There was a standard information card in the box listing the items, as well as a second card encouraging you to share on social media.

dogpeoplebox-july-2016-socks

Socksense Socks – Value $2.53

I wear size 7 shoes so general “one size fits all” socks almost always work for me. These are cute and will be great for wearing around the house.

Longboard Dachshund Hand Printed Reusable Drawstring Cotton Bag – Value $3

This is a custom item so I took the value based on the information card. What I like about this bag is that it is somewhat larger than the standard makeup bag you often get in subscription boxes, so it could be used to store or protect larger items (for example, makeup brushes or flats during travel). It seems pretty well-made, also.

Badtags Custom Tags – Value $14

You can read what this says in the photo. I find it uproariously funny for reasons that are best left unshared. Nyx is not a particularly gassy dog, despite all her intestinal issues, but this would’ve been SO PERFECT for my last Rottie, Jet. (And don’t worry, the video just shows you what Jet looked like. No dog gas demonstrations here!)

dogpeoplebox-july-2016-custom

DogPeopleBox Tumbler – Value $14.99

I took this value from the information card since it is a custom item. It has a bit of a DIY feel to it, but I do like the dog art.

DogPeopleBox Tablet Sleeve – Value $45

This value is also from the information card. It seems somewhat inflated to me, but I may be used to the super cheap prices of imported cases. I don’t have a tablet (or a smartphone) but I think this is a good size for my Kindle Paperwhite (the green part folds over) so I will probably use it to protect that if I should need to travel.

dogpeoplebox-july-2016-shirt

DogPeopleBox T-Shirt – Value $21.99

Another exclusive item. And it is the right size (you can customize your box based on your shirt size, gender, and dog size during sign-up). I like getting exclusive items, although I do hope that in future months, we get some items that are not plastered with the sub box company’s logo. But, this is soft and I am in need of some new t-shirts, so it will get worn! (Value also taken from information card.)

dogpeoplebox-july-2016-fordogs

Cheddar and Banana Doggy Pretzels from 2 Little Bostons (6 count) – Value $3.95

Unfortunately these contain wheat so Nyx can’t have them. They will be passed on to another dog who will appreciate them. (While I was looking for these in the 2 Little Bostons Etsy shop OMG, look what I also found…)

Mootug – Value $14

Well, I have to hand it to DogPeopleBox for sending me a dog toy from a brand that was totally new to me. That doesn’t happen very often any more, after over a year of writing for MSA. Nyx enjoyed this and it was a good size for a large-breed dog. These are made from recycled rubber milking tubes used on dairy farms (which discard the tubes after a few weeks). Apparently these contain a unique cow scent (which thankfully is detectable by dogs and not by me!). Here are some photos of Nyx with the Mootug:

The Mootug as it is supposed to be used. I am so surprised. Nyx usually wants the handle and not the part of the toy that was *intended* for chewing.

dogpeoplebox-july-2016-nyx2

There were so many pictures like this, where Nyx just looked mean and snarling. She’s really a sweetie, I promise.

dogpeoplebox-july-2016-nyx3

Nyx gnawing on the end of the tug. She did manage to loosen a little piece of the rubber, but this toy was remarkably sturdy. She was more interested in it than she usually is for rubber toys (I didn’t even have to smear her wet food on it).

Verdict: I calculated a value of about $119.46 for the July 2016 DogPeopleBox. Even if you feel that some of the prices for the custom items are a little on the high side, for everything I could find online, the information card was spot-on as to the retail value (down to splitting the Amazon cost of a 5-pack of socks correctly). I definitely think you receive enough items in this subscription for the value to meet (even exceed) the $50 price per month. I think this was their first box and I’d say it was a pretty good effort.

It was only a matter of time before there was something like CatLadyBox for dog lovers and I am interested to see what the future holds for this subscription. Also, Nyx really liked the Mootug (I’d buy more of those) and the collar tag had me just about rolling on the floor with laughter.

I love the idea of this box but for that price of could go buy shirts, cups, toys etc from Amazon and choose what I wanted them to look like. I think the items in the first picture are great but the shirt looks very cheaply done.

Sara

I completely agree. The idea is great….something I could definitely get on board with, but the items leave a lot to be desired. The shirt is hideous.

That tag is absolutely hilarious and, in my opinion, the best item in the box by far!

You can buy the tag here. http://buybadtags.com/funny/?sort=featured&page=2

The quality looks cheap especially on the t-shirt.

Thanks for the link Melissa, but wow! They really do cost $14. I could have any of these phrases engraved on a tag at PetSmart for like $5.
