TokyoTreat is a snack subscription box filled with candy and other tasty goodies from Japan. A little salty, a little sweet... all very authentic to what you'd find walking through a convenience store in Japan.

Pocky Double Fromage - Retail Value $2.14

I needed to look it up, but fromage means cheese! This little snack has cocoa and cheese in the biscuit for a really unique flavor. To be honest, I didn't really get a strong cheese flavor at first, but when I started reading more I could taste very subtle hints of a light cheese mixed with that lovely cocoa flavor. The Pocky itself has 3.2x more of that yummy chocolate, score! The white chocolate is whipped together with milk for that extra creamy texture that just melts in your mouth. The November box was off to a great start with this snack!

Morinaga Strawberry Ramune - Retail Value $4.80

This candy has been around in Japan for over 40 years! A classic snack that comes in a mini-ramune shaped container. I absolutely loved the strawberry flavor of these tablet candies. They are chalky like a bottle cap with that sweet and sour fruitiness that is so good in a hard candy!

Calbee Osatsu Snack - Retail Value $3.68

This snack is only available during the cold seasons. The little chips are made with a mixture of steamed and baked Anno sweet potatoes. The chips are light and crunchy which makes them so easy to eat a lot of! The sweet potato flavors for this snack are sweeter than others I have tried so it almost tastes like you are eating a sweet dessert. Very unique, delicious, and perfect for this time of the year!

Dagashi Bag Mix (5 items)

In this box, you will find a plastic bag filled with 5 random dagashi snacks and 1 Umaibo. According to TokyoTreat, “Dagashi snacks are the Japanese version of old-fashioned penny candy” and Umaibo is a super popular corn puff snack whose name literally means “delicious stick.”

I like to start my Dagashi bag with the Umaibo stick. This month's flavor is cheese and is another Umaibo flavor that I can add to my favorite list! There wasn't anything too fancy or overpowering, just a really strong cheddar cheese like flavor. Basically, this was like a really big cheese puff, which was amazing and so yummy!

The next snack is a cola gummy. Not only did this candy come in the shape of a bottle of cola, but it also tasted just like it! The gummy itself was that perfect mix of soft and chewy with a thick sugar coating. The flavors were that perfect cola taste without the bubbles. Such a fun little candy!

I love marshmallow, but it is a treat I rarely buy for myself. Getting this twisted marshmallow stick was such a fun surprise! Nothing crazy here, just that perfect fluffy marshmallow that is just so sugary. The best treat to snack on this time of year!

This snack is a baked sweet potato yokan. I wasn't sure what Yokan was, but when I looked it up it shows that it is a famous jelly dessert. Makes sense because this was basically a jelly stick that was very tricky to get out of the wrapper. I think I had a hard time getting past the look of this, it really took the shape of the wrapper, to the point that I just couldn't enjoy it that much. It really was a cold jelly mold that tasted like a bittersweet potato. There wasn't much sweetness to it, which I think might have made this snack a bit more fun. I have never tried anything like this before so I was excited to taste test such a unique treat!

The final snack for the month is a Yakisoba Sauce mix! Yakisoba is a fried buckwheat noodle stir-fry dish. This little mixture is a dried version of this noodle dish and was so yummy! It was salty from the soy sauce and crunchy from the noodles. I could see this being great added to a hot bowl of soup as a topper on a cold night.

Verdict: TokyoTreat is always a fun box to receive because you really never know what you are going to find! I loved the November box because I learned a lot about each of the different snacks. Who would have thought that cheese, cocoa, and white chocolate would work well together?! The Dagashi bag used to make me nervous because you just never knew what you were going to get. Now, I know that TokyoTreat is creating a great mixture of unique snacks that I get excited to try each one! I think it is safe to say that TokyoTreat has pushed me out of my comfort zone in snacking and has taught me so much each month!

Value Breakdown: This box is $14.99 a month and I received 8 total snacks in my November box. The value per item calculates out to $1.87, which is a great overall value for the cost of the box each month. The Dagashi bag snacks are hard to value out, but the 3 featured snacks for the month all come in above that average. TokyoTreat does a great job bringing the value in a variety of snacks that come in a great size to enjoy and share with friends.

My grandmother loved yokan when she was alive. But her favorite was always the red bean or mung bean flavors, definitely not the yam one!

Mine is on the way and should arrive any day now. Pretty excited about trying that Pocky (and the squid crackers sound very interesting as well).
