Dylan's Candy Bar ships all chocolate products with warm weather shipping protection during the summer, which is great for those of us living in hot climates.

DCB5

Unfortunately, even with the warm weather protection, several of my items arrived melted again this month. My replacements also came melted, some to the point that I couldn't even get them out of the package! (sad face) They are sending replacements again, but honestly at this point I don't have much faith that they'll come intact.

3 Chocolate Bar Gift Bag - $12.99

Milk Toffee Chocolate Bar

Something in this one tasted a bit like maple! I loved the little crunchy bits in this candy bar. Despite the fact that it was melted (which usually affects the chocolate, it tasted excellent and the chocolate was nice and smooth.

Hazelnut Chocolate Bar

This chocolate bar tasted like Nutella in the best way possible. There were no nut pieces (score one for me!), so the chocolate was smooth and delicious. I place my vote on using this one in s'mores this summer!

S'mores Chocolate Bar

Speaking of s'mores...here's a s'mores chocolate bar! I really enjoyed this one. it seemed to be the least scathed by the heat and the flavor of s'mores really did come through strongly. I tasted graham cracker and the faintest bit of vanilla marshmallow - these would be excellent used to make s'mores as well!

DCB7

Mini Bin Fillable Surprise - Milk Chocolate Covered Sea Salt Popcorn - $10.00?

This looks like it is an exclusive item for this box. As you can see, my popcorn came melted, and is covered in that white film that appears after chocolate melts and re-solidifies. That didn't seem to affect the taste though - it was still delicious.

Verdict: I am so torn on this subscription. For one, everything arrives melted. They ship three day, which is usually too long for an ice pack to stay cold, and allows plenty of time for the chocolate to sit in trucks and warehouses to melt. I'm sure I am not the only subscriber experiencing this. The second issue I see is the value: this isn't a cheap subscription, but last month the value was only $28.25, and this month wasn't better at approximately $22.99.

On the other hand, the packaging is adorable and the chocolate is excellent, making this a perfect gift subscription. With the issues that I've cited though, I don't think I can recommend this one for the summer at least!

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

40$ for a few bars of melted chocolate? Is this a joke? I can only imagine the indignation and rage that would be unleashed if PSMH delivered something like this, lol.

This box seems like such a scam to me. Each review (I think there are a couple of ladies who review this) indicate melted chocolate, small packages of gummy/hard candies and that the cost to buy those items up front from their online store is significantly cheaper than the cost of the subscription.

Furthermore, I just can’t comprehend how this company is even PROFITING from the subscription. If on average you’re having to replace at least one item (which is being conservative IMO) for every box that goes out, that can’t be good for the bottom line.

There are subscription boxes out there who make sending chocolate or items that can be ruined by heat work in summer months. As a company that does online sales of chocolate year round I would have expected this company to have a handle on it themselves. Honestly, despite the good things I read on here about the company itself, based on their handling of this subscription box alone I wouldn’t be interested in ever ordering from them.

I have to agree. This subscription box also puts me off ever ordering from them. The value just isn’t there and it is kind of insulting (in my opinion) to charge subscription box customers the same or more than the price they charge in their store. It just smacks of disloyalty.

I don’t see the point of this sub. You can just order what you want from the website, it’s not like they have packed their sub with exclusive products. They haven’t really packed it with anything lol, the value is laughable.

I’ve ordered several meal subscription boxes over the years (Blue Apron, Plated, Home Chef, Hello Fresh, etc.) and have never had melting/spoilage issues with them. Those come with fresh veggies, fruits, and raw meats. I live in Georgia too with extreme heat in the summers and yet those boxes were always intact.

They really shouldn’t even bother shipping chocolate this time of year. There’s no way it’s going to hold up. I won’t even put chocolate in my Prime Now orders because I know it will melt and that’s same-day local delivery. I am dying over that lollipop keychain, however. Adorable.

I really like the lollipop too! So cute!

This is a terrible value. Subscribers would expect, at minimum, the value to be equal to the cost of the box (if not more). And the hassle of dealing with melted product makes it not worth the effort at all. In hot months they need a different shipping method or only send things that won’t melt.

I like chocolate and candy but this sub doesn’t really offer anything that unique to justify the price point.

Rain

It costs $31.74 including shipping and ice pack to buy these items in their online store right now. The popcorn flavor isn’t available but you can buy 7 oz of a different flavor of popcorn for $9. This sub costs $40 a month.

If they shipped 2nd day and lowered the price, I might be interested in this sub. Honestly, I can’t see this sub lasting more than a year because while the product looks tasty and the packaging is cute, it’s just too expensive to keep receiving melted product. Hopefully someone from Dylan’s Candy Bar reads these comments.

I don’t understand why they started a sub just to have the value be so off for subscribers. It’s not worth the price. You’re not even coming close to breaking even on all of that melted chocolate. If the price decreased or the value increases I would be tempted in the cooler months.
