I loved my Obsidian box at $199, although occasionally there was a high priced item that I’d never have bought. Despite getting some items I already own—a sleeping bag, for instance— they usually are better than my old ones, or make incredible gifts. Certainly a better value and more useful than Robb Vices or some “luxe” box full of plated metal jewelry and overpriced lotions. I’m reluctantly cancelling now because of the price hike. I did get this box and loved it— needed a new camp table, love the rain fly, and the pants are awesome. Had to return pants for exchange (wrong length) and haven’t received my replacement. If I don’t get them back, it wasn’t worth it.

I’m an avid hiker & camper and worked in the outdoor retail industry for five years. I wonder how well these boxes are selling? I buy the gear I need and want because outdoor necessities are so specific to the activity. I can’t even fathom a blind box of outdoor products. It would be so disappointing to receive duplicate or similar items to what I already own. You could but a YETI (small) cooler for the price of this box.

We’ve done this box in the past for three quarters (before the recent price increase) and it is disappointing to receive duplicate products or high-dollar items in a color that you don’t like. If the overall value for the box was higher it would be worth it, but when you break down what you spend versus what you need/want the value wasn’t there for us. I like the idea of it, but not the reality of it…

Does anybody find this worth the $250 (or even the $200 after the coupon)? It seems like you would be better off purchasing the items you want individually.

I think this box used to be much cheaper like 199 or something and it was a much better deal then. Not an amazing deal but at least there was some savings

I agree, I looked up each of the items and it wouldn’t be much more than the cost of the box to buy them all (mostly available on Amazon).

Does anyone know if you can specify the size of the pants if you ordered the box? I clicked through to the check out process and didn’t see a place to input a size.
