Bullymake Box is a monthly subscription box for power chewers. You all have heard about (and seen) some of Nyx’s exploits with plush toys from dog subscription boxes so when I heard about this one, I had to sign up immediately. Nyx is definitely a power chewer! You pick your dog’s weight in 10-pound increments so this is a box for an 80-pound dog. (Nyx weighs about 87 right now)

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This review is of the Toys-only, 80-pound, $39 a month, box.

About Bullymake Box

The Subscription Box: Bullymake Box

The Cost: $39 a month (save with 3, 6, and 12-month subscriptions)

The Products: Toys and treats specifically tailored for heavy chewing dogs (no plushes). You can also choose a “toys only” box. Because of Nyx’s dietary issues, I went with the “toys only” box. You can also enter specific allergy information in a box on the checkout screen.

Ships to: USA (free!), Canada for $8, and Internationally for an additional cost

Good to know: if you want a toys-only box, you must select that during sign-up. Otherwise, you will get the default box, which does include some treats.

Bullymake Box February 2018 Review

There was a Valentine’s Day theme to the toys for this month:

Not all boxes are the same due to the fact that you can choose your dog’s size in 10-pound increments, choose a toys-only box, etc., but there is usually an information card highlighting an item or two from the box.

There was also a card announcing a contest where you could win a free year of this subscription.

Beef Snack and Chew by Spunky Pup

Beef Snack and Chew by Spunky Pup – Retail Value $16

This is a nylon chew with a flavored component. It is a good size for Nyx and one of her favorite types of toys. Also, Spunky Pup items we’ve received in the past have been good quality. I am letting Nyx have this for just a minute or two at a time right now, as this is a new type of flavoring for her and I want to make sure it won’t aggravate her IBD.

XOXO (Nylon Heart) by Bullymake – Retail Value $18

Awhile back, Bullymake Box started making their own toys (usually nylon chews). This month, we got this heart-shaped one. Nyx thought this was pretty great and was sad when I took it away. It is still in good enough condition to be used at least a few more times, too! (See pictures of Nyx with it, below.)

Heartthrob by Bullymake

Heartthrob by Bullymake – Retail Value $17

Here is the second Bullymake-branded item for the month. This has holes in the top and bottom so you could put a treat or a bit of peanut butter or something on the inside (actually, peanut butter would work pretty well between the grooves on the outside, as well). I jammed a piece of sweet potato in here (dehydrated) and Nyx had a good time working it out.

Kiss Me Lips by American Dog

Kiss Me Lips by American Dog – Retail Value $14

We receive toys from this brand occasionally in Bullymake Box. It has a tough outer coating (some kind of canvas?) and some crinkle paper inside. I don’t always find these to be the sturdiest toys, but it has worked OK for us so far! Nyx hasn’t damaged it too badly yet, either.

I took pictures with the heart toy this month. Nyx lives for these nylon chews from Bullymake Box. They’re her favorite type of toy and she can usually play with each one a handful of times before I have to take it away.

Verdict: I calculated a value of $65 for the February 2018 Bullymake Box.  That’s a good value for a dog subscription that costs about $40. The items were of varying durability (most were pretty tough) but all were size-appropriate. The nylon chew was a particular favorite of Nyx’s.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first shipment would be March's. You can buy some of the exclusive toys at the Bullymake Shop if something catches your eye. Also, please note that this is the TOYS ONLY version of the box and it is selected for an 80-pound dog. There are some box variations here so you may not always receive the same box as Nyx gets, even if you choose the same profile values when you sign up.

Coupon – Use code Bullymake5 to save $5 off your first box!

Value Breakdown: At $39 for the box, you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Spunky Pup chew: $9.60
  • Nylon heart: $10.80
  • Rubber heart: $10.20
  • Lips toy: $8.40

BullyMake practices an incredibly deceptive ‘subscription’ business model and offers poor customer service. I signed up for a three-month subscription. I either did not notice or did not recall that they indicated they would auto renew, however I also would have thought I would receive some sort of renewal reminder or a question on if I would like to confirm I would renew. Instead, a charge went through on my credit card and I received a notice saying I was renewed. I immediately contacted BullyMake to request that my renewal not be processed and was told that a box had already shipped (this was literally within hours of the renewal being processed on their end) so they could not cancel the renewal. This sort of practice is bad news as it is clear their intent is to force customers to pay for something they do not want but have either forgotten they need to proactively take action on or had not even realized they needed to take action to cancel. They wait to tell you until it is too late to do anything about the ‘auto-renewal’. In fact, when I made my request to not process the renewal, they defended their action by quoting the places they have their subscription information listed, as though they assume I am regularly cruising their website to be sure I know all their policies – even three months after making the original purchase. I was further told that my only option was to receive the box and send it back to them – something not possible as my original purchase had been a gift and it would be wildly inappropriate to ask the recipient of the original three-month gift to do as they suggested (basically, I’d be telling the person to return what they would have every reason to believe was part of the original gift). BullyMake gives a bad name to subscription services and practices a bullying business practice that I thought most companies knew better than to try in today’s day and age of online reviews and forums. I cannot advise highly enough to NOT give them your business. One last note I’ll add is that I rarely leave reviews – positive or negative, however my experience with BullyMake was sufficiently negative that I feel compelled to help others by offering my experience.

Thank you so much for the info! This happened to me with another online purchase & it was extremely difficult to get them to stop charging my credit card. I will NEVER order from a company that treats customers like this. Too bad, because these toys sound like exactly what my dog needs.

March will be my last box. I took the three month subscription because I wanted to give them a chance. The pictures on their website, and even on this post, show interesting variety in toys (like the lips! My dog would have loved those!) My dog is a golden doodle who destroys every toy, except for the ones in the bullymake box. She has 0 interest in any of them. The boxes I received so far have been a really hard nylon toy in some shape, that can’t be used for fetch, and is not interesting to her. And a massive rubber toy in the shape of something that she also is not interested in. I also specified she was allergic to poultry and 3 of the 4 bags of treats have been poultry based. When I contacted customer service about their satisfaction guarantee they replaced one of the hard nylon toys with one of the massive rubber toys, and did not replace any of the treats. I feel like I just got fleeced. I do not recommend this subscription box at all.

I just received this same box…our last box with them. When I signed up, I stated that we had a small dog, King Charles Cavalier, 15 lbs. With that being said, I have had to give away just about every toy we received as they were for larger dogs. The ones we could keep, she usually destroyed within the first 24 hours. I was very disappointed, but for those with big dogs and light chasers, it may be good

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!! I only wanted 1 box…I ordered it, received it….was NOT IMPRESSED. I contacted the company to cancel. They offered different shipment options. I told them no, I was not interested. Just received shipping email about my next box. Company CLAIMS that I never cancelled. YOU CANNOT REMOVE YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION once it is in their system….I called my bank and cancelled the card.

Bottom line: the box is NOT WORTH $39!! Trying to get away from this company is a pain!

Thanks, Ragan, for the review! Nyx is quite handsome! I do Bark Box for our mixed breed rescue, but she can be a bit destructive with the plush toys and isn’t always a fan of just a hard rubber toy. I’ll need to keep watching these reviews since there is a mix of fabric and rubber toys. It’s an investment, but better than my pooch eating a couch or my cat! 😉
