The box came with this information card.

Pet Gift Box Cat October 2017 Kicker

Mauve Moose Halloween Kicker – Retail Value $6?

Monkey claimed this from the very beginning. I guess it has some good catnip. It is medium-sized for a “kicker” type toy (you can see it in a photo with Monkey below for scale) but all he wanted to do was lick, lick, lick. This design isn’t available any longer, but the other kickers in this Etsy shop are all priced the same, so that’s where I got the value.

Pet Gift Box Cat October 2017 Pumpkin

Petest Vibrating Pumpkin Cat Toy – Retail Value $3.99?

Monkey was also into this. It is a plush toy with a ring that you can pull. The toy vibrates until the ring returns to its original position. Most of my cats are not so interested in vibrating toys, but as long as one cat expresses interest, I am generally happy, since most of my cats are older and less playful. (I think this brand is wholesale-only, plus it is seasonal, so I have given it a value based on similar items I found elsewhere.)

Pet Gift Box Cat October 2017 Spider

Ellie Baba Designs Spider Cat Teaser – Retail Value $6?

This was the clear winner from this box. Angus, Madison, and Sneaky all loved it. Angus and Sneaky played with it more traditionally, whereas Madison tried to eat the legs (which were made from thin ribbons). This has a plush body and is attached to a rope for interactive play. I would probably only give this to your cats while they are supervised due to the many stringlike elements. This design is no longer available, so I’ve priced it the same as another teaser toy from the same Etsy shop.

Pet Gift Box Cat October 2017 Treats

Vital Essentials Vitalcat Freeze Dried Ahi Tuna (1.1 oz) – Retail Value $5

Ooh, this smells like fish food. Ick. The cats were all interested in the smell, but only Sneaky actually ate the treats. My cats are not all that crazy about freeze-dried meat. While it’s great from an ingredients perspective, they don’t seem to care for the flavor or texture.

Pet Gift Box Cat October 2017 Wand

Crochet Kitty Bat Wand – Retail Value $10

Here is a dangly toy on a stick. Angus got the most out of this toy, but I could’ve predicted that before our play session. Angus is crazy for most toys, especially the dangly ones. This one has three felt bats on a string for some seasonal fun.

Gratuitous cat photo time!

Angus sniffs the treats. He didn’t end up actually eating them, but I guess the smell was intriguing.

Angus plays with the spider dangler. He mostly wanted to do this while on a chair under the dining room table. Go figure – cats.

He was also interested in the bat wand.

Madison tried to eat the spider dangler’s legs.

These pictures don’t fully express how much Monkey loved licking this thing. It was soaking wet when he was done.

Sneaky DID eat the treats.

She also very much enjoyed the spider dangler.

Mr. Kitty was sleeping and refused to be roused. Well, he’s old and chronically ill so he gets a pass.

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $31 for the October Pet GiftBox for cats. That is a few dollars above the month-to-month cost of the box. Although the treats weren’t a smashing success, the toys pretty much all were. It was nice to get so many Etsy items (finding new artisans plus no shipping charges is a definite win!), and even Monkey and Madison played with the items this month, which doesn’t always happen.

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the November box.

Ragan is Angus a cuddler?

Angus is till young. I have found that most my cats are a few years old before they start to cuddle. They just want to play. But that’s been my experience.

If you sit on the couch, he will come sit in your lap and fall asleep. That is about the only time he really seems to want human contact.
