The first thing I saw when I opened the box is that Your Secret Admirer is using a portion of their proceeds to fund care packages to orphans in the Philippines.
I like that Your Secret Admirer Box has gone back to featuring information about some of the local and independent artisans whose products they feature in the box. It’s always interesting to hear about the people who made the products.
This month’s theme is a tribute to Coco Chanel!
Your Secret Admirer Box always has such awesome, attractive packaging. A lot of packing material, yes, but it looks nice.
Terra Firma Cosmetics Multitasking Mineral Powder for Eyes in Black Sea – Value $12.99
e.l.f. Eyeshadow Brush – Value $1
This is a loose mineral eyeshadow in a bit of a bold color for me (swatch below). It seemed buildable, though, so maybe I can just start with a little and go from there.
I have over 200 makeup brushes (no lie) but this one will still get used. I don’t like to wash them and with so many, I can go for a long time without having to do so – I just grab new ones. Plus, I could be totally lazy and swatch the eyeshadow while I was taking photos without getting up!
In general, I notice Your Secret Admirer Box includes accessories to help you get the most out of your items. So, a brush to go with eyeshadow. In past boxes, a tea light came with a tea light holder and a tea infuser came with some loose tea. I like thoughtful touches like that.
Flask with Coco Chanel Quote – Value $20 (?)
I couldn’t find this exact flask anywhere online, so I’m basing the price off of other custom flasks I found. In addition to being a Coco Chanel tribute, this box has a 1920s vibe to me, and the flask totally fits. I’m not much of a drinker but this, paired with a bottle of liquor, should be quite popular at our office White Elephant gift exchange this year.
Deck of Playing Cards – Value $5 (?)
This is another item I couldn’t find online, so I just picked a value reflective of similar items I found online. This is a nice little addition to round out the value of the box, and the artwork is totally appropriate for the box!
Stephanie Johnson Mirror – Value $24
I love the Stephanie Johnson mirror that came with the Birchbox Modern Mermaid Limited Edition box, but I seem to have misplaced that in a recent move. So this came at a good time.
Kukuruza Popcorn in Truffle Fromage Porcini – Value $5
This was great. It disappeared in no time flat! The only thing that concerned me a little was the lack of ingredients list or nutrition information on the package or the company website. This could be important for people with allergies or those wishing to avoid certain ingredients.
Here’s a swatch of the eyeshadow.
Verdict: I calculated a value of about $73 this month for the Your Secret Admirer box. This is one of the best values I’ve seen from them, and it’s still good even if my estimates for some items are off. Plus, they offer a lot of promos and coupons.
Overall, I think this was a fun box and a nice way to treat yourself (or a friend). Plus, Your Secret Admirer did a wonderful job sticking to the theme this month. Almost every single item had something to do with Coco Chanel (herself a female entrepreneur, like the artisans in this box) or the time in which she lived. While not every item may be perfect for me, I can think of a lot of potential gifting occasions. And I love the chance to see what female entrepreneurs are up to these days – there’s a lot more diversity in their product offerings than I had ever realized.
