Luxury Barber Subscription Box Review - January 2015 Box

The Luxury Barber Box is a monthly subscription, created to allow men to gain exposure to the largest variety of grooming products possible. Their box allows you to experiment with new scents and formulas to figure out what matches your preferences. Additionally, every subscription plan allows you a percentage-off site discount to order full-size products.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Luxury Barber Subscription Box Review - January 2015 First Look

Luxury Barber Subscription Box Review - January 2015 Info

This is the info card included in the box. I like how much detail they offer for each item. The card also includes the cost for full-size orders of the items.

Luxury Barber Subscription Box Review - January 2015 Bold

Bold For Men Dry Shave Gel - . 34 oz, value: $1.43

Luxury Barber Flushable Towelettes – 10 pack

This dry shave gel is a clear gel designed to be used without water. Letting it sit for 30 seconds pre-shave helps to soften the hair and prepare for a better shave.

These towelettes are not listed on the info card, and they make an 11th item to the box – I think they’re a bonus item.

Luxury Barber Subscription Box Review - January 2015 InsideI wanted to show that, unfortunately, one of the towelettes in my box was open. It’s not a huge deal to me, but I’d make sure to check each towelette before use for sanitary reasons.

Luxury Barber Subscription Box Review - January 2015 Soap

Stirling Soap Company Ozark Mountain Shave Soap – value: $2?

Manly Man Body Bar Soap- Crisp Bay Rum – value: $2?

Neither of these soap samples have weights listed, so I’m guessing a bit at their value, based on their full-size costs. I actually think that both of these soaps smell really nice – especially the Soapy Bathman one.

Luxury Barber Subscription Box Review - January 2015 Game Day

Lord Blades 10 Pack - $4

Game Day Aftershave Soothing Balm - .5 fl oz, value: $7.28

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion - .17 oz, value: $6.56

No one in my family uses razors that use these blades – these will be swapped or passed along to a friend.

Dr. Brandt is a really well-known and high-end skincare company. I was excited to see this brand in the box! The microdermabrasion skin exfoliant is a popular item, too. I’m looking forward to trying it. I’m generally not a fan of foil samples, but considering that this small amount is still worth $6.56, I’m okay with it.

Luxury Barber Subscription Box Review - January 2015 Hair Scalp

Revivogen Pro Conditioner – 2 fl oz, value: $4.17

Regenepure DR – 4 fl oz, value: $15?

I think hair treatments are a really great inclusion in this box. They tend to be costly, and it’s great to try something like that out before committing to a full-size. This one, specifically, is for thinning hair.

Luxury Barber Subscription Box Review - January 2015 Baxter

Stirling Orange Pre-Shave Oil – 1 oz, value: $9

Baxter Super Close Shave Formula – .5 fl oz, value: $1.13

This pre-shave oil helps relieve irritation and protect against nicks and cuts.

The Baxter shave formula also helps to create a protective barrier between skin and razor, and helps to moisturize even after shaving.

Verdict: All in all, I’m really happy with this Luxury Barber Box. I like the variety of products, as well as the packaging of the box and portions of most of the samples. I was also happy with a lot of the brands and value to this box. Everything adds up to ~$52.57!

What do you think about the Luxury Barber Box?

We subscribed to this box but cancelled it after 3 months due to the repetition of products from month to month. I think that almost everything included in our 3rd box had also appeared in one of our first 2 boxes, which made it seem like there’s not that much variety overall.

This box was different than what was actually sent out in LB January 2015 Box to subscribers. I have been looking at this box for awhile for a possible gift and the January 2015 included either a safety razor or shavette in addition to other the products. This box seems to be a mish-mash of products from the January box and some from their older boxes. It doesn’t even include the January product from the brand of the month “Soap Commander.” I really dislike it when companies send boxes to reviewers that are different from what is actually sent, especially when the January box was so much better than what was sent to MSA. Here was what was included in the original mailings:

DE razor or Shavette
Soap commander integrity aftershave balm (full size)
billy jealousy cashmere coat conditioner
billy jealousy fuzzy logic shampoo
billy jealously liquid sand facial cleanser
baxter of CA hard pomade
Stirling tea tree soap
Stirling soap pre-shave orange oil
WSP rustic shaving soap
dr brandt pores no more
shark DE razor blades

You can see these items by goggling other unboxings for the January box or just looking at the twitter and instagram posts.

Hi, I apologize for the confusion. This was actually the December box, not the January box. We reached out to MSA and let them know after this post went live. Thank you! – BC | [email protected]

Thanks for letting us know. I’m going to reach out to Luxury Barber to find out what happened. The one request we make for anyone who sends us a box to review is that it has to be the same box a paying customer would receive. Reviewing anything else isn’t useful and can mislead readers and really frustrates me! So sorry about this!

Thanks Liz. I know you all try to review the most authentic consumer experience possible.

Betsy

Which were the 2 full sized items?

Betsy –
I’m sorry – I think there’s a typo under “the products”! It’s supposed to read “including a full-size product, from various grooming categories, showcasing their Brand of the Month.” (We’ll get this fixed). In this box, the full-size item was the Stirling Orange pre-shave oil. I think the wipes technically count as a full-size item but as the review says, they weren’t listed on the card so I think they’re a bonus.

Hope that helps!

I love this box! I would give it as a one-time subscription for my dad or husband, but not as a monthly sub, since they don’t think the subs are as cool as I do.

I remember my dad using a shaving soap and a straight razor. But to do that you need a true shaving brush for the soap. I think that would have been a better inclusion in this box considering the first two of the three are in it.

This seems like a nice box. I don’t think my hubby would go for a $30/month shaving box, though.
