Abuela Mami was nice enough to include directions for brewing Cuban coffee.  I happen to have a moka pot, so I was able to make this exactly like the directions (I did add creamer though)!  I really enjoyed each cup, and will make my (non-expert) notes about the flavors below.

Coffee3

La Carreta Restaurants Premium Blend Espresso - 10 oz - $8.90

This is a strong, very robust coffee.  This was the third blend I tried, and it is a bit more bitter than the Cafe Caracolillo and the El Aguila.  It still made a great cup of coffee, and I enjoyed it.

Cafe Caracolillo Espresso - $5.99

This coffee seemed quite a bit more mellow than the first one I tried (the El Aguila blend).  It is still a darkly roasted bean, and the flavor is strong still.  This one didn't have the bitterness that some dark roasts can have.  I really enjoyed this blend!  Since my first cup was a bit sweet, I cut the sugar in half for this one, and it was perfect.

Coffee5

Cafe Bustelo Espresso - $4.60

I added one teaspoon of sugar to this one and a bit of creamer.  It's probably my least favorite of the bunch, but again, this is all determined on your personal tastes in coffee!  If I had to guess, I would guess that this roast is a bit lighter than the others, but still definitely has a bite to it!  It's very smooth, and it will definitely be used up!

Cafe El Aguila Espresso - $6.92

This was the first coffee I made, Cuban style.  This is a very strong, richly bodied coffee when made as instructed in a moka pot.  I added the full 4 teaspoons of sugar, and then added creamer.  My creamer is sweetened, so next time I would add less sugar to begin with.  Since this coffee is very strong (and moka pot coffee is even more concentrated), I added quite a bit of creamer, and it barely lightened my coffee.  It was good, don't get me wrong, but expect strong coffee from this!  I do tend to prefer a darker roast, so this is perfect for my preferences.

Verdict:  The value of this box is pretty much on par with how much it costs - I came up with $26.41 for all four of the bricks of espresso.  All of the coffee blends are darker roasts, with strong, robust flavors.  I think if you enjoy that sort of roast, you will enjoy this box immensely.  If you are not a fan of that sort of coffee, you may be disappointed in this box.  They recommend brewing this in a standard coffee pot, as well as the moka pot, which I didn't try, but it would make for a less concentrated cup.  I generally use my french press or moka pot since I'm the only coffee drinker in the house, and I can't finish a pot by myself.  If you can't finish the entire moka pot in one setting (like me), once you let it cool it is great for making iced coffee!

One thing to note is that the expiration dates on these bricks is pretty far out, so if you can't drink all of it in a month, it will stay fresh for a while.

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

I love cafe Bustelo, I think it has a good representation of what some good Caribbean coffee takes like, at least to me.
