This is the second box from Little Hiker, and I've been curious to see what was coming next! We really enjoyed our first box and still get a lot of use out of the pencils and magnifying glass in particular.
This month, the theme is Stay Cool – perfect for this hot weather we've been having!
Cool It Buddy Instant Cold Pack, 2 single use packs - Value $2.99
I'm definitely a prepared type of parent, trying to always restock our "on the go" bag with diapers, sunscreen, and snacks. This is one of those items that I rarely think about buying, but it's absolutely perfect to have on hand in an emergency: instant single-use cold packs.
We've definitely had our share of bumps and bruises while out and about this summer, so I'm sure we will be using these before too long. Plus, I like that they'd be an easy and fun way to cool down if we were out on the trail and got a little overheated.
Munk Pack Apple Quinoa Cinnamon Oatmeal Fruit Squeeze, 4.2 oz - Value $2.33 (Buy a 6 pack on Amazon for $13.97)
It's rare that I find a brand of squeeze pouch that we haven't tried, but this one is new to me! My toddler loves apple cinnamon flavors so I'm guessing he will slurp this down happily on our next outing.
I love that Little Hiker includes snacks; they are an important part of getting outside and avoiding overly cranky kids!
Aloe Up Aloe Ice Sunburn Relief Jelly, 1 oz - Value $1.75 (Buy full sized 4 oz for $6.99)
I was just thinking about how we don't have any aloe on hand, so this is another great "just in case" item to stash in our bag this summer. We've been good about sunscreen and wearing hats in the sun, but a little bit of a burn feels somewhat inevitable when you're playing outside for several hours every day.
Vapur Anti-Bottle, 0.5L - Value $6.99
(The info card does say it's a kids' bottle, but the child versions are 0.4L and feature cartoony designs.)
Staying hydrated in the summer is always a challenge with kids, and having a cool bottle really does help (at least in our case). I just picked up a similar bottle for myself for traveling, but I'm sure my son will get a kick out of this! I love how small they pack down and how easy they are to clip onto your bag or belt loop.
Charlie Banana Organic Wipes, Set of 2 - Value $2.08 (Buy a set of 10 on Amazon for $10.39)
These are simple, organic cotton wipes that can be wet with water for a quick rub down. My husband has made a habit of carrying around a bandana to help clean up our toddler's various messes, so once again, definitely a useful on-the-go item.
Branded Trail Book - Value $3.50
We received a few of these in our first box, too. My 2-year-old is a little too young and doesn't have a ton of interest in drawing yet, so this is the one thing in the box that we actually probably won't use this month.
KoolGator Cooling Neck Wrap - Value $8.99
My parents recently got back from a trip to the Grand Canyon that happened to be during the recent heatwave, and they swear by gadgets such as this. To use, you soak in water for 5 minutes, spread the absorbent material inside out evenly, and soak for 15 minutes more before wrapping around your neck. In extreme temperatures over 100 degrees, they don't stay wet for very long, but any little bit of cooling helps on a hot day. This is sized for parents, but this is an item that kids could use easily as well. The ladybug design is adorable!
Verdict: As I parent, I really do appreciate that Little Hiker encourages my son and me to get outside, even in the summer heat. While this box didn't have anything specifically for kids except for the snack, the items were all really useful for our outdoor adventures and I'm happy to have them all on hand.
Little Hiker promises $30 or more of value in each box, and using the sale prices for everything we came in at about $29 for the box. It feels like this could have used just one more small item for the kids or another snack, but on the whole, I think that Little Hiker has been a great addition to our summertime excursions this year, and we'll definitely use everything in here (except maybe the notebook).
