TokyoTreat is a snack subscription box filled with candy and other tasty goodies from Japan. A little salty, a little sweet... all very authentic to what you'd find walking through a convenience store in Japan.

TokyoTreat includes an informational booklet in each box. The theme for October is, you guessed it, Halloween! My favorite Holiday and season!

The booklet gives a detailed look at what snacks are in each size box! It also highlights a fun jelly DIY kit and a list of what the lucky treats of the month are!

The booklet continues with a really helpful section outlining their featured dagashi bags! I loved learning more about this mystery bag that I have become so accustomed to receiving! Plus, a fun feature on USJ Halloween Horror Night. The booklet really provides so much fun information for the snacks and more, now let's get to the snacks!

Koala's March: Halloween Version - Value $3.08

This is one of the most famous snacks in Japan, and I can totally see why! I received this snack in another box and ate the entire package on my own. Needless to say, I was way too excited when I saw this sweet treat in this month's TokyoTreat! These are essentially hallowed cookies with a creamy chocolate cream filling. The filling tastes like an icing and is perfectly sweetened, not too much not too little. With this box, I did decide to share them with my son who loved the Koala prints on each cookie and the taste!

Zombie Maker Gum (buy 20 pieces for $25.00)

This is the perfect Halloween set to receive! In each packet, you will receive a zombie, a piece of gum, and two sticker sheets. Embarrassingly enough, I thought the stickers were meant to decorate the gum, but I was wrong and realized that after I started chewing the game (the stickers did not dissolve - hahaha)! If you use this fun little game correctly, you can use the stickers to decorate your zombie and enjoy the chewing gum while you build your zombie. The gum itself was a sweet fruity flavor and extra thin which was really interesting. The shining star in this set though is the zombie maker!

Paripipo Avocado Cheese Potato Snack - Value $14.99

This snack is made up of some of my favorite things, potato, cheese, and avocado! The little bites are hallowed which creates this delightful crunchy, crumbly texture. The main ingredient is potato, while one side contains avocado and the other side cheese. Mixed together in one bite makes this snack so incredible! There are different flavors to enjoy that you won't want to put this down!

Dagashi Bag (5 items)

In this box, you will find a plastic bag filled with 5 random dagashi snacks and 1 Umaibo. According to TokyoTreat, “Dagashi snacks are the Japanese version of old-fashioned penny candy” and Umaibo is a super popular corn puff snack whose name literally means “delicious stick.”

I tried the Umaibo first! Unfortunately, mine arrived in pieces, but the bottom little half was still together. This flavor must be very popular for fall because I have received so many of this corn soup version. I am very happy though because I already know that I love it! Normally I am hesitant to taste these different umaibo's, but I was able to just bite right into this one. Since this is a corn soup flavor, you get a really light sweetness from the corn and a sort of chicken brother flavor that lingers a bit. The perfect fall flavors.

The next snack is sort of like a bottle cap but has a fun Halloween theme to it. The bottom of the candy has different spooky characters on it that make a stamp. Just lick the bottom and stamp onto a piece of paper to see which character you go! The candy itself is very sweet with a little sour, and make sure to not bite right into these because they are very much a hard candy. Such a unique treat to help celebrate Halloween!

Another candy perfect for Halloween featuring this scary vampire! The packaging didn't really explain or giveaway what the treat inside would be. After biting in, you will see that these are little balls of gum! The center wasn't red like I thought it would be, but the gum itself was really fruity and juicy. The outer shell was hard like a gumball, and the center was extra juicy. Overall, nothing too crazy or unique but I did love the fun box that these little gumballs came in!

This next snack was a big miss for me. When you open the package, you are hit with a very strong fish smell, it was really overwhelming. The snack itself was like a candied or dried piece of fish skin. The texture was sort of rubbery and, again, just a very strong fish smell but not the appetizing kind. Unfortunately, I had to pass on trying more of this one.

TokyoTreat Box October 2017 - 0028 TokyoTreat Box October 2017 - 0029

Our last snack of the month was this round crisp! Sort of like the umaibo, this was a corn soup flavor. This treat was very sweet, almost like a sweet caramel corn. The crisp itself was really light and airy and broke apart nicely while eating. I could see these crisps being delicious with a hummus or a corn salsa. Another great snack to enjoy during the cooler fall season.

Verdict: Halloween is such a fun holiday, especially when it comes to snacks! TokyoTreat did a wonderful job curating a box that you can enjoy throughout the entire month. I also loved that the three featured snacks were a sweet, salty, and a fun game type snack. I have said this before, but TokyoTreat really does a great job in providing a wide variety of snacks each month. With the monthly cost of the box of $14.99, each item would equal out to a value of $1.87. Last month, I thought the value was a bit low, but this month the items that I received were a bit larger in size. So while I still think it might be good to receive one larger item or an extra mystery snack, the overall value isn't that far off from the monthly cost. My favorite snack from this month, hands down, were the Koala March cookies, and my least favorite was the fish mystery item. One thing is for sure, TokyoTreat is an all-around experience from the extremely detailed booklet to that variety of snacking!

I know that your review said that you didn’t like it at all, but now I’m even more curious about trying that fish skin thingie because I got one in my box as well.
