The theme for this month is India!
The booklet included each month provides you with a little tour of India! Not only is there a whole section outlining each snack featured in this month's box, but there is a culture section outlining fun facts about India, top phrases, and then a music section. I love when a box provides something extra like a custom playlist that goes along with that month's theme!

Haldirams Soan Papdi, 8.82 oz. - Retail Value $8.00 (found on sale for $7.00)
This flaky treat is a popular dessert in North India, and is most likely the original cotton candy confection in India. I have had this in another box and absolutely loved it. Made with sugar, chickpea flour, milk, and ghee this really does taste like a handmade cotton candy. The pistachios top this dessert off to give it that extra crunch and saltiness. The treat itself just melts in your mouth and is so fluffy and flakey. Such a unique dessert!
Parle Hide n Seek, 2.90 oz. – Retail Value $3.50 (found on sale for $3.00)
Parle was founded in 1929 in Mumbai which was then British India. When India became independent, Parle launched an ad campaign to say that their biscuits were an alternative to British biscuits. How interesting! Fast forward to 1996, these little chocolate chip cookies were produced. This snack is really unique in that it does taste like a biscuit but with all the goodness you can find in a chocolate chip. It is crunchy yet creamy, with little bits of chocolate chunks. A wonderful snack to enjoy with your afternoon coffee or tea.
Deep Sesame Chikki, 7 oz. – Retail Value $3.00 (found on sale for $2.00)
The tastes of this snack are very similar to an old-fashioned brittle, but instead, this is made with sesame seeds. Not too sweet or sticky, just the right amount of sweetness and the rich sesame flavors. This yummy treat is very addicting, which is probably why they come individually packaged so that you can enjoy them on the go!
Haldirams Southern Delight - Chakoli, 7.06 oz. – Retail Value $7.00 (found on sale for $6.00)
These might look like cookies, but watch out because they are spicy! What I learned from my booklet is that this snack is more like a pretzel with ingredients of flours of rice, chickpeas, and black gram. The dough is then deep fried in oil to give it that crunchy outer layer. Once I got over the shock of how spicy these were, I was really into them! The crunch mixed with the spice and richness from the flour and chickpeas made for a really unique snacking experience.
Haldirams Khatta Meetha, 7.06 oz. – Retail Value $6.00 (found on sale for $5.00)
The name of this snack means sour and sweet in Hindi! The crunchy mixture includes puffed rice, dried noodles, toasted lentils, and peanuts. The overall flavors have that wonderful spice coating that makes the sour flavors really come out and is wonderful with all of the crunchy ingredients. The sweetness comes from raisins, which is very unique, and the saltiness comes from chickpea flour. This was like an elevated snack mix that provided layers on layers of flavors. I could not put this bag down!
Deep Jeera Khakhara, 7 oz. – Retail Value $5.50 (found on sale for $4.50)
This is a wheat crisp that is traditionally eaten during breakfast, so interesting! The ingredients here are simple, oil, flour, salt, and cumin seeds. The bag also comes with a masala spice packet that you can use to sprinkle on top. The reason that this is such a popular breakfast snack is that it is low in cholesterol and calories, and it can also be paired nicely with a hot cup of chai tea. While I didn't eat mine for breakfast, I thought this snack was delightful! I could also see it being great dipped in hummus or paired with a food platter of grilled veggies. Very unique!
Verdict: TopMunch has quickly become one of my favorite snack boxes! I am always so excited to see what will be featured month to month, and truly enjoy going through and learning about each snack's history. The booklet itself is amazing to read over because it takes you on a traveling journey without leaving your house! I don't get to travel as much as I would like so this box really helps take my imagination and tastebuds to far away places that I might not have an opportunity to travel to.
At $29 a month, I received six total snacks, which averages out to $4.83 per item (or valued at $33.00 retail or 27.50 with sale prices). I did receive one less snack than I have in previous months which brought the overall value down a bit. I would like to see one or two more snacks for the value to go up a bit, but I think TopMunch really is about the overall experience and learning about new places and cultures!
