Winter 2017 Vegan Cuts Makeup Box Review

information card reads a cause for celebration

The theme for this season's box was "A Cause for Celebration." The theme/contents card is decorated with watercolor leafy branches.

list of items in the box

Here's the content card listing all items included in the winter box.

vegan primer

primer ingredients

Evelyn Iona Green Tea Primer - Retail Value $29.50

This is a simple vegan primer with the lightest green tea scent. I only needed a small amount to cover my face and it went on smoothly. The primer left my face feeling lightly sticky (which it would be gross for anything except a makeup primer!) and ready for makeup.

100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Eyeshadow in Halo - Retail Value $26.00

I don't typically wear white or super light eyeshadows but the shimmer in this works great as a brow highlight. I also liked using it as a highlight at the corner of my eyes to help make me look more awake! I like that this from 100% pure is pigmented with fruit instead of chemical dyes. Keep scrolling to see the eyeshadow swatched below!

vegan lip tint box

vegan lip tip tube

vegan lip tint open

Inika Organic Certified Organic Lip Tint in Cosmic - Retail Value $22.00

When I uncapped this lip tint I was worried about how deep the color looked and the subtle shimmer. I prefer more coral shades but this looked like a deep berry color to me in the tube. I tried it on and actually really liked the color! It ended up being more orangey-coral, just like I hoped. Some lip tints can be drying but this was more like a tinted lip balm - nice and hydrating! This is one I'll keep handy when I need just a little bit of color. Keep scrolling to see the lip tint swatched below!

osea firming lotion

OSEA Atmosphere Protection Cream - Retail Value $48.00

What a great bonus item this month! I've heard such great things about the OSEA brand and was excited to see it in this box. This cream left my face feeling firm but not dry, and would work great as a primer layered over my regular moisturizer. It has a light and not overwhelming scent with hints of lavender and geranium. I feel great about the ingredients in this cream too, with recognizable ingredients like Algae Extract, Avocado, Jojoba, Lavender, Macadamia Seed Oil, and Shea Butter.

ofra translucent powder container ofra translucent powder with the lid off

OFRA Cosmetics Translucent Powder in Light - Retail Value $23.00

I use translucent powder every day to set my under eye concealer and reduce shine on my nose, chin, and forehead. This powder is lightly tinted for my fair complexion and was truly translucent on the skin. It worked just as well as my go-to powder in keeping my concealer from creasing. I like that this is a smaller size than what I normally use so it'll be even better for travel.

Here are the swatches! At the top is the Inika Organic Lip Tint and next is the very subtle 100% Pure Fruit Tinted Eyeshadow.

Verdict: The value of this season's box is $148.50, which is great! I love that Vegan Cuts sends full-size beauty products and lets me designate color preferences before the box ships. My favorite item from the box was the lip tint which is surprising because I did not like it when I first saw it. I've been layering moisturizers this winter so I'm happy to see a good quality face cream this season. Everything in this box is useful to me and easy to work into my routine without feeling like I have to go bold with something new.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes! The Winter box ships by January 24th. Billing for the Spring Box starts on March 20th.

Value Breakdown: At $39.95 + free shipping for this box, here's approximately what you're paying for each item:

  • Primer: $7.94
  • Eyeshadow: 6.99
  • Lip Tint: $5.93
  • Cream: $12.91
  • Translucent Powder: $6.19

Hi There, if anyone is interested in getting this box it’s avail as a one time purchase on Vegan Cuts now under “vegan gifts”. I really wanted this for the OSEA creme but didn’t want to subscribe. And, if you use the coupon code STAY it takes 15% off. I got my box for $34. total. I’m happy with that since the creme is expensive. I’m looking forward to the powder as well and you still have a choice of shade but I’d hurry up as choices may diminish. Cheers….

Is it me or has that green tea primer been in like three different boxes in the past month?
Also, great review emily!

Yep. It’s making the rounds. 🙂 but on a good note is that I keep reading good reviews about it (both from reviewers & commenters)!

I really like that Osea cream, I got it somewhere before at least twice. But, I dislike the bottle. It becomes downright impossible to get the product out with the pump when there is like 1/3 of it left. I get that they are making a point to use glass instead of plastic, but the product is a little too thick for dispensing through a pump.

I totally agree, just had that issue. I thought about putting my serum into the bottle ad shaking it up…. But I was able to really get most of the product out…but next time I just might end up doing that if I have a serum that is pretty liquid-y.
