Treat Yourself Box Subscription Box Review October 2015 - 2

The Box: Treat Yourself Box

The Cost: $28.00 a month

Ships to: U.S. for free, Canada for $10.00, and Internationally for $15.00

The Products: Trendy home decor items, handmade goodies, and yummy treats, with a focus on small women-owned businesses.

My Treat Yourself Box came in a bubblegum pink envelope this month. I follow one of the curators on Instagram on three of her pages: Live Sweet Photography, Pearls Pigtales, and Treat Yourself Box. Her posts always bring a bit of whimsy and smiles to my day! Pearl, her teacup pig, is so adorable - the way she interacts with the family really shows that they love her!

This box is exactly what I would have expected from a box that Lindsay curates: everything is beyond adorable, pastel, and happy! I do wish though, that there were an info card included - it would make estimating the monetary value a lot easier!

Christina Williams Donut Tote - $12.00

This bag is really sturdy! It is made out of a heavyweight canvas, and the straps are quite log for a tote. The illustration is absolutely adorable and fitting for me - I love strawberry frosted donuts. I'm starting to get quite the collection! They're great for groceries, hauling all the stuff that apparently I can't live without during the day, and as reusable gift bags.

Electric City Roasters - Ground Coffee - $6.75?

I'm guessing on this item for value, because I don't know what blend the coffee was. I also completely forgot to weigh it prior to using it. The coffee was great! I am not a coffee expert, so I can't give comments on the notes, boldness, etc. I just drink the stuff!

Bigelow English Breakfast Tea - $0.25

I enjoy English Breakfast Tea lattes so I was excited to get this in my package! Unfortunately, I made it for myself and then had an emergency this morning so it sat untouched. Sad face. It was a great reminder to go buy some English Breakfast tea for the house though, and Bigelow is usually the brand I go for!

Harney & Sons Organic Herbal Peppermint tea - $0.50

Peppermint tea isn't my go to tea - I prefer black teas over herbal any day. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that black tea is caffeinated, and I prefer my days to vibrate with caffeine! This will definitely be used though - with winter coming it is inevitable that I will get a cold and need some herbal tea!

Treat Yourself Insulated Coffee Mug - $15.00?

I couldn't find this mug for sale anywhere online, so I am assuming it was an exclusive for this box. I used this with the Electric City coffee I brewed this weekend, and it was really handy. I normally use the glass travel mugs from Starbucks, and forgot how convenient a plastic one is. I will be using this for sure.

Donut Forget Tear off pad - $6.00?

I couldn't find this for sale online either - again probably an exclusive for the box. This is a very cute little tear off pad that I plan to use at work!

Donut hairties - $3.00

These are super cute, but they never work for my hair. I'll be passing them along to a friend!

Whisky, Ink, and Lace Cinnamon Lip Plumper - $5.00

This is an old school type roll on lip plumper. I totally remember using roll on lip glosses in the 90's and early 2000's. I think this is a nice, natural alternative to a lip plumper. I'm not really concerned about plumping my lips (they're thin, always been thin, always will be thin), so I might pass this along to a friend.

Donut Print - $7.00?

The Verdict: The bottom line is that I love the curation of this box. I am a little conflicted about the claimed $60 value of the box. Do I think the box is worth the cost? Yes, I do - if this is your style. I think the value claims should be backed up with an insert on the items themselves and the businesses producing the items. I would love to know more about the small woman-led businesses that they use! I don't really even feel comfortable totaling my estimates because I think this box may be more about the curation than the value.

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

These are all really cute. But from the pictures, it all looks like low quality stuff you’d find at Walmart in a youth or party section. I’d say at most the value of all the items is more like $40.

So the almost $30 price tag is just too high & risky, imo.

Cutesy box. Liked everything you got. $28 a month for cute randomness is a bit steep imo.

Heyhey I would be glad to mail them to you. Email me at Bekkileigh at gmail dot com and I’ll get them out to you! I won’t use them.

Sue

I put a link to an Etsy shop that will sell you a whole roll of the elastic used to make those hair ties. It’s $4.50 plus shipping (so $6.44 for me total). There’s also other shops that sell them already made. Hope your little girl loves them and your family is in my thoughts for a swift recovery.
