This subscription is called Avé Lipstick, brought to you by Linden Cosmetics, but the lipstick brand itself is "Envie". They sell single lipsticks on their site for $29.99 each but sell subscriptions for as little as three lipsticks for $10.99 per month. That seems like a really drastic difference that makes me think they aren't really worth $29.99 each. When you first sign up, you'll receive the first lipstick for free so that you can try it. After that, you'll be shipped a new lipstick (or two, or three) each month, but unless you go in and manually change it. It seems like they will send the same color.

I went to the site to choose my color, and this is the one I decided on. If you're on the subscription page, it shows swatches but doesn't have a color name, so you aren't able to know what you're choosing except by sight. They do list the colors out at the bottom of the page all at once, under "additional information", but they're kind of generic, like "brick red", "hot pink", etc.

Envie Lipstick in Red-Brown - Listed Value $29.99

When my lipstick arrived, it came in a padded envelope, alone. I'm so used to receiving info cards and branded items, that this seemed a little lo-fi. The tube itself is pretty unassuming and didn't come in a box, or plastic. The color isn't listed anywhere on the tube either.

When I opened it up, the color did look like the swatch I had chosen online. The lipstick itself is a basic cream formula, not matte or glossy.

It went on my lips easily and felt moisturizing, but the pigment wasn't as dark as I was expecting. I think I've been spoiled by ultra-pigmented matte lippies that look the same on as they do in the tube.

The staying power wasn't really there either. It transferred to my hand when kissed, and came off pretty easily with drinking and eating. You'd definitely have to reapply this one a lot throughout the day.

Verdict: Avé Lipstick didn't really wow me. The site was a bit confusing, the retail prices seemed inflated, and overall it didn't end up feeling like a special experience. If you're looking for lipstick to be delivered to you for as little as $4.33 each ($10.99 for three, plus $2.00 shipping), with no frills, then this would be your go-to. Nothing with the packaging or presentation screamed "luxury" to me (though that's what they claim). Although I appreciate their formula to be free of paraben, sulfate, fragrance, and alcohol, I will probably stick with my other tried-and-true subscriptions for lippies, even though they are pricier.

I have a side question. What did you use to get your amazing, perfect, blonde/brown eyebrows in that photo with the lip color? I would love to get the exact same thing!

For that price you’d be better off spending a little more and getting some of Colour Pop’s lippies at $6 per!

Thank you Marne for an honest, not-Pollyanna review! So for 12.99 you get three lipsticks. For the same price, you get three or four lip products from Lip Monthly, plus a bag, with various formulas (gloss/stick/liquid stain/matte/liner), from various companies.

Absolutely. I think they could do with more “pizazz”, and generally, the formula just didn’t stack up to some others. I think a lot of people fall in love with subscription boxes for the fanfare and excitement, just as much as the actual products. It goes a long way.
