Farm to People Tasting Box Subscription Review – Feb 2015 Pecans

Tumbador Holey Molé Chocolate – 2.1 oz, value: $3.33

Molly & Me Pecans All Natural Sweet Heat Pecans – 7 oz, value: $9.33

This dark chocolate bar has toasted almonds and toffee bits, and molé. This chocolate has a really nice texture to it, and the heat is more of an aftertaste and isn’t too intense.

I didn’t expect to be a fan of these sweet and spicy almonds, but I actually like them alright! They’re sweet, have a great crunchy texture, and the spice feels balanced. I probably wouldn’t have tried these if they weren’t featured in a box, but I definitely like them more than I expected!

Farm to People Tasting Box Subscription Review – Feb 2015 Caramel

Empire Mayonnaise Sriracha Mayonnaise – 4 oz, value: $7.50

Fat Toad Farm Farmstead Goat’s Milk Salted Bourbon Caramel – 2 oz, value: $3.50

This mayonnaise sounds like a great idea! I don’t personally love sriracha but I know a lot of people do, and having it in mayo form sounds like it’d make great additions to recipes or sandwiches, or even with French fries (as a dip). I also love that it’s made with cage-free eggs and non-GMO canola oil.

After reading about Fat Toad Farm’s process for making their goat’s milk caramel, I was really excited to taste this caramel. It’s definitely not too sweet, like they advertise, but unfortunately I’m not a fan of the boozy taste the bourbon adds. I’ll be passing this along to a friend, though.

Farm to People Tasting Box Subscription Review – Feb 2015 Jam

2 Armadillos Spicy Cayenne Crispy Chickpeas – 3 oz, value: $3.95

The Jam Stand Raspberry Jalapeño Jam – 8 oz, value: $10

Homesweet Homegrown Orange Crush Sauce – 5 oz, value: $6

These chickpeas are crunchy, and the flavor from the cayenne and chili powder is really good. They’re definitely spicy, though!

My mom loves crackers with cream cheese and jalapeño jam. While I’ve never been brave enough to try a spicy jam yet myself, this raspberry and jalapeño jam sounded balanced enough for me to brave a taste. I have to say that I’m a fan! This really isn’t spicy exactly, but it tastes like a not-too-sweet raspberry flavor.

We don’t really use hot sauce in our house, so this Orange Crush sauce will be passed along or swapped. It sounds interesting, though – it’s made with orange habaneros, carrots, apple cider vinegar, and orange juice. They also used chia seeds as a natural thickener and preservative!

Verdict: I’m not generally one for spicy foods so I wasn’t sure how I would feel about the February Farm to People box. Ultimately, though, I’m alright with it – I got to try new things and I enjoyed learning about the different companies. As far as value goes, everything adds up to $43.61, which doesn’t quite break even with the value of the box. I wish there were a little more value, or at least a couple items I really fell in love with, but there really wasn’t. The theme of featuring spicy foods is a pretty good idea but I know that it could also be a little polarizing – I think people tend to either love spicy foods or hate them. Fortunately, there are a couple items in this box I like okay so it’s ultimately not a complete loss for me.

I have a very negative impression of Farm to People but for different reasons.

Given a gift certificate and during the process of getting the product (where shipping was not included) I saw the fact the tasting boxes were part of a subscription. There were also points where there was the question if this was received as a gift. I checked the box and thought that was all required. Sure this is a subscription but they know I am redeeming a gift coupon and should not have to go through hoops to order then cancel the obligatory subscription.

Sell a gift coupon through Groupon at 50% off then through an obscure process charge unaware customers for list price shipments. Bad way to do business.

Also my wife cannot eat tomatoes and the only significant product was a tomato sauce. Nowhere can one identify what is being sent. Coffee chocolate bar included but don’t drink coffee. Two one ounce spices are very good. Not worth $33

Sweet and spicy almonds? Clearly says pecans!! This writer doesn’t know her nuts from her nuts. Box sounds great and so glad to learn about Farm To People and these small companies!

...

yeah, no offense but just doesn’t seem to be a good fit for this reviewer – more than the items themselves. :/ I’m definitely not a foodie – but the feedback descriptions seemed like it would be better suited for someone else.. “I like it okay”

We love trying new small batch and organic food items. This box is right up our alley. I appreciate that we haven’t tried any of the’s brands, so I think the curation is very interesting. The caramel sauce reminds me of the fudge sauce in this month’s little lace box, I’m curious if it’s as delicious as that one was.

Yum! I make my own siracha mayo its just a cup of mayo, a few tbsps of siracha (depending on how spicy u want it), a squeeze of lemon juice, and a pinch of sugar. Its delicious on everything from burgers, sandwiches, crab cakes, salmon burgers, french fries, chicken, the list goes on and on. So easy to play around with and seriously amazing.

I make the same sriracha mayo, except instead of sugar, I add minced garlic. Love making sriracha cheesburgers with that sauce!
