Avid Dresser January 2018 - Box

Avid Dresser is a monthly dress styling subscription. Subscribers take a style quiz and work with their stylist to find dresses that work for their lifestyle. There are 2 different plans: Basic (1 dress per month) and Signature (2 dresses per month). They have also just introduced a Curvy Girls plan (1 dress per month). All the dresses you receive are yours to keep!

Avid Dresser January 2018 - Box Open

For the sign-up process, I took a style quiz answering questions about my size, color and style preferences, for what occasions I need dresses, etc. I also had the option to choose to talk to a stylist directly or not. I would recommend choosing yes because it was super helpful!

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the subscription review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

This is a review of the Signature subscription box, which is $49.99 a month.

Please excuse the pink item at the bottom of the stack. That was not actually part of the review. This two dresses on the top are the dresses my stylist sent for this month.

Avid Dresser January 2018 Box Review

Let’s see the dresses my stylist has picked for me this month:

My stylist, Rachel, included a handwritten note telling me a little about her selections for me.

Black Floral Wrap Dress, Size M - Estimated Value $40

I’m really loving the silhouette of this dress. I like that it highlights my waist and that the gathering at the shoulder helps give me a bit more of a square upper body shape. Since this is a true wrap dress, meaning it completely opens, I will probably wear some compression shorts in case of gusts of wind. The little ties at the sleeves are a cute detail. I had to layer a bralette under this to give me some support with the deep v-neck (regular bra was showing too much). Otherwise, it wasn't see-through and the fabric is nice and lightweight, perfect for spring!

Avid Dresser Burgundy Shirt Dress, Size M - Estimated Value $29.99

This chiffon shirt dress has a very casual, almost unstructured fit. There are some things I like, like the color and the flowy fabric, and some things that needed my attention, like the boxiness. I combated the shape issue by grabbing a very structured belt and I thought it helped. I would most definitely wear some black leggings under it if I were to wear this to work due to the length. The buttons on the cuffs are nice because it allows the sleeves to be rolled up if I want. I’ll have to play around with styling this dress some more to see if I can get the look just right.

The Verdict: This month I received one dress that was totally my style and another that will push me outside of my normal look. I’m super impressed that my broad upper body fit into these non-strechy dresses but they still felt a little snug. I’m finding that many of the dresses have a cut that might align with what you’d find in a junior’s department (not a lot of space for ample busts). I let my stylist, Rachel, know that I wanted to try going up a size to see if that helped with next month’s dresses. She was quick to note the change. So, I got two dresses for $49.99. Customer service is always great and has helped with any issues that I have run into along the way. I’m really looking forward to seeing how sizing up works for my body.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Avid Dresser picks dresses for you based on your style preferences and what they have in stock. What you get might not be the same as what I got, but you also might get something that fits your style and body even better than the looks above! Sign up and see what they choose for you!

Value Breakdown: The cost of this box is $49.99 for two dresses. That means you are paying about $25 for each dress. I think the value of the dresses at least equals or exceeds that amount.

I think both of those dresses look amazing on you. Your stylist has a great eye for fashion. You don’t see that much with these companies. I’ll definitely be putting this on my want list.

I went to the website to check this out. I normally wear an XL, especially with my broad shoulders. Basically if your dress size is over 12, this isn’t for you unless you want to go with the curvy subscription ($34.99/one dress/month). Then if you try to take the style quiz you can only choose up to size 10/12. Also, the discount code isn’t valid with the curvy subscription. This doesn’t seem customer friendly enough for me.
