Vellum Box February 2018 Review

This month’s box, Vellum’s first-ever, has the theme of “Bound to Paradise.” The art for this card is absolutely beautiful, and the back breaks down all of the items that are found inside. Everything in this box was neatly tucked into pretty teal tissue paper and looked beautiful with the card resting on top!

Library Bookmark - Estimated Value $3.33 (based on similar product from the same artist)

I love the Vellum Box branding and the suggestion that once the box is received, the shirt inside should be worn to the library. This bookmark fits that sentiment perfectly, and the illustration is super-cute. You guys know me - I’m a sucker for a good bookmark!

Mini Notebook by Vellum Box

Mini Notebook by Vellum Box - Estimated Value $6.00 (based on similar product)

I’m a notebook fiend, but I have to say, this one is a bit small! I like its lightweight portability, but it doesn’t have too many pages. The vintage styling of the cover is nice, though and it could be super-satisfying to log all the books I read this year on actual paper (my goal is 60 books for 2018!).

Glasses Pin

Glasses Pin - Retail Value $9.00

This enamel pin is soooo stinkin’ cute! I’ve worn glasses since I was four (I know, I know), so I related to this right away. I love the cat-eye shape of the glasses, and it’s really well-made. I really like that it has a two-pin backing to keep it snugly in place and prevent it from spinning!

Library Paradise Tee Shirt - Estimated Value $24.99 (based on similar product from the same artist)

The main star of the show in this box is the month’s tee shirt, which was designed by Bookworm Boutique. The quote on the front is from Jorge Luis Borges, who was an Argentine writer famous in the US for his essays, short stories, and poetry. Sounds like the perfect tee to wear to the library to me! One thing I will note is that this tee is very fitted cut, and frankly, I think runs rather small. I would definitely suggest sizing up to get the most enjoyment out of this subscription.

SPOILER ALERT!

Looks like March’s box theme is “Jane’s Kiss” - whether that means Jane Eyre, or Jane Austin, or some other literary Jane, is anyone’s guess! The card is beautifully rendered, though! The artist for this card is by Stella Bookish Art.

Verdict: I think there were some very nice elements to this box, and I was excited to receive their first-ever box! I really liked the enamel pin, and I can see putting the notebook to good use. I’d like to see the overall theme be pushed a little further for future boxes; these items didn’t seem to be too focused on “paradise,” even though the art was solid. Vellum Box does note on their site that the fitted nature of their tee shirts, but I was unable to calculate the sizing in time to ensure a perfect fit for myself, which was kind of a bummer. I am curious to see what future boxes will contain, though!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Sadly, no, you’ll receive the March box! You must order by February 28th to get the March box. From Vellum Box:

Vellum Boxes ship between the 7th and 10th day of the month.

Value Breakdown: This box cost $29.99 + $7.35 shipping, and contains an estimated $43.32 worth of items. Here’s approximately what you’re paying for each item:

  • Bookmark: $2.87
  • Notebook: $5.17
  • Pin: $7.76
  • Tee shirt: $21.54

Is that shirt a crop top or is it folded?

Laine

It was folded, not cropped! Sorry about that. As I say in the review, their tees seemed on the small side, so something to keep in mind!

If anyone has any of the Feb box items I am very interested in swapping! Missed the cutoff date – their instagram says Jane Eyre for March. Nice job with the review!

I’d get this if the price didn’t rise depending on the size. I find that more than annoying.
