Spork Pack Subscription Box Review & Coupon - March 2015 Rice Rollers

Bamboo Lane Crunchy Rice Rollers- 3.5 oz, value $6.99

Cosomi Salty Sweet Cookie Cracker- value $1.60

At first, I wasn’t sure what to make of these Rice Rollers! They looked like a cross between a rice cake and a rice crispy treat, but they tasted like a less-sweet version of honey smacks. They were pretty fun to eat and (at only 45 calories per roller) a great snack to have on hand.

The Salty Sweet Cookie Crackers were by far my favorite discovery in the box. They were very thin and crisp, and I liked the balance of salty and sweet. They’re made with sesame seeds (which gives them a nutty flavor) and covered in finely ground sugar. They were great on their own, but I think these would also be great with coffee or even served with wine and cheese.

Spork Pack Subscription Box Review & Coupon - March 2015 JustCook

Amki Sesame Snaps- 1.25 oz, value $.50

Donsuemor French Almond Cake- value $.85

Just Cook No. 19 Salmon Blend - 3.2 oz, value $8.50

This was my first time trying sesame snaps, and I really liked them. They were sweet, crunchy, and reminded me of sesame brittle.

I had some difficulty figuring out exactly what the Almond Cake was because the only information printed on the packaging was the brand name. This is an example of when an informational card comes in handy! (FYI- it appears that SporkPack used to include a card with their shipments, but I did not receive one in my box. I’m not sure if mine was left out by mistake or if they no longer include them.) The cake itself was pretty tasty. It had a nice almond flavor, and I liked how the soft cake was topped with crunchy almond slices.

I’ve tried Just Cook spice blends before and really liked them. Blend No. 19 for salmon is a Creole-inspired mix of paprika, lemon, coriander, cumin, and bay. I’ve never used a spice rub on salmon before, so I’m excited to give this a try.

Spork Pack Subscription Box Review & Coupon - March 2015 Infuser

OGGI Stainless Steel Spring Loaded Tea Infuser- value $8.95

I really like the design of this tea infuser. The button at the top is spring-loaded and pushing down on it opens the tea compartment at the bottom of the wand. I drink loose-leaf tea pretty regularly, so this will get a lot of use.

Spork Pack Subscription Box Review & Coupon - March 2015 Ceramic

Kyoto Ceramic Paring Knife and Peeler - value $12.50?

I’m always happy to receive practical kitchen tools, and I’m excited about this ceramic set. I couldn’t find this exact set for sale online, but based on the quality and size I’d estimate the value to be somewhere in the range of $10 to $15. I’ve used ceramic knives before, but this is my first ceramic vegetable peeler. I tried it on an apple, and I think I’m really going to like it. Ceramic knives (and peelers) rank higher on the Mohs Scale of Mineral Harness than traditional hardened steel knives, which means they stay sharper longer and have to be sharpened less frequently. Since I rarely (read: never) sharpen my knives, these are a great addition to my kitchen.

Verdict: I really like the concept of SporkPack. I love discovering new treats in subscription boxes, but I also think it’s great to discover new cooking tools and kitchen gadgets. I thought the treats in the box were tasty, and I’ll use both the tea infuser and knife set. My only concern with the products is that some of the food items weren’t labeled with product or nutritional information (as if they were taken out of a larger, bulk pack of individually wrapped snacks). I wouldn’t really have a problem with this if SporkPack included a card to help identify what the products were, but that was not the case. Additionally, it appears that some of the items I received (the Rice Rollers and Tea Infuser) were also in the October 2014 box. I’m a new subscriber, so it seems possible that I’ve received a “best of” box (like some GlossyBox subscribers received last month). If that’s the case, then other subscribers likely received boxes that were different from mine. As this is my first box, I don’t really mind getting tools and snacks that were featured in past boxes, but it’s something to be aware of if you’re interested in subscribing. As for value, SporkPack claims that boxes will include 4-8 items and have an average value over $40. According to my valuations, this box comes in right at $40.

Have you tried SporkPack? What did you think?

This company has been showing signs of stress for a while. Among other things, it looks like their Facebook page is barely being maintained…a bad sign. Consider carefully before signing up for a multi-month subscription.

I received the same items with the exception of the tea infuser and the rice snacks. I thought it was a very poor value.

I had them a few months back and cancelled as well. I got there first 3 boxes they sent out. All the tools break and the food is alright. I still have my tiny japanese smiles drainer. The idea of the box is great but the execution could use some work.

I had to do a DOUBLE TAKE!

Holy Moly! Many of these items are repeats! i got the tea infuser and the rice cracker roles in a previous box! The sesame snaps are sold at costco. YIKES! This is a newish sub service…and this box makes me think they are heading out the door…

Also, the rice crackers are delicious.

Last comment I promise. My cookie crackers have a different packaging than yours, I was googling them and found the packaging like mine is from 2013. They were given away in Goodies Co boxes from August 2013. There’s absolutely no nutritional information, ingredients or expiration date. Even if I am eating 2 yr old cookie crackers, they’re pretty good. I also noticed my 180 snack package is old too, the packaging on their website is new and different. But it has an expiration date, and they’re still good. I’m a bit put off by the old snacks and random things thrown in a box. I wouldn’t resub to this box.

I got my last box of a 3 month deal and canceled immediately. I got a whisk that I received in my January box, which I got two of then, only one now. I got a plastic peeler, with maybe a ceramic blade? It’s pink and looks like it has a grater on the handle. I got the same ceramic knife though. I only got 4 snacks in my box and no info card, I only got an info card in my January box but not February or March. I want to love this sub, but it seems like a bunch of random things thrown in a box. My snacks were a package of Beef Jerky, a package of blueberry pomegranate trail mix crunch from 180, the same almond cake and cookie cracker.

I just ate the little almond cake, it was delicious!

My box was the same except that I did not receive the tea infuser or rice rollers in mine, which makes mine a much lower value…

I like the box, but when I tried to EXTEND my subscription to the 6 month after they renewed me for the 3 month…they haven’t responded to my emails. Bad customer service = I will have to cancel my subscription instead.

I didn’t receive the tea infuser or rice rollers, either. I did get a bag of Lara’s Renola (Chai flavored), though. I think I’m happier with the granola than I would have been with the rice rollers. This is the last box of my three month subscription and I won’t be renewing. Some of the tools I’ve gotten have been pretty cool, but the food has been really disappointing. There also seems to be an underlying Asian theme to a lot of the snacks they send out, which I wish I would have known when I subscribed.

I didn’t receive the tea infuser or rice rollers in mine. the rice rollers are sold as a 4 pack at costco for $7. the amazon price is crazy inflated.

Lindsey

Thanks for the pricing info on the rice rollers, brandy@hello! It’s good to know they’re available for less at Costco.

Just curious- what did you receive instead of the rice rollers and tea infuser?

Brandy@hello
