Burt's Bees Baby 100% Organic Cotton Burp Cloth - Value $3.70 (buy a pack of 5 for $18.51)

First things first: I'm 7 months pregnant and a total newbie mom. I've done my fair share of research, but I'm overall pretty clueless as to what I will need (vs. what's just a nice-to-have) in preparing for my baby boy. That's a huge part of why a welcome box that provides essentials and product samples was so appealing to me. And starting off with this burp cloth, one of the things I knew I'd eventually need to pick up, was a terrific surprise. I love how soft it is. Plus, organic is a plus.

Munchkin Latch Miracle Nursing Pads (2) - Value $0.33 (buy a pack of 60 for $9.99)

These will be great for a one-time try, but it would be nice to receive more than 2 -- especially since a pack of 60 is only $9.99.  Still, excited to see how these adhesive pads work for me throughout the nursing journey. They're surprisingly thin which will be terrific for concealing.

Pampers Wipes + Diaper Sample Pack - Value $1.00?

This little case came with a single newborn diaper and pack of 6 wipes. The velcro pouch might come in handy for tossing into a bag during outings, and I like that I get to try two popular products from a big name like Pampers. The wipes have a gentle, almost cotton-y smell, but the label also states that they are perfume free, so I assume the scent to be natural.

SwaddleDesigns Cotton Muslin Swaddle Blanket, Black Hedgehog - Value $12.99

What an adorable print! The material of this swaddle blanket was stretchy, breathable, and soft allowing for easy swaddling. It also feels surprisingly durable for how thin it is. This was definitely the most substantial item in the welcome box, and I can't wait to test it during sleep time. It would also make for some super cute photos as a backdrop considering its generous size (46' x 46') or act as a tummy time mat in a pinch.

Huggies Little Snugglers Diapers, Size 1 (2) - Value $0.51 (buy a pack of 35 for $8.99)

I'm not sure what type of diaper we'll prefer once my baby arrives, so it's great to be able to try out different styles! I like that Huggies labels the front and back of the diaper -- I have a feeling that this will come in extra handy as my husband and I slowly begin our descent into the delirium of middle-of-the-night changes. These diapers are pretty identical to the Pampers variety in texture/softness. However, they do appear to come up a bit higher and a be a smidge wider for a size 1.

Huggies Natural Care Unscented Baby Wipes Soft Pack (56 count) - Value $1.97 (buy 8 packs for $15.76)

As much as I appreciate samples to feel out my options and make decisions around personal preferences, full-size products are so. so. great. This substantial pack of 56 immediately made its way onto my changing table. I love that these are made with aloe and vitamin E for baby's sensitive skin, and the large pack allows for dispensing one wipe at a time.

Babyganics Ultra Absorbent Diapers, Size 1 (2) - Value $0.87 (buy a pack of 40 for $17.49)

Yay, more diapers! I love that these are extra absorbent and free of toxins, latex, or fragrances. Like the other 2 diaper samples, these have a wetness strip indicator to signal when your baby needs a change. They do feel a bit softer and just... more natural (because they are) than the other samples too. Made with plant-based ingredients, they're super eco-friendly which is something that try to be conscious of. If you've tried diapers from Babygantics, Huggies, and Pampers, I'd be curious to know which your favorite is in the comments!

Aquaphor Healing Ointment, 0.03 oz. - Value $0.07 (buy a 3 oz. tube for $6.69)

I've heard good things about Aquaphor for diaper rash treatment and general baby skincare. Happy to add this to my stash of samples. I vaguely remember using Aquaphor on my first tattoo, so I know that it's been a trusted brand in gentle, sensitive skincare for years. The product itself is a clear, very thick, and unscented gel-like ointment. I intend to use it as a prophylactic against diaper rash, but it has multiple purposes including treatment for irritated skin on the body, drool rash, and minor cuts.

bloom BABY Sensitive Skin Unscented Hypoallergenic Baby Wipes) (1) - Value $0.06 (buy an 80-count for $4.99)

It's cool that this box offered such a variety of wipes. This natural, vitamin-enriched version runs a bit more expensive per wipe than the Huggies 56 count pack (about $1 more for the same amount), but it's nice to test out different styles. The wipes are large, thick, and make for durability. From bloom BABY's product description:

"The wipes contain 98 percent natural ingredients and its EcoFiber wipe material is ultra-soft, non-brasive and sensitive for rash and eczema prone skin."

Philips AVENT Natural Polypropylene 4 oz. Bottle – Value $5.92 (buy a 4-pack for $23.70)

I was hoping that there would be a bottle in this box! I had zero prior to receiving it. The 4 oz. size is pretty perfect for newborns, and I'm looking forward to trying out a trusted brand like AVENT. The BPA free polypropylene material seems to be easy to care for too. Do you have a go-to bottle favorite?

Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion, For Delicate Skin, Fragrance Free, 1 oz. - Value $0.42 (buy a 18 oz. bottle for $7.50)

This lotion was actually recommended in my recent newborn care class. It also has excellent reviews on Amazon, so it's nice to know that it's so depended on by many! It's thick and moisturizing without feeling greasy on the skin, and I love that there's no funny scent.

Baby Dove Tip to Toe Wash Rich Moisture, 1.8 oz. (2) - Value $1.41 (buy a 20 oz. bottle for $7.82)

The clean scent of this rich moisture body wash is really nice. It's free of parabens, is hypoallergenic, tear-free, PH neutral, and is tested by pediatricians. It left a light and pleasant scent on my hand after I tested it.

Verdict: I was really pleased with this Amazon Baby Registry Welcome box! The full sized products and samples cover a nice variety of needs and categories like diaper changing, bathing, and nap time. And it's incredibly convenient to receive multiple samples before committing to full-size purchases -- especially if you're pretty in the dark, like me. The total value of this box came to $29.25. Not the greatest deal if you purchase this box for $35 but a good one you if you receive it for free.

We only use pampers swaddlers. We tried babyganic diapers and they were constantly leaking.

Another piece of advice I have learned is that pampers run small. I personally love Target brand the best. They had a good fit and didn’t leak. But Huggies were the best “name” brand. I’ve never tried the organic ones so I can’t speak to those.

My thoughts on diapers now that I am 95% through potty training:

****1. A lot of diapers heavily discount for sizes 1 and 2, so when you compare prices per diaper, look at Size 3.****

2. There seem to be 2 basic shapes, and my kiddo worked in the skinny bootie shaped ones. This meant that negative online comments about the ones that worked for me (Honest, primarily) recommended the ones that leaked horribly for me (Seventh Gen).

3. I used Honest, which are pricey, but they fit well and some of my experimentation attempts resulted in diaper rash so I gave up on trial and error and just decided to shell out for the expensive ones. That said, I kinda wish I’d given Target Brand more of a shot as they seem like they might have worked okay and been hella cheaper, tho the fit was a little off.

4. “Sensitive” seem to actually make a difference for Huggies, but for Pampers, the “Sensitive” were still heavily perfumed and we had horrible diaper rash in 2 days of use.

I love that swaddle! Swaddle blankets also ended up being burp cloths for us a lot of the time so we had a dozen in circulation, but for every piece of “this is what saved my life” baby advice, there is an equal amount of “I never even used those”.

And we used Tommee Tippee bottles, which allowed us to go back and forth from nursing to bottle without a glitch.

Those little packs of diapers and wipes are super helpful for figuring out what works for your baby! As a seasoned mom, kids age 11 and 15, and former child care worker, I’ll tell you all kids are obviously different, including in what diapers will work! My daughter did fine with luvs after the really newborn stage in which she used pampers, and my son had to use Huggies almost exclusively. We didn’t have all the nice organic options at the time. Additional tip, my daughter was really tiny and at one point she didn’t really “fit” the next size diaper, but it held her volume of “pee” better than the smaller ones.

Target brand diapers are the best. They are way cheaper and work just as good as the expensive ones.

Great review! Those small packages of wipes are so handy for the diaper bag, car, purse. My oldest didn’t do well with the Phillips Avent bottle. We used Dr Browns. I always donated all the bottles we got in welcome boxes. It’s best to stick to 1 brand of bottles so all the replacement nipples are the same brand. It’s easier to replace all the nipples as the baby grows and uses ones with higher levels (wider openings).
Congratulations on your baby!
