The box came with this information card.
Oomaloo Corn (medium) – Retail Value $13.20
This is a plush toy with a fun combination of textures (it’s hand-knit, too!). Unfortunately, it is a bit too small for Nyx. I wish they’d sent the larger version, which would’ve been more appropriate. Still, I appreciate the exposure to a new brand.
Hartz Chew ‘n Clean Dental Treat in Bacon and Cheese (11 oz) – Retail Value $8.47
I am pretty sure this is new to the market and it is definitely nice to get items that have just been released. (There was a little card in the box from Hartz, asking you to share photos on social media…) These have wheat and chicken, so Nyx is unable to try them, but I think my parents’ dog (who is also fairly large) would be a fan so I will pass them along. They have ridges that are supposed to scrub at the tooth surfaces as your dog chews.
Exclusively Dog Harvest Blends in Cranberry and Carrot (7 oz) – Retail Value $7.19 (found on sale here for $5.63)
These are chewy treats. They are free of wheat, corn, and soy, though they do have barley and rice flour so they are not grain-free. They have dairy ingredients but no other animal-based proteins, so they will still be good for a lot of dogs with food allergies and sensitivities. The flavors are nice for fall and the cranberry may help a little with urinary tract issues. These are made in the US.
Roast Beef Flavored Kibble Spray (2 oz) – Retail Value $5.95
You spray this on kibble to provide omega 3 fatty acids and to make the food more palatable. This is grain free and the omega 3s are from plant oils, so it will be suitable for a lot of dogs with allergies and food sensitivities. Nyx can’t have kibble (yes, really) and she’s on prednisone, so she is always hungry anyway and doesn’t need any extra encouragement to eat. But, I know some people with senior dogs for whom this could be a big help, so it will go to a good use. This company is in the same city where I live; it’s always fun to discover new local products.
SPOT (Ethical) Gigglers Turkey – Retail Value $6.29?
This turkey must be a seasonal item, but I found a chicken from the same product line, so I’ve assigned that value here. This toy has an interesting combination of textures, which makes it fun for Nyx. She especially liked holding down the legs with her paws and pulling on the head with her teeth (this is something she does with toys, I guess it is her way of playing tug with herself). This survived our first play session, which is nice.
Here are some photos of Nyx enjoying the turkey toy.
Verdict: I calculated a value of $41.10 for the November Pet GiftBox for dogs. That’s a good amount over the cost of the box on a month-to-month basis and is even a little better than last month. I’m a bit sad that the corn toy was too small for Nyx, as I’m sure she would have loved it, but I may look for a sale from the maker of that one so I can try some of their larger toys with Nyx. The turkey was a hit and everything had a nice fall/Thanksgiving theme overall (without replicating the contents of my other dog subscription boxes this month, too).
