Art of Tea’s “Tea of the Month” subscription brings you a curated selection of teas.  You can choose from caffeine free tea, premium single origin tea, pyramid teabags, signature tea, or wellness tea.  This is a review of the “signature tea” subscription.

Art of Tea kindly provided this box to us at no cost. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

There was also a pretty, full-color booklet with more information about tea in general.

Cinnamon Fig Black Tea (loose, 4 oz) – Value $14

I’m not sure I’ve ever had fig in tea before, but it worked very well in this blend.  Often, cinnamon in tea will overpower the rest of the flavors.  But the fig moderated the cinnamon, added some natural sweetness, and I ended up loving the result.  (It’s a sweet, ripe fig taste – not the green fig vibe you get from some skincare products.)

Art of Tea Filter Bags (100 ct) – Value $5.95

These are unbleached and they have drawstrings to pull them closed (see below).  These are a nice, biodegradable alternative to tea infusers – and you don’t need to clean them!

Here’s a close-up of the leaves.

And here’s what the filter bag looks like in action, as well as what the tea looks like once it’s brewed.

Verdict:  I calculated a value of $19.95 for the April 2016 Art of Tea Signature Box.  I thought the tea was wonderful and I might not have taken a chance on it just by hearing the name and reading the description.  Plus the filter bags are a cool discovery.  The value was a little higher than the cost of the items (and Art of Tea does charge shipping on orders under $50 from their shop) and is a better deal with a longer subscription term.  I like most teas pretty well so this is a low-risk subscription for me.  I think it is best for people who are really into tea (we are, at my house).

Price is not bad, flavor sounds intriguing, but leaf quality does not appear to be great.
