Love With Food Deluxe Box February 2018 "Indulge" Review

Usually, the theme from the information card doesn’t have much to do with the box. This month, there was just the word “Indulge.” So, let’s just move on and talk about the snacks:

Love with Food Deluxe February 2018 Booklet Front

Love with Food Deluxe February 2018 Booklet back

The box came with this information card. I miss the old information cards that said more about the snacks.

There are usually some coupons and/or offers with this subscription. This month various coupons were sent, including a $30 gift card to Hello Fresh. Check out our reviews to learn more about this meal kit!

Nutiva O’Coconut Classic (0.5 oz)

Nutiva O’Coconut Classic (0.5 oz) – Buy an 8-Pack for $6.29 (found here for $5.69)

This is a pretty standard coconut cookie. It does hold together better than some other brands, and I am definitely pleased to see something other than coconut oil from Nutiva (Nutiva coconut oil has been making the rounds in food subscription boxes lately).

Freeyum Honey Apple Oat Bar (0.95 oz)

Freeyum Honey Apple Oat Bar (0.95 oz) – Buy a 20-Pack for $20.99

There are usually a few kid-friendly snacks in Love with Food and I am guessing this bar is one of them this month because it is super small. It kind of reminds me of eating uncooked cookie dough (not that that’s a bad thing).

Erin Baker’s Breakfast Cookie Minis in Double Chocolate (1 oz)

Erin Baker’s Breakfast Cookie Minis in Double Chocolate (1 oz) – Buy a 20-Pack for $14.99

I was confused by this item, but I think what happened is it fell apart in the package, and all the pieces in the wrapper are supposed to be one mini cookie. It is high time someone came up with mini breakfast cookies because the regular-size ones are like 400 calories. Anyway, this was pretty good. Like getting non-melted chocolate!

One Potato Two Potato Naked Sea Salt Kettle Chips (1 oz)

One Potato Two Potato Naked Sea Salt Kettle Chips (1 oz) – Buy 72 Bags for $34.95

This brand shows up a lot in Love with Food, although it’s usually the sweet potato chips we get, so these are nice for a change. They’re standard potato chips (thick, kettle style) but I love potato chips, so no complaints here.

ChocZero 50% Dark Chocolate (10g)

ChocZero 50% Dark Chocolate (10g) – Buy 10 Squares for $4.50

This is zero carb chocolate. (This type of stuff used to exist for diabetics, but now the low carb people are influencing it, I guess.) To get the benefits from dark chocolate, you really need over 70%, but I guess if you are trying to transition to eating darker chocolate, this is a good stepping stone. I didn’t realize this was zero carb until after eating it; my husband and I split this and we really didn’t think there was anything weird or off about it (and we regularly eat Reese’s and Hershey’s stuff…).

Glee Gum Pop

Glee Gum Pop – Buy 10 for $8.99

Here’s another kid-friendly item. The orange lollipop flavor worked with the gum better than expected, but the gum was super soft and stuck to my teeth and not really a very good chewing experience.

Olympos Pitted Greek Olives with Herbs (1.05 oz)

Olympos Pitted Greek Olives with Herbs (1.05 oz) – Buy 10 Bags for $11.99

I have had these from Vegan Cuts before. I love olives so I was happy to see these. (I didn’t take a picture outside the package because these were not packaged in brine so I didn’t want them to go weird or off before I got a chance to eat them.) The herbs were kind of strong and I could honestly do without them, but overall I was a fan.

Organic Ocho Peanut Butter Chocolate Mini (0.44 oz x 2)

Organic Ocho Peanut Butter Chocolate Mini (0.44 oz x 2) – Buy 40 for $16.99

This is another brand familiar to me from Vegan Cuts (though I don’t remember if this specific item is vegan). These are just little peanut butter/chocolate candies and I love that combination so I was happy to see them (I even let my husband have one – guess I was feeling generous).

Isofrut Strawberry Banana (0.53 oz)

Isofrut Strawberry Banana (0.53 oz) – Buy 10 Bags for $22.50

This is freeze-dried fruit. I have had lots of freeze-dried fruit and this is quite standard. I can’t say whether I’ve had this brand before or not because it’s all pretty much the same. I don’t really like to eat this plain because it disintegrates and sticks to my teeth, but it is nice in oatmeal if you don’t have access to fresh fruit in the winter.

Smooze Fruit Ice in Coconut + Banana

Smooze Fruit Ice in Coconut + Banana – Buy 8 for $12.99 (found here for $10.99)

This is the first real repeat item for the month (though there are some familiar brands, of course). You put these in the freezer and then eat them like little ice pops. I love the tropical flavors. I think this banana one was my favorite.

Smooze Fruit Ice in Coconut + Mango

Smooze Fruit Ice in Coconut + Mango – Buy 8 for $12.99 (found here for $10.99)

Here is another Smooze item in a different flavor. This was another good tropical combination.

Napoli’s Oven Baked Pizza Chips in Parmesan and Romano (4.5 oz)

Napoli’s Oven Baked Pizza Chips in Parmesan and Romano (4.5 oz) – Retail Value $2.99

These are supposed to be Parmesan and Romano flavored, but really, it was like, whew, starch with a topping of garlic. (To be fair, they did remind me a lot of pizza.) My husband liked these more than I did. I prefer whole grain products, which tend to be a bit less starchy. I’d suggest dipping these in something (even marinara sauce) but very few of them were intact.

Utz Classic Wheels (1.25 oz x 2)

Utz Classic Wheels (1.25 oz x 2) – Buy 16 oz for $2.99

These are pretzels, not much to say about them except, yay for them not being gluten-free. (This subscription tends to have a lot of unnecessarily gluten-free items, considering Love with Food also offers a GF box for those who want/need it.) Also, you really do get to eat a lot of pretzels for 130 calories, which is nice.

Verdict: There were 15 items in the February 2018 Love with Food Deluxe Box, which works out to about $1.33 per item. That is about average for Love with Food. This was, in general, a much better month in terms of not getting repeats than some recent months. (I am just talking about Love-with-Food-specific repeats. Obviously, I have seen some of these items in other food subscriptions.) Everything was vegetarian again, which was lovely (for me, anyway). I discovered some new items that I liked quite a bit, as well.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the March box. Boxes ship around the 10th of each month.

Value Breakdown: This box cost me $19.95, which means that each of the 15 items in the box has an average cost of $1.33.

I didn’t get Isofrut Strawberry Banana! I’d love that. And no replacement item either. Anyone else?

Oh, I got instant oatmeal instead. 🙂

I also got oatmeal.

Ragan

They need to send the Isofrut and the instant oatmeal together. That’s usually where I put freeze-dried fruit, is in hot cereal.

“The Products: 16-20 snacks that are organic, natural, and/or free from artificial ingredients.”
But only 15 items and some which are duplicates. Is it worth getting the “deluxe” vs the tasting?

I wonder if they are counting the pizza chips as more than one? Usually the packages are single-serve or sample size, but that one was quite large, with at least four servings.
