Taster’s Club Subscription Box Review – March 2017
Taster’s Club is a subscription that sends a new bottle of “must have” liquor to your door every month.
When you sign up for a subscription, you decide what kind of alcohol you’d like to receive.
The following clubs are available: Whisky, Bourbon, Scotch, Scotch Pro, Rum, Tequila, and Tequila Pro. This is a review of the Scotch Club.
My Subscription Addiction pays for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)
This review is of the Scotch Club, $79 a month, box.
The Subscription Box: Taster’s Club
The Cost: $79 per month + shipping for the Scotch Club (Shipping to DC was an additional $15.) Note that the price differs between clubs.
The Products: A different bottle of liquor every month. (My shipments feature Scotch because I joined the “Scotch Club.”)
A note about shipping: Taster’s Club does not list the U.S. states to which they ship on their website. Most alcohol subscription companies are unable to ship to all 50 states due to alcohol shipping restrictions, so I’m uncertain whether Taster’s Club is able to ship nationwide or not.

Taster’s Club shipments are accompanied by supplemental information that’s sent out via email. I usually receive it within a few days of my monthly shipment.
Tomatin 12 Year Old French Oak Single Malt – Value $64.99
This month’s Scotch Club selection is Tom12-Year-Oldr Old French Oak Single Malt. Tomatin is a Highland distillery that’s located about 25 minutes north of Inverness, and this release is a North American exclusive bottling.
The spirit was first aged in Bourbon Hogshead (for the first 9 years) and then finished in French casks that were originally used to age red wine.
Taster’s Club supplied the following tasting notes for this bottle:
“Malty biscuits, vanilla, coconut, red fruits, white peach and cashew nuts with fresh rocket initially and candy sweets, toffee and butterscotch come through as it warms.”
When I taste this whisky, though, I pick up a flavor that reminds me of caramel apple and oak. It’s very well-rounded, and the finish is smooth and creamy. I really like it!
Verdict: I’m quite pleased with this bottle from Taster’s Club. Tomatin is a new discovery for me, and I’m now eager to explore more of their offerings! I’ve been subscribing to Taster’s Club for quite awhile now, and I do have to point out that this is not a high value (or even a break even) subscription. That said, I do think it’s a fun way to discover new whiskies, and I think it would be a welcome gift for a whisky-loving friend.
