Best Book Subscriptions List

We live and breathe subscription boxes here at MSA, and we know many of our readers do too. This January, we surveyed YOU for your favorite boxes across several categories, and we're happy to finally be able to share the results!

Read on to see which 10 boxes you voted for topped the charts in the "Best Book Box" category - and see who we're watching in 2017 at the end of the list, too.

These boxes include all genres: new fiction, young adult or YA, science fiction, fantasty, and even action thrillers! Some boxes keep it pretty straightforward and only send a curated book each month; others include additional goodies like snacks, or even accessories that go along with the books plot! Read on to find a recommended monthly book club that is right for you.

My favorite book box is Coffee and a Classic. You get a classic book, a bookmark, a mug, coffee or tea, a snack, and two bookish items all centered around the book.

I highly recommend 2 book subscription boxes:

1) Muse Monthly has a piece of women’s fiction paired with a tea, along with a couple more items. Some boxes are author curated.

2) Literary Box by Quarterly is author curated…the author writes a note talking about his or her book and why they selected the 2 others books (by different authors) to add to the box (there are also a couple of fun items added). On top of this…there are post notes filled with notes by the author throughout his/her book. Makes for a truly unique reading experience.

Lilypost (3 picture books or board books for $26/mo, I think) is also great for little kids. We loved their December box of picture books!

My Lit Box and Call Number both provide books by authors of color, which I appreciate, and Book Riot’s Book Mail Box is great too.

I highly recommend The Nocturnal Readers box. It includes 2 books, one new release and one older book. The books are based on a different horror theme each month. They also include several other items. I subscribe to several book boxes and this one is my favorite.

April Chaney

I came looking for a horror box! Thanks!!

Yes! The Nocturnal Reader’s Box is one of my very favorite boxes ever! It’s always adult horror. No sparkly vampires or YA books. Definitely for the serious horror reader. I’ve loved them all and they send fun stuff with each box according to the theme for the month.

Erin

Thank you so much for posting this. I think this box is exactly what I’ve been looking for!

Kathy

Try it Erin. I find most of the other boxes are too YA oriented. The included items are gender neutral and of a high quality. The items match the theme of the month well. I’ve enjoyed all the books and like being introduced to authors I haven’t heard of

Sara

I just found out about The Lady Lair box, and it just started in December I think. They include a book, lifestyle item and personal/beauty item. It includes 4-6 items and is $45 a month. I bought the teacup that was in the December box, it’s GORGEOUS!!
