My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

This review is for The Nighttime Beauty Kit, which is $35 plus $5 shipping. This box is still available for purchase!

Birchbox The Nighttime Beauty Kit Review

Just like in a regular monthly subscription, Birchbox includes an informational sheet listing the products included and the price of their full-sized counterparts.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II,

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II, 0.24 oz - Estimated Value $15.60 (buy a 1 oz. bottle for $65)

I consider this a cult classic in the skincare world. This serum is formulated to combat fine lines, dryness, dullness, and dark spots. Basically, if you have skin, this serum can probably help you. I started using this product at night, and I really feel like it helped my skin look brighter the next day! My only complaint is that you are only supposed to use two drops at a time when applying, and it is really hard to only get two drops with the way the product is dispensed in this sample. I think a dropper would help me make this product last a lot longer.

HUM Nutrition Beauty zzZz™ Supplements, 10 Capsules

HUM Nutrition Beauty zzZz™ Supplements, 10 Capsules - Estimated Value $3.33 (Buy a 30 capsule bottle for $10)

My sleep schedule can be a bit weird. I always aim for 8-10 hours a night, and sometimes I have no trouble falling asleep and sometimes I cannot fall asleep, or if I do I wake up throughout the night, or I wake up around 4 am and am unable to fall back asleep. The really fun part is I never know what kind of night it is going to be until I try to fall asleep. If I took an educated guess I would say it has to do with the stresses in my life, but I am a full-time law student with a part-time job. There is always going to be stress in my life. The point of my longwinded story is to say that I have an unpredictable sleep schedule. Every night that I have taken this supplement, I have slept well and woken up refreshed. We may never know if it was the combination of melatonin, b6, and calcium, or if I was going to sleep well those nights regardless. However, I am definitely considering buying the full size in the hopes of this good sleep train going (especially with finals only being a few months away!).

GLAMGLOW® SUPERMUD™ Clearing Treatment, 0.5 oz - Retail Value $24

Make no mistake— I love this stuff. I feel like the skincare gods formulated this mask specifically for my skin. My nose can get so incredibly oily that applying setting powder after my foundation can wipe away the foundation off my nose. I don't understand it, the helpful employees at Sephora don’t understand it— it is one of life's great mysteries. That being said, this mask definitely helps to get the oil control on my nose under control. Plus, as it dries you can see the “dots of vacuum extraction.”

Here is a selfie of the mask right after it was applied. However, the internet does not need to see what this mask looked like on me when it dried. If you're really curious, the Influenster reviews will show you just how powerful that vacuum extraction can be (Trypophobias, beware!).

FOREO LUNA™ play in Sunflower Yellow,

FOREO LUNA™ play in Sunflower Yellow, Full size! Retail Value $39

Oh, Foreo. I have been a fan of yours since Allure included you in the May 2016 box. The play is the nonrechargable, smaller sibling in the Foreo Luna line. It lasts for 100 uses, and then after that, you can toss it or use it to help clean your makeup brushes. You can also check out the Foreo website for tips for recycling your Play device. Usage wise, this helps my skin feel clean. My skin feels extra refreshed after using it, and I feel like it helps prep my skin for all the serums and lotions and potions that follow in my nighttime routine. Plus, the retail value of this little guy is more than the entire cost of the box. Win!

thisworks® deep sleep™ pillow spray,

thisworks® deep sleep™ pillow spray, 0.17  oz - Estimated Value $1.97 (Buy the 2.5 oz version for $29)

Do you remember my Best Bath Ever review, where I essentially threw a fit over how tiny the pillow spray sample was? Even if you don’t, I do, because I am still salty over it. Luckily, this sample is a much more appropriate size. The scent is a mixture of lavender, chamomile, and patchouli, and if you need help falling asleep at night and like scented pillows, I definitely recommend this (I also have a friend who can’t sleep with anything scented on her sheets otherwise it’s hard for her to breathe at night, so if you are like her definitely do not use this product).

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Nightly Re.Pair Mask, 1 packet - Estimated Value $1.60 (Buy a 30 packet set for $48)

While foil samples are never your choice in a subscription box, I LOVED this sample. Each packet is 0.1 oz, so that was enough for two nights of use for me. It was so luxurious and rich, while also being very soothing over my recent breakouts (which makes sense, because this overnight treatment was made to alleviate any skin irritation). My acne is really fun, and I can just be laying in bed with throbbing pimples hanging out on my face. After using this mask my face felt soothed for the rest of the night, and when I woke up my pimples weren't as angry and inflamed. This is another item that I am seriously contemplating buying in the full size.

Living proof.® Perfect hair Day™ (PhD) Night Cap Overnight Perfector, 1.0 oz

Living proof.® Perfect hair Day™ (PhD) Night Cap Overnight Perfector, 1.0 oz - Estimated Value $7.25 (buy a 4 oz. tube for $29)

I have gotten this in other subscription boxes before and never touched it. I never actually understood what it was, how to use it, and how it was supposed to help my crazy curly (and temperamental) hair. When I was checking out Sephora reviews, one person said this was their new favorite “leave in conditioner.” *lightbulb goes on above my head.* I usually use pure coconut oil as my leave-in conditioner, so after I got this kit I left the coconut oil on my bathroom counter and reached for this instead. After sleeping with this in, when I took my hair out of its bun my curls fell down in soft, silky ringlets. I enjoyed it, but to be honest that is how coconut oil usually leaves my hair. I will probably stick with coconut oil for my hair, but I can see why so many people love this.

Paula’s Choice RESIST Barrier Repair Moisturizer with Retinol, 0.33 oz

Paula’s Choice RESIST Barrier Repair Moisturizer with Retinol, 0.33 oz - Estimated Value $6.41 (buy a 1.7 oz. bottle for $33)

This is a wrinkle-fighting moisturizer designed to deliver much needed hydration to skin. With an ingredient list that included Retinol, I was automatically impressed. This was another rich and luxurious moisturizer that made my skin feel so soft. After using it, I definitely noticed an increase in my skins hydration levels— so much so that it was too much for my oily skin. I passed this off to a friend who doesn't have super oily skin (see note above regarding foundation wiping off my nose with the wipe of a brush), and if you have dry skin and are looking for a moisturizer, I definitely recommend this one.

The Verdict: Birchbox promised a $95 value for this kit, and by my calculations, the value comes in a few cents short of an even 100. Not only is that an awesome value for a $35 kit (plus $5 shipping), there is an awesome mix of products in here that really help you enhance your nighttime routine. The FOREO was a clear winner for me, and I also loved trying the Cicapair, HUM beauty, and GLAMGLOW. Even the items that weren't the best fit for me are items that would appeal to a lot of people, so I am not upset that the entire box wasn't a perfect match for me.

The Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if I sign up today? Yes, as of publication, this box is still available!

Luna

This looks like a great kit! I’m not sure how I missed it. I love that Estee Lauder night serum, and that Living Proof leave-in (I’m currently working my way through all of the samples of this I’ve accumulated, and they last a really long time… well, since I only use it once/week. Everything else looks great too. I’m definitely going to have to pick this one up. 🙂

Actually, I see too many kits I overlooked when they came out that I want right now, so I think I’ll wait until they have another ACE sale, and cross my fingers that they’re still available.

I’ll cross my fingers for you, Luna! It’s a great kit, but I’m sure it would be even better if you could get it for a discount.

Rosemary

I love those FOREO LUNA™ plays. They last for ages and do a great job. FYI: I have tried many Cleansing Brushes, and this is my favorite at the moment.

I love Foreo too, Rosemary! I love that it’s made of silicone that’s easy to clean. When I have bad breakouts I have to be extra conscientious of cleaning my face tools to prevent the bacteria from spreading. Easy to do with the play!

Where’s the photo and size of the mud glow product? It’s not pictured.

Thanks for pointing that out, Nich. It should be fixed now.
