! It is a bit sheer and has buildable coverage, making it a lipstick that would be great for almost anyone.

Small Eyeshadow in Ginger Sugar

Small Eyeshadow in Ginger Sugar (no size listed)

This is a shimmering taupe eyeshadow that is lighter when wearing it compared to how it looks in the jar. This is a really great eyeshadow for day to day wear, as it provides a light definition for your eyes without being too dramatic. This is smaller than their full-sized eyeshadows, even though BareMinerals said two full-sized eyeshadows would be included. Since they also said the mascara would be a mini and we received a full size, I am not unhappy with the swatch. There is more than enough in this little jar to last for a long while.

Soft Focus Face Brush

Soft Focus Face Brush, Full Size! - Retail Value $30

Smokey Smudger Eye Brush

Bare Minerals makes awesome brushes, so I am really happy to get two in this box. The Soft Focus Face Brush alone retails for $30, making it an awesome contribution for a $50 box that contains 12 items. It works well for applying bronzer to the outsides of my face for that soft glow and would also be great for applying light blush as well. I also love the gold tone of the smudger brush, and it is great for creating a thick line with wet eyeshadow or smudging out eyeliner.

Lavender Makeup Bag

I love this rose-gold lavender metallic bag, but boy is it tiny. It fits the eyeshadows, and mascara from this bag, as well as the lipsticks, but not the lipliner or the soft focus face brush. It actually is the perfect size for holding pens and pencils in my backpack, which I think is how I would use it. I need my makeup bags to fit my makeup brushes, Y’all.

Here are the swatches! The bottom three circles are the lipsticks and lipliner, the middle circles are the eyeshadow and eyeliner, and the two circles on the top right are the blush and bronzer.

Here I am wearing almost everything in the box. I used the barely nude as an eyeshadow base before applying ginger sugar all over my lid before lining my lower lash line with the eyeliner. I finished with two coats of the mascara. After I applied my foundation I brushed the blush on the apples of my cheeks and used the bronzer along my hairline, jawline, and my nose. I finished the look with a really thick line of the lipliner, and then I used the lipstick in Rebound to blend the lip liner and the soft pink into the bright look you see. I feel like almost everything in this box was made specifically for me!

The Verdict: I enjoy receiving these mystery boxes from Bare Minerals because they always include an awesome assortment of products. My only complaint is that a lot of the included shades were perfect for my fair skin, meaning they won’t work for other people. I guess that is how mystery boxes go— I am sure the next mystery box I get will have colors too dark for me to properly use. I know sometimes these mystery boxes can be a way for companies to get rid of older stock, but almost all of the included items are available for sale. Not everything in the box had an ascertainable value, but for the ones that did I calculated a value of $189. I’m not sure if a certain value was promised for this box, but I definitely think that the value is there!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, this box is sold out.

Value Breakdown: This box cost me $50 with free shipping, which means that each of the 12 items in the box has an average cost of $4.17.

Glad I passed, after about the last 3 mystery boxes I already have almost all of these products and even the makeup bag. See I do have some restraint with beauty boxes. Lol

Aw, dang, I’m sorry I missed this one! I love that liquid eyeshadow. It works perfectly on a less-is-more makeup day and is so easy to apply & go! The other items were good too, minus the loud lip which wouldn’t work on me.

Jessica, I too have some natural redness & avoided blush like the plague for years. But then I realized that wearing foundation alone left me looking too pale. I started wearing blush & it’s made a nice difference to my look. Btw, I like your circular swatches — very cute & different!

Thank you so much, Mary K! I love doing fun swatches. I am also slowly working on adding blush into my routine, but it definitely is baby steps for me.
