ORLY Color Pass Spring 2018 “Pastel City” Review

Here is your friendly reminder that subscription boxes aren't just for humans. Duchess was all over this and didn't want to let me take photos. It combined two of her favorite things: boxes and sizzle.

This box includes an info sheet detailing the bonuses included, and this month the bonuses were stickers, a scrunchie, and cuticle oil. There is a sticker for each polish, which I think is really cute.

The scrunchie was a bonus to set the mood for the 90’s vibe this box was rocking.

Orly Cuticle Care + Cuticle Oil, 1. fl oz - Retail Value 6.95

I appreciated this useful cuticle oil was included because I can get some vicious hangnails and messy cuticles if I don't use a cuticle oil religiously. This absorbed quickly but was a tiny bit greasy, but I enjoyed using it. I also thought the applicator for this made application quick and easy.

Here are all of the polishes in their packaging.  I was so excited to tear into these polishes that I tore it, literally. I didn't realize that you could just slide the box out vs. opening the plastic open. Oops.

ORLY Electric Jungle nail polish

ORLY Electric Jungle - Retail Value $9.50 (found here for $5.95)

This is a frosty metallic green shimmer that definitely leans more blue than green. This color makes me think of mermaids, and now I am thinking of mermaid nail art I could do with this color. Orly has wider brushes compared to the standard nail polish brush, which is something that I like but may not be for everyone. This formula is a bit watery, which combined with the big brush could potentially be a recipe for nail polish all over your cuticles. Just something to look out for! Also, since this metallic is on the frosty end the brush lines are very visible. For that reason, this will be a color I reach for when I want to use it for nail art, but probably not when I just want one color.

Swatched with two coats and no topcoat.

ORLY Lilac City nailpolish

ORLY Lilac City - Retail Value $9.50 (found here for $5.95)

This is a frosty metallic pink/lavender shimmer that reminds me of my childhood. Considering I was born in the 90’s, and that's the vibe Orly was going for, I think that is a success. I would call this the frosty metallic version of millennial pink. Again, since it is a bit frosty it’s going to leave visible brush strokes. This is a unique color to my collection, and I will wear it proudly with my new scrunchie for the ultimate 90’s #vibe.

Swatched with two coats and no top coat.

ORLY Metallic Haze nailpolish

ORLY Metallic Haze - Retail Value $9.50 (found here for $5.95)

Orly calls this a metallic rose gold shimmer, and I think it’s time to address the elephant in the room (that probably no one noticed except me but I digress). None of these metallics in the Pastel City collection have any hint of shimmer. I have literally been holding my fingernails up to my eyeball in different lighting trying to catch any hint of shimmer. It is not there. That being said, I accept and enjoy Metallic Haze for what it is— a metallic rose gold nude. This matches my skin tone really well and it goes well with the cremes including in this collection too.

Swatched with two coats and no top coat.

ORLY Power Pastel nailpolish

ORLY Power Pastel - Retail Value $9.50 (found here for $5.95)

This is a white lavender pastel creme and quite frankly it is the dud of the collection. The consistency was weird to a point where I did three coats and it was still patchy in some places and overly thick in others. This is definitely more white than lavender, and it feels out of place with the other colors in the collection. I think either a true lavender or perhaps a mint green creme would have been a better fit instead of Power Pastel.

Swatched with three coats and no top coat.

ORLY Pink Noise nailpolish

ORLY Pink Noise - Retail Value $9.50 (found here for $5.95)

This is a bubblegum pastel creme. This isn't as bright of a pink that I associate with the word “bubblegum,” and I would say it walks the fine line between an orange/pink and a pink/orange polish. Either way, I like it, and the formula was great.

Swatched with two coats and no top coat.

ORLY Cyber Peach nailpolish

ORLY Cyber Peach - Retail Value $9.50 (found here for $5.95)

This is a pastel blush creme, and it is a really pretty light nude/pink blush color. The formula was smooth, and overall I think the description fits the color really well.

Swatched with two coats and no top coats.

Here is the original nail art I planned on doing, an ombre of Pink Noise and Cyber Peach. They blended beautifully together. But, I felt like I needed to bring a metallic to the nail art party.

So I used Metallic Haze on top using a diamond nail vinyl from WhatsUpNails. Everything was smoothed over with a coat of Seche Vite topcoat, and now I am rocking nails that make me feel like a metallic snake. I am here for it.

The Verdict: I loved my first ORLY Color Pass box! I really appreciate that the polishes sent are full sized, and they included the entire collection. The collection will always be a new release, which really adds value to me. If you break down the annual cost, this box cost $29.75 including free shipping. Considering the nail polishes total $57 (less with discounted prices), I think that makes the overall box a good value. I usually like Orly's colors and formulas, so I am looking forward to the summer Color Pass!

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Katie

Duchess, what’s the holo color you’re wearing before you tried these on?

I went back through all the pics to see where the cat’s nails were painted! Where are you seeing it?

Katie, The reviewers name is Jessica, her cats name is Duchess.
MzBev, She didn’t paint Duchess’ nails, she said her cat enjoyed the Box & the Sizzle (shredded paper.)
Great review Jessica & kudos to you for all the nail color changes! That’s some serious dedication to thorough presentation.👍😊 I have a couple Orly colors, from Sub boxes, and like them. I don’t know if all those colors are for me, but I can see me buying a couple individually. Duchess is a beauty💕 what a great pic!!😍

Those colors are awful. And I have never seen Orly for full price.

The stickers are a really cute touch! Love it!

That Power Pastel reminds me of girls attempting to “paint” their nails with white out pens in middle school – which was early 90s to like the 1995. The same white out pens they were using to write yearbook type of notes on their nylon fabric trapper keepers (I think they have may have been Mead 5 Star) haha

Can you request gels instead of polishes? If so, I’m all in.
