There were a ton of cards included with more information about the subscription, a description of one of this month’s teas, and more. There is a lot of exclusive online content (discounts, etc.) for this subscription (URLs blocked out at the box owner’s request).

There was also a business card for Andy, who runs Plum Deluxe. I blocked out his information because I’m not sure he wants his phone number published online, but he is pretty accessible if you need to get in touch with him for any reason.

Please note: This month’s teas did not appear in the Plum Deluxe shop. Most Plum Deluxe blends go for about $7 per ounce.

Plum Deluxe Gratitude Blend Black Tea

You’ll get a sample every month in addition to the one or two main teas. This month it is this strawberry Earl Grey. The strawberry flavor here is definitely apparent but not overpowering; the bergamot isn’t quite as noticeable. This one is really good – and the tea, itself, is so pretty, too!

Plum Deluxe Self Care Blend Herbal Tea

This is a caffeine free herbal tea with honeybush as the main base and some delicate fruit flavors as well. The pieces here are a bit smaller than with the black tea and it really helps to use a disposable filter bag or something that will hold finer pieces when brewing. This has some marigold in it, too, and I love any tea with flower petals (seriously). I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this one but the blend works very well together, with some natural sweetness but no actual sugar. This one is nice and calming even without the traditional calming ingredients (like chamomile).

Plum Deluxe Cinnamon Cider Chai Tea

This is a blend of black and rooibos teas (so it does have caffeine) along with traditional chai spices. This also has apple pieces (which look nice, but don’t have a strong flavor, although I think I can detect it a little). If you brew it for a little less time than I did (I tend to walk off and forget tea…), I think the cinnamon will be a little less strong and let the apple come through more. At any rate, this is an excellent fall blend.

Here are the teas, brewed. From left to right: the black tea, the herbal tea, and the chai.

Verdict: I didn’t calculate a value for Plum Deluxe because the tea blends for this month weren’t available in their shop. However, the going rate in their shop seems to be about $7 per ounce for tea blends. Two ounces of exclusive, artisan teas and a sample of a third seems like a good value to me for $16 per month. I enjoyed all of the teas – and not only did they taste good, but they were a pleasure to look at (I care about these sorts of things) and they were definitely seasonally appropriate.

I’ve been a subscriber for over a year and their teas blends are the best out there. I try tea ALL the time, and I always come back to my favorites at Plum Deluxe. They’ve also expanded my horizons on the types of tea that I thought I liked. Going in, I had never had Oolong tea, thought I didn’t like Oolong tea, but what do you know – they totally killed with an amazing Oolong blend that was out of this world! So, really do give it a go – plus, they’re online Facebook community is the BEST and they even do swaps about twice a year – super fun!

I don’t do Facebook so thanks for sharing about that, for those who are interested.

I used to think I didn’t like oolong, but it turns out I don’t like BIGELOW oolong. Other kinds are fine. (So, it pays to try different brands of the same variety, because not all teas are equal.)
